Thank you so much Preach for this video. Before watching this vid I was as down in the slums of subpar DPS and barely pulling my weight on my mage. Watched this yesterday though and I went from the bottom to the top! Was like a 300-400k DPS swing for me. I may be a filthy casual, but it's really nice being able to put out some decent numbers to support my team :) (Plus I got the shards of the Exodar last night and quite happy about that as well).
+Preach Flurrying after ebonbolt is actually the better way to rotate if I remember correctly, given that because flurry reaches the target before the ebonbolt your ebonbolt benefits from the debuff flurry applies. Maybe they changed this I don't know.
Was thinking the same thing. By keeping your distance from the boss and flurrying right after Ebonbolt it shatters the ebonbolt pretty much guaranteeing the crit.
Ethan Prine yes. The priority when casting ebonbolt is ebonbolt-flurry-ice lance. Make sure you're 10+ yards away when casting ebon bolt. The big take-away in peach's vid is changing your lag tolerance for double ice lance.
If you spam flurry while casting ebonbolt you'll be able to cast away your current flurry before you overlap it with your second proc gained from ebonbolt.
Statistically via SIMS, the standard if you have BrainFreeze and a FoF proc'd from one Frostbolt cast and you're chaining frostbolts then you just keep going and you eat the IL charge instead of the BF. It could be different now with our new IL trait in our empowered weapon but that was how it was in 7.1.5
as has been pointed out, you understate the importance of shattering ebonbolts. also i think you underrepresent the value of frozen touch. in fights with low secondary target uptime, its way better than splitting even if you miss out on some cleave, because as you say yourself when we play lonely winter our icy veins uptime is very rng reliant, and frozen touch stabilises this a lot. you should also in my opinion mention that on lower gear levels, mirror image is actually pretty good, incanter only starts to really outscale it from like 880 upwards in my experience.
has anyone else noticed that frozen orb is broken since the patch?... it either doesn't travel to the target, or it passes through the mobs and disappears, 😒
I've been doing good with BC MI FT UM (altought I'm looking at AG now) TV, flurry does over 900k dmg and I proc them left and right and you can use the extra flurries to keep up icy veins longer with TV.
as others have said preach, you can immediately follow Ebonbolt with the flurry proc that it gives to shatter the Ebonbolt. This is the reason for the moving back out again after the double IL, as you need to be greater than 15 yards from the boss to achieve this. The opener is therefore Ebonbolt precast>IV while in flight, while pressing flurry. It is possible to get the EB to benefit from shatter and Chilled to the Core at the same time. Then you follow the flurry as usualy with an IL: :)
Hey preach I just wanted to think you for such a great video. I learned a lot keep up the good work sir ,you always make great videos ! See you next time -Xan
I have a question. @5:08 you cast ebonbolt then frostbolt then flurry followed by an ice lance. But afaik winter's chill from flurry treats ALL spells as if the target where frozen and flurry's speed is higher than that of ebonbolt, applying winter's chill just before ebonbolt hits the raget. Hence wouldn't it make more sence to ebonbolt > flurry > ice lance since in that case your ebenobolt would crit because of winter's chill?
love it! are you going to be putting out more class guides for all of them like you did in previous expansions? I'd love to get some extra tips on my MW in 7.2.
Damn! Your video capture looks so good. Silky smooth frames. What gear do you use nowadays. I will look but if you haven't a video on the newest gear your use I would really enjoy seeing your setup :) thanks for the great vids and keep them coming!
ice floes is now a dead talent, you need shimmer in order to make double lance and ebonshatter work, furthermore, 33% crit shattercap is the minimum, crit still holds value after this threshold due to the weapon trait which reduces the remaining cooldown on icy veins every time you get a crit strike with frostbolt, splitting ice is only used on cleave fights or M+, every other time you take frozen touch, as far as the first talent row is concerned, it depends on gear level before you can swap to lonely winter, until you have a specific gear threshold you shoul use bone chilling and make use of water jet for more reliable FoF generation at lower gear levels.
please, tell me exactly where i was inaccurate? lets analyse it in blocks: ice floes is a dead talent, it is not needed due to various mechanics in the nighthold and gear effects. shimmer is needed to make double lancing still work, and is needed to ebonshatter due to how the spells work. shattercap is the minimum amount of crit you wanna get before focusing on other stats, but after shattercap crit still holds value due to the weapon trait (part of the power trait trifecta for frost). splitting ice is only use on cleave fights where it is useful to do so, every other instance you take frozen touch, i feel this is pretty self explanatory. and lonely winter is only viable at higher gear levels with various factors lining up, if you aren't at that point, bone chilling is always the better option. so once again i ask, where was i wrong/inaccurate?
I've been runnnig frost bomb, whenever I am about to frozen orb or dump 2+ figers of frost procs. it seems to pull out the deeps. anybody else finding this?
It was better before 7.1.5 when Ebonbolt triggered Fingers of Frost instead of Brain Freeze, now it's too unreliable. Even before 7.1.5 I'm not sure what was better.
OOOh. Nice one thanks. I was playing Mistweaver before 7.2. Just went back onto my mage. Overall I gotta say I like how frost is feeling. Reminds me of cataclysm mage. But with less hard-casting. Gonna be great in Arena and BG. I shifted over to enchanter's flow last night.. I prefer the effect of shattering frost bombs, but single target DPS did seem to increase. So I guess I know what I'll be playing. It can only get better as I get more and crit.
while important you dont really have a lot of control over your fof like in 7.1 so its just a lot easier to not worry about it and use your ice lances right when you get them to keep your buff up
Isn't it counterintuitive as hell in a situation where you have a flurry and FoF proc to go icelance -> frostbolt -> flurry ->icelance? Considering frostbolt procs FoF, there is a chance that the frostbolt procs FoF, meaning that you munch a FoF proc anyways. It makes way more sense to fire the icelance, go straight into flurry+icelance and then continue casting frostbolt. That way if you proc FoF, you get 3 icelances instead of 2.
Preach are you doing this kind of guides for all classes? I love having alts, on my main I won't need these guides but doing theorycraft alone for an alter is annoying :C.
Hello Preach. You talk about Incanter's Flow and timing your Ice lances more towards the 5 stack but you completely forgot about the very important Chain Reaction stack. That should be mentioned during the FB>Flurry>Ice Lance combo as that is a guaranteed refresh of the buff. Other than that, good job and don't forget to triple ice lance with shimmer. :)
Very helpful guideI Regarding our weapon, normally we should do ilvl because it's most important? I have BIS 880 frost relic that reduces reduction of IV and a 890 frost relic that increases ff by 25 %. FF has become more used in my dps rotation. I just got the 890 relic to reduce IV CD. Do you think I should just use replace the 880 to 890 reduction in IV or should I replace the 890 ff 25% for the reduction in IV?
oh no preach D: arent you suppose to fire the brain freeze proc off immediately with ebonbolt so ebonbolt gets the benefit of shatter? because ebonbolt has a slower travel time than flurry the flurry will hit first which makes the ebonbolt hit inside the winters chill window
Mate, why would the travel distance of ice floes matter, you have it so you don't have to cancel your casts when stepping out of the fire, you can activate it while you are casting a spell, it is off GBC.
Hey thanks for the updated guide. 1 Question: Can you link your weakaura(or post string) for frost also with the tracking of the trinkets. Many thanks in advance man. HF GL
Nice guide. What is the current opinion about Blizzard (without legendary belt) cast on single target with our new trait "Freezing Rain"? Still not worth it? Even if I take "Artic Gale" talent over "Unstable Magic"? More Frozen Orb = more Ice Lances and we only loose one GCD for it. So thoughts everyone?
Didn't know about the custom lag tolerance bit. I will have to play around with that when I get on later today. By the way, Preach, do you know where the threshold between LW being better than BC lies? I don't think I have seen anything saying where that threshold is.
how can you take the new artifact? because i dont have the 2 tree open!! i have stopped for 7 months and i missed a lot !! I put all my artifact power on my Spellbone passive is this wrong because i didnt know that we had a second tree
Does holding on to the Flurry procs really accomplish anything? Whether you go Frostbolt -> Flurry Proc -> Flurry + Ice lance or Frostbolt -> flurry proc (dont use it yet) -> frostbolt -> flurry + Ice Lance accomplishes the same thing no? you're not getting less frostbolts in
If anything, I feel that saving them is TERRIBLE, if you save the flurry proc, and you go frostbolt, then instant flurry after, you have a chance you get a Fingers of Frost, which would be consumed by the Flurry Ice Lance that would get the damage increase from flurry anyway.
Should i always wait for ice lance to proc or use em after flurry straight away? I've always used to do Ebonbolt,Icy Viens, Flurry,Ice lance my procs, then within icy viens use frost bolt to build up procs for ice lance and flurry but i don't get much procs on ice lance if i normally just did flurry, ice lance, frostbolt *repeat*
im confused. does preach even know flurry travels faster than frostbolt, so if you stand more than 20 away, you empower your frostbolt by shooting flurry behind it.
Considering the fact that all your weapons have been pushed back to 35, plus bad luck protection now working for every spec on its own which means it's much easier to get legos for your offspec, would this be considered the best time to reroll specs? I'm considering rerolling from windwalker to brewmaster but I just want to make sure of the validity of my statement.
Best mage guide ever!!!!
Everything is not just shown but explained in a very clear and detailed way.
Thank you so much Preach for this video. Before watching this vid I was as down in the slums of subpar DPS and barely pulling my weight on my mage. Wonderful guide - this helped so much. I appreciate you taking the time to do this - thank you!
excellent guides as always preacher :D been trying to get into a mage for a while and im willing to give frost a chance after watching this
Cheers for the guide mate! Looking forward for that Glacial spike build, really interested in how it'd work!
Thank you Preach because of this vid I started playing frost and I never had so much fun in legion
Did anyone back up the stat scaling vid? I want to see it, no matter if its correct or not.
the scaling issue was hotfixed.. thankfully. not sure why you would want to watch a video about an issue that is now a non-issue
+Preach Flurrying after ebonbolt is actually the better way to rotate if I remember correctly, given that because flurry reaches the target before the ebonbolt your ebonbolt benefits from the debuff flurry applies. Maybe they changed this I don't know.
Hmm arent you meant to shatter ebonbolt with the flurry you get?
Was thinking the same thing. By keeping your distance from the boss and flurrying right after Ebonbolt it shatters the ebonbolt pretty much guaranteeing the crit.
Yes. Surprisingly, Preach's info tends to be fairly inaccurate from time to time, which sucks because I really enjoy his videos
Yeah you are definitely suppose to Flurry+Ebonbolt.
Ethan Prine yes. The priority when casting ebonbolt is ebonbolt-flurry-ice lance. Make sure you're 10+ yards away when casting ebon bolt.
The big take-away in peach's vid is changing your lag tolerance for double ice lance.
If you spam flurry while casting ebonbolt you'll be able to cast away your current flurry before you overlap it with your second proc gained from ebonbolt.
hey can you do a guide for arcane mage in 7.2 please?
switch to frost, I did that and I'm super happy!
Statistically via SIMS, the standard if you have BrainFreeze and a FoF proc'd from one Frostbolt cast and you're chaining frostbolts then you just keep going and you eat the IL charge instead of the BF. It could be different now with our new IL trait in our empowered weapon but that was how it was in 7.1.5
can i get your frost weak auras plz
this guide is all I wanted to know, ty for the work :D
If you stand at a certain range long enough you can even shatter a glacial spike but depends on your haste to lower the GCD.
as has been pointed out, you understate the importance of shattering ebonbolts. also i think you underrepresent the value of frozen touch. in fights with low secondary target uptime, its way better than splitting even if you miss out on some cleave, because as you say yourself when we play lonely winter our icy veins uptime is very rng reliant, and frozen touch stabilises this a lot. you should also in my opinion mention that on lower gear levels, mirror image is actually pretty good, incanter only starts to really outscale it from like 880 upwards in my experience.
Well that was just amazing, thanks preach!
has anyone else noticed that frozen orb is broken since the patch?... it either doesn't travel to the target, or it passes through the mobs and disappears, 😒
Any chance you can UL your weak auras and elv UI profiles plz pal.
I've been doing good with BC MI FT UM (altought I'm looking at AG now) TV, flurry does over 900k dmg and I proc them left and right and you can use the extra flurries to keep up icy veins longer with TV.

Oh Mike...I'm still amazed you chose a ranged class over a meele for Legion. Sure looks nice an artifact weapon that sits of your back the whole time!
God damn literally every guide preach makes makes me wanna reroll to whatever the hell he's talking about
You can shatter Ebonbolt by using the flurry proc right after. The intended mechanic is: Ebon > Flurry > Ice lance.
You should be using ebonbolt and pressing flurry right before it finishes casting and it will shatter your ebonbolt and an ice lance
Thanks for this vid, turns out I was dumping my flurry without icelance, thanks for that!
Might wanna reconsider using the legendary chest over fire bracers. Gives way higher intellect which is your best stat and its effect is pretty nice.
the black bit red bit at 20:40 is actually an addon called quartz
Been waiting for you to make the switch, got my gloves last week. All good.
This helped me alot! thanks for the video.
As someone who leveled frost and became fire, I prefer fire for its burst air potential and just overall rotation
Super awesome, great guide.
Maybe an Arcane one next?
Awesome. Seriously considering rolling away from Paladin. Frost Mage and Fury Warrior are contenders for new mains :D frost is fun
Damn! Your video capture looks so good. Silky smooth frames. What gear do you use nowadays. I will look but if you haven't a video on the newest gear your use I would really enjoy seeing your setup :) thanks for the great vids and keep them coming!
You can just tell Mike hates flurry visual.. "Toss snowballs on the target." "Each of the little snowballs we hit the target with." xD
Because it's shit. Give us Frostfire back.
Big note on stat wise. I found out by siming på charater its worth to have your critt around 28% and 25%+ haste.
Hey preach
I love your UI look and found your preach ui video but sadly it is outdated by a couple patchs now
Can you make an updated one please
Any update on the Glacial Spike video you mentioned having to make?

I am kinda confused that it wasn't just a consumed debuff at any time at all, i almost seems like blizz wanted ppl to be able to do double icelance

very nice, my problem is I don't have an ebonbolt, should I just stay with arcane until I get one or will I still have okay dps thx
May i know all of you addons im seing in this video? The hud, skill icon being move and the name and boss hud being different
Very helpful guideI Regarding our weapon, normally we should do ilvl because it's most important? This was a great guide. Any chance of an arcane one? I STILL don't know how to play that spec properly...
Anyone know what add on he is using for his skill bars and teammates hp and practically everything on his screen lol
YOU TOOK THE OTHER VIDEO DOWN WHILE I WAS HALF WAY THROUGH IT... WHY PREACH, WHY?
Because they JUST NOW pulled out a hotfix and his video got obsolete. Sad times.
Great Video mate. Can you tell me which is the addon that shows Incanter's Flow timing?
Didn't know about the custom lag tolerance bit. I will have to play around with that when I get on later today. By the way, Preach, do you know where the threshold between LW being better than BC lies? I don't think I have seen anything saying where that threshold is.
Could you do a Mage Video for Glacial Spike Spec, please?
You can tell he's proud af of that metronome... He said "EROTIC" metronome trying to sound fancy haha
was so happy when i first saw this :3
how can you take the new artifact? because i dont have the 2 tree open!! i have stopped for 7 months and i missed a lot !! I put all my artifact power on my Spellbone passive is this wrong because i didnt know that we had a second tree

Where's the glacial spike video that you mentioned?
Hey Preach!
I was wondering if this is still a reliable way of playing frost mage in raiding content as of 7.3
Preach help me out! I am looking for that video where you were progressing on star augur and was explaining what you are doing and why. Cheers!
So you are planning to do this kind of guide for every spec right?
Do you have your weakauras string command, so I can copy it and paste it into mine.
So what do you like better Preach Frost or Fire.
Why was the other gearing video removed?
im confused. does preach even know flurry travels faster than frostbolt, so if you stand more than 20 away, you empower your frostbolt by shooting flurry behind it.
whats the command to change the custom lag tolerance?
Where is the altered time link
Preach, what addon is that, which displays the different increases of gear based on the spec.
what about the leggos?
WOA! just as i turned to frost main! YES!
lolfotm
Johan Its frost mage mate. Its flavor of the GAME.
nah i was stuck with BM due left hand wrist pain (played with mouse bindings) but better now, back to mage ;)
I dont know why but I cant keep my icy veins up for more than 1minute. I dont get any procs somehow :c someone has a idea what to do here
your frozen orb works?
I cant make this work consitently even with icy veins + lboodlust
Considering the fact that all your weapons have been pushed back to 35, plus bad luck protection now working for every spec on its own which means it's much easier to get legos for your offspec, would this be considered the best time to reroll specs?
I'm considering rerolling from windwalker to brewmaster but I just want to make sure of the validity of my statement.
Absolutely. Went 1 traits to 36 in a day today with AK26. 36 traits = 54 traits in the old system.
Fuddle F yes, no better time than now, especially since gearing options that were added make it easier to get better stat'd gear for frost
Hai there ver good guide among all i ahve seen. can you share your weakaura with me? i always have a hard time tracking things.
If i have fire wrists and gloves is it worth switching to frost Then?
Im glad we covered glacial spike..
So your old fire guide is still good? Or is there one coming for 7.2?
changing lag tolerance....yeah, good spec if you need that or higher MS all the time...
If I have a ms home of 210, how much my lag tolerance should be?
Is fire going to be viable in the next patch? Or is it just going to be super bad
so is the lag tollerance a must for double icelance if you have 30ms? and does it make you lag somehow?
3:00 look at preach's smug smile having over 1 mil deeps lmao
How do u have flurry twice
ebon bolt gives u one no matter what. If u already had one it ques 2
Should I drop Ele Shaman for Frost Mage?
I only get an uptime of like 40 seconds on icy veins :-:
How much haste do you have?
+Miksuu 31 percent
Hey! Do you think you could share your weak auras?
did you took down the stat scale vid? i swear i saw such a vid from you in my subsciptions tab
What's the add-on that is used to zoom out your camera so far? I am getting tired of my camera slowly zooming in more and more and more....
