great video as always! love your work :) cheers from Canada!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
A huge thank you Malcolm as always!! It's amazing how you make the "complex ideas " or "tricky technique" ( for me) feel approachable! As you know, I always paint bright colors with warm light. I really want to learn how to paint overcast scene. Can't wait to watch your next video!!
You got it!
Thanks for this video Malcolm! Thanks for teaching us to see like painters do! There is still much to learn!😅
In my experience the most beautiful are the wonderfully blue shadows on the snow on a bright sunny day with a clear blue sky.
Thanks for sharing! Yes, sometimes I think it would be nice to have more snow here for the blue shadows 🥶😄

You really are excellent in the Way you teach and show in practice how to blend the Colors and use Them in the impressionistiske color theory - and I loved when you then tolk some real examples from impressionist masterpainters - you could litterally hear the Colors sing 🙏🩶🤍🩵💙🧡🩷❤️💜
Thank you so much!
Wow! This is really good!
Thank you so much!
Merci, très intéressant cette analyse de tableaux. Merci
Malcom, I love your work ! I'd love and appreciate a tutorial video on how to paint colorful village houses built into Mountains like your background? (like Positano)
I might have to give that a go! Thanks for the suggestion.
@@MalcolmDeweyYes please 😊! Thank you for your interesting videos

Appreciate this great information, Malcolm. Hi from Qld Au
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this very helpful information! We have overcast conditions here today and now I’m off to take photos for reference!
Good luck!
Thanks Malcolm, would you please explain the differences between the 3 paintings in a bright sunny day. Want to get it right, thx
Cannot wait for the interior shadows 🙏
Watch it a couple times as I do mention that.
Thanks again Malcolm- it’s freezing here in Scotland 🏴 currently 😂 ❤
Enjoy! 🥶
Thank you for the video, Malcolm! I wonder if the color of the shadow is not influenced by the color of the surface on which the shadow falls. Or did the impressionists not take this into account?
Yes it does eg, blue/green in a shadow and yellow/green in light. But expressive color is another option. Look at the cool blue in Monet's haystack painting. Almost turquoise!
Thank you! Helpful. Sun is rare here iin Central Michigan USA.
You're welcome!
Thanks 😂
What I have observed is that the surface on which the shadow is projecting affects the colour of the shadow, both in sun and overcast. I don’t see that you consider that as much as the light source. Is this because of the Impressionist colour palate?
Yes it does, however you have options to convey the idea of temperature too. Also expressiveness or simply play of color. Monet's shadow in the haystack painting is icy-cool for expressive input. Imagine a hot summer, baking heat. Does that shadow not feel invitingly cool?

Very helpful lesson! Thank you, Malcolm. 💕
I’m a bit confused. Should a shadow ever be lighter than the object?
Observation will answer that. Photographs do not depict shadows accurately at all. Much too dark. Also there may be a lot of reflected light in the scene making shadows more colorful.
