- The BMW M2 has gone and it's been replaced by a 2017 Audi S4 Avant. A bit of a shift in style of car but a great improvement day to day.

Excellent choice. Pre OPF filter and before they got rid of the MMI scroll wheel and just moved to touch screen.

Had my 2016 S4 for a year - love it. Toons are on the way soon I think - if you cane it then heat management becomes an issue I've noticed, the fans run for a long time after switching off - plus the brakes fade a touch. Great otherwise and surprisingly quick. You have to drive like a granny to get 38 mpg though.....never seen it.
Looks nice Sam. I wish they did an M3 touring as I like my BMs... but not the grills on the new ones!
I always thought the "S" models were the pick of the range with Audi's. Very fast but not as compromised as the RS range. Then they changed to diesel and completely screwed that up.
I bought a new S6 Avant, the last petrol one. I'll now be keeping that a long time.

Great review. Thanks. There are very few real-world reviews of the S4 on UA-cam so this and the review by Petrol Ped were really valuable when deciding on a used S4 this week. Needing to carry bikes and kids, I also had the C43 estate and M340i touring on the list but the interiors aren't even close to the quality of the Audi. And that's where you spend your time!
That car might even have the same value in a year or two because it's the last petrol S4, the refreshed B9 generation is diesel as you said so it's maybe even a smart buy now

Glad your enjoying the new car. 2 years old / petrol / no keyless entry. It's the thinking mans car and a good choice ! I'd say a Golf R would have a been a good one for you as I daily mine in and out of London (35miles) mostly motorway and it's great plus it still is just as good on a back road. As you've had an RS3 I can see why you went away from the hot hatch scene to mix it up a bit so hopefully it does you well. C63s would have been epic though ! :-)
Nice review and reason behind buying this S4. If I had your garage (F40 - 997.2 RS - classic 911) then I would probably also get a (R)S4 (or maybe even a Alpina B3 touring)...but for me personally my "manual" N55 M2 is the best do it all car for practical, fun daily driving in combination with doing the occasional Nurburgring trackday :)

I’ve been looking for a B3 Touring for most of the year. Two have come up that I wanted but didn’t act quickly enough. They sell within a few days. I can’t wait forever as have newborn baby so am thinking S4 Avant would be a great choice.
@@888mattd It's definitely a solid choice. The B3 would be great but as you say they are super super rare.
A great review Sam and the little details like your advice on wireless charging and Apple car play make this very informative for potential buyers. May I ask if you got this on PCP/finance what APR you got. I’m currently choosing between an outgoing low mileage petrol S4 Avant and the brand new diesel but am finding the higher APR on the used S4s make the payments on the petrol more expensive (with same deposit) than the new diesel (with has the added benefit of higher mpg for normal driving and being a brand new).
Bank loans are cheap. 20k’s around 3% apr👌🏻👀
Hey Sir I was disappointed and saddened that the 2020 S4 was to be a diesel with three fake exhausts. Just don't get why! I'll be sticking to my 2018 S3 as my daily.
It’s a bit of a shame but it separates the s from the rs a bit I guess and you still get great performance and mpg. Personally I’m good with the petrol 👍🏻
Lovley car mate , I have the same but mine has a panoramic sun roof and I wouldn’t have it any other way

The Navara Blue on that S4 is like the blue on F40BLU. It really matches it.

I own a B5 RS4 ! Have done for 14 years this December ! Great cars and built well apart from sensors EGT, Lambda, MAF etc etc....
I done a track day at Donington back in June and I followed a B8 S4 avant around is always good seeing audis on track. I was in my R26.
Interiors are nice in Audi's but prefer BM's to drive 👍🏻
