I dont understand the people that weren't awed by this. It was the most beautiful natural phenomenon i have ever seen. If you weren't dumbstruck by this event then you either didnt see a total eclipse (yes it makes a huge difference whether it's 100% or not) or your life is so amazing that this was just something you could miss. Know your place in this universe. Experience a total solar eclipse. You'll never forget it.
Lucas Faria were you expecting an action movie? If you lower expectations in some aspects in life you'd be happier. At least appreciate that it happened and you have the option to experience it.
Why in the hell is everyone on here saying it was over-hyped? First of all, this was the first one of its kind in 100 years and the next of its kind wont be for another 150 or so. Second, the camera does not do a justice at ALL!!!!!!!! In order to understand the hype you have to experience that 2 and a half minutes of totality with your own eyes... nothing else in your life will compare to those few moments of awe and amazement. and I mean nothing!!! It gave me true goosebumps... that doesn't happen often. I will never forget it! Before this eclipse I would look up old videos of people watching some that had happened in the past and everyone would cheer. I asked myself, "wtf it cant be that exciting" Holy shit was I wrong... you literally cant help but cheer and be getty when it happens. It is a feeling that CANNOT be described in words! You just have to experience it and see it yourself!!! It looks 100x's better in real life!
@crypticg You nailed it, hun! You had to be there, in the path of totality to feel the magic. Sadly, watching it on the screen does it no justice, but it is the next best thing. Saw this eclipse, my first, in Driggs, Idaho, and the road trip along with seeing this magical event are still vivid in my mind. I'm so ready for the next one in a few years!
You can't call it overrated untill you see the total eclipse in person. What the cameras see isn't even a fraction as beautiful as it is to see it with your own eyes. It is absolutely stunning.
The August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse belongs to Solar Saros 145. It started on January 4, 1639 and will end on April 17, 3009 in a series of 77 eclipses. It is the 22nd solar eclipse.
Everyone is like " This was so overhyped" Well what the hell did you think was gonna happen? You think you were gonna get superpowers or something??? It's not something that you review like a movie. It's an astronimical event that doesn't happen very often. Fuck, get off your phones and start appreciating the real shit
A total solar eclipse especially, or a deep partial (>80%) is worth it. Anything else you just look up at for a few minutes and then continue on with the rest of your day.
A total solar eclipse occurred on August 21, 2017. Totality was visible from Pacific Ocean, United States of America, Atlantic Ocean. Shadow Speed: 3600 km/h / 2237 mi/h
I don't understand why people are saying "this is overhyped" I mean this is something that isn't man-made, it's something that the universe did on its own, and I don't know why those people can't see that
i dont get why they didn't show totality from madras oregon or stanley idaho. they were showing a partial in those locations just moments before totality then switch back to the map!
One thing I found interesting about the eclipse, the bite came in from different places depending on where you were... in Andrews NC where I was, the bite started at the 2:00 position of the solar disc... I noticed, he view of the telescope an astronomer was using, it flipped the image because of the mirror in his scope. I am betting the image of the sun shown here was flipped due to the same mirror, but the bite starts at he 5:00 position... where the astronomers scope showed it at 8:00 position (a mirror of the 2:00 actuality...)
Guess what the next total solar eclipse will happen in less than 7 years and will cross from Mexico to Canada crossing from Texas to Maine! I guess I'm a bit ahead of schedule
*I do get the hype* ... *I saw, and clapped* ... *This is interesting shit, once in a lifetime opportunity* ... only boring people don't understand... smh 🌒

What's more amazing is the ability of the scientists and mathematicians to so accurately predict the time and location of these events. Think about trying to pinpoint the sun's shadow path of the moon on the curved surface of the rotating earth, while the moon elliptically orbits the earth in one plane at variable speeds, while the moon and the earth together elliptically orbit the sun in a different plane at variable speeds.
Here in Canada we didn't get it so that it was dark, and everyone except me was trying to use camera lenses to see the eclipse. I just straight up looked at the sun and everyone started freaking out it was funny, and looked cool.
Hate to break it to everybody who watched this, but you just wasted 5 and a half hours watching a rock float in front of a big ball of gas. Congrats: you did nothing
Top Dawg i bought glasses and everything then my dad took them away and said they don't do anything and told me i had to stay inside he was very over dramatic well guess i have to wait 7 years again
Top Dawg i missed it here in charleston sc because due to weather. it started to get cloudy an hour before it started so me and my dad literally drove for about an hour and a half to get away from the clouds but failed and got stuck in rain. only thing we saw was everything get dark which was super sick

I remember. Me and my family were arriving in Key West and we heard news about the solar eclipse on the plane. When we got to the airport, we saw it.
If you were there, it was amazing
I didn't know the sun and moon advertise the ring.
It's lit

It was amazing!
Is it possible for the earth to be going in the same direction at the same time since its a sphere like a soccer ball or basketball?
Meaning can it collide in the same direction?
Why did the teacher bring solar eclipse glasses to school? She had bright students!
Meaning can it collide in the same direction?
I was going to enjoy the eclipse but the moon got in the way!
@Dark _ITZ It’s a joke I doubt anyone is actually stupid enough to think that

I would say the prediction of this stuff has been made much easier with new simulators.
Today at pe we look at the sun with out glasses
Who watch the whole thing (me)
😂😂✌🏽
It wasnt even dark in Atlanta smh
I went to west Virginia to see most of it but it was wierd because without the glasses the sun was normal in size
