His growth was stunted because his growth was stunted LITERALLY
He didn’t push him too hard. He trained him wrong. He knew his son would be short but didn’t make him master a floater, master separation skills to get shots off, get an elite jumpshot, or master play making. (All the things that would make his height not matter as much). Instead he made him master having tight handles while stayin in one spot aka practice drill handles.
Julian Newman is a great example on how some dreams require things beyond your control. I feel we got to stop this "anything is possible" mentality when some people JUST don't got it.
Anything is possible Isaiah Thomas and mugsy made the nba and he was shorter
@@DJ-pl4cx Yes, but they are more than just short. Isaiah Thomas has a 40+ inch vert and is lightning quick. Muggsy is also super lightning quick, and strong as a damn ox. The shorter you are, the more you have to compensate with athleticism.
anything possible.. indeed.. but the fundamental thing is be humble and stay hard work
@@gufron4011 Humility is not necessary, and hard work is but one element of success.
His biggest problem is his height!! Point blank.. I think if was at least 6'2 he would still had a chance...
Even at 6’2 he would have to undo A LOT of bad habits if he would want to get to the next level
6'2" in Jamaal Tinsley's days was fine but now it's been weeded out of the league. Thank the Milwaukee Bucks
@@LanceVance81 lol bro their are a lot of 6’2 and 6’3 guys in the league

Unfortunately buddy jus had shitty genes.. Dude is still only like 5'5 with short arms, no bounce, and plays to be a 2 guard.. All he was ever gonna be is a street baller at best.. U can't compare him to LaVar bcuz LaVar has the sense to realize he had good genes and picked a wife with good genes
His father simply wrote to many checks that his son couldn't cash! Julian never had the natural tools or spirit that it takes to succeed at a professional level. You can look in his face, and he has that same look that all children have when being forced to do something to please their parents! Watching him for years, I always would say that he had no passion for the game! You can see it in all of his actions, mannerisms, attitude and even in his play on the court. Basketball isn't his calling; (it was just forced upon him) and he will never be happy until he realizes that and actually does the things that he wants, and not what his tyrant father wants!
100% agree. especially in basketball everyone who has been in this realization phase where you have to be real with yourself and recognize that you can't hang for the simple fact you aren't tall enough and ain't one of those every once in a decade athlet it's hard to part with your dreams. and what you described as look in his face is the truth when he talks about his future on overtime you can clearly see the frustration and the cap he has to uphold just for the bag to keep them going, for me this is just sad. it remind me of those parents who put their children through every castingshow in hopes to realize their own dead dreams of becoming a star....
@@zorro18759 yup, this is the saddest part to me.
I loved ball but realized around 15 that my height killed my hopes of even being good in college.
This kid never should have thought he was NBA talent.
Plus his dad was verbally abusive that dropped julian’s confidence
His biggest issue is his fundamentals though, height ain't no excuse. All he had to do is literally stay conditioned and pass the ball. If he had enough energy to be a steal magnet on defense it wouldve made up for his height
Height is an excuse. Why do you think there are so few really short players to have played in the NBA? You have to be able to overcompensate for your lack of height in extreme ways when you're that short, and Julian flat out didn't hit the genetic lottery in that way. EVERY SINGLE short player that you guys name have stories upon stories of how extremely athletic they are. Early Boykins, for example, was 130, ridiculously quick, and could bench press over 300lbs. That is very abnormal.
@@searching4pawgs495 I get what you saying but it's short dudes all over the college levels too and he wasn't even good enough for that. He's shorter than even the average short player but he had too much shooting and handle potential for him to not even get a scholarship
5’7” is a reach he’s at most 5’6”
I don’t trust damn near anyone’s height listing. I remember in high school for football coach just gave us a sheet to fill out our height and weight. I remember being the only one telling the truth. But when it’s time to wrestle those same people want to be smaller now.
@@dontdoittoyoself6786 lol absolutely on the sheet i was 6’0” I’m only 5’10 barely lol
His real stunt is that he is a tiny 2 guard, not small..........tiny! He never became a true point guard. Sooo, what position does he play at the next level🤷🏾♂️ none!
People in the comments talking about he's 5'7"... That dude is MAYBE 5'4".
He wasn’t good. Period. For a little kid it was “cute”, but he wasn’t that good.
Very overrated and was a ball hog and defensive liability dudes like that make me so mad wasn’t a team player at all that dude Emmanuel was better than him but was holding him and potentially other good players back who didn’t get any recognition
He could've been good, he got a lot of fundamentals flaws that would made his game decent if he worked on them
Even if he was 6'3 instead of 5'7, the street ball skills will scare off college and pro teams. It's a team sport first and coaches don't want to deal with that. People need to learn from the And1 mixtape history.
I mean there was that one and 1 dude who got a scholarship to a school coached by a legendary coach who eventually got drafted and played for over 10 years in the nba and started much of his career. I forget his name though. I think his nickname was a kids song though but idk
I been low key watching these videos for months now. I should have been subscribed. They are always good videos.
MY DUDE YOU SNAPPED WITH THIS ONE I WAS WAITING ON THIS SHIT 🔥
What a coincidence I just watched a video on Mugsy Bogues before this. The thing is Mugsy Bogues and a Earl Boykins are lightning fast. Mugsy is also strong and Pesky. You can’t put the ball on the ground without him stealing it. They mentioned Mugsy was a high school wrestler and slammed n pinned 6’9” J.R. Reid.
this. plus the fact in the 90s the nba was a whole different beast. players nowadays are bigger and taller but also more athletic in general.
He was super athletic but also knew the game and played well at every level. From HS (one of the most legendary hs teams ever) to wake forest to the NBA, he played with the best of the best and was shown to be a consistent floor general that was a passing wizard who also protected the ball. I think he has one of the lowest turnover avgs ever in terms of minutes per game and usage. And a top tier assist to turnover ratio. And though he would be easy to shoot over, he made it difficult for the opposite point guard to even set up plays and get in proper position because he was so muggsy lmao
Cheers to the first of a new series

He was in the spotlight before the ball brothers and zion williamson that’s the crazy part and his pops is part of the blame too tbh Julian had the same playstyle since he was in 5th grade he didn’t work to change his game he’s cocky arrogant and had no iq whatsoever that’s how he didn’t get recruited 💯💯

simple: because he summarizes facts that have been talked bout dozens of time. julian graduated over 1 year ago, there have been the exact same videos like this one. there is exactly no news in this video. you can't do videos with old information and expect your subscriber count to grow. no1 cares at this point about julian newman anymore.

Messed up part is that his sister is actually pretty good for a girl player and with some actual good coaching and focus from their father she could at least play college ball but with their show shes just a celebrity

I don't look at the height as something that held him back. You mentioned his lack of fundamentals and I truly think that's the biggest drawback to his game. Pops doesn't know anything about basketball. I really wish he'd humble himself and get a true education in the fundamentals. His career doesn't have to be over. Maybe he can give Earl Boykins a call.
It is 100% height. Height is might Newman is just 5'7 there has only been 25 players in entire NBA/ABA history shorter than 5'9. And that was in the old NBA you got 6'9 pgs now you think 5'7 gonna get it done? Lol. Newman can take some time and unlearn his old habits and work on his shooting but since he cant grow any taller there is nothing he can do the NBA is closed to him now.
Newman can play in Asia league where players are smaller maybe he'll have a better chance of making it.

Alot of these kids parents see I shimmer of hope (athletic ability) push their kids too hard and their child resents them as an adult when things dont go the way they thought it would
You can't be dribbling all extra like that, taking bad shots and not getting anyone involved as a 6'1 point guard and get taken seriously so at 5'5", you know it's a wrap. Muggsy Bogues was 5'3" playing real D and running team ball efficiently, that's how he made it to college and the league.
How about a Stunted Growth video on those two guys on HOOP DREAMS?
“Produce with a woman 5’3 and think your chicken will dominate” 😂😂 fohk I’sthat funny..the dad like 5,7 too

Look… When it comes to basketball, “Height” really doesn’t have that much to do with how you play the game.
Take Muggsy Bogues for instance. Well, Muggsy Bogues stood 5”3, and he played in the NBA for 14 seasons when the league was extremely physical. And the reason why Muggsy was able to play that long in a physical era against some of the greatest basketball athletes in the world at that time is because he was a TRUE POINT GUARD! Muggsy had speed, quickness, ball handling, court vision, top level conditioning, never over-dribbled, a great passer, a floor general, leadership skills, a good teammate, high level basketball IQ, was an excellent defensive player, could start the break, finish and knew how to get his teammates involved to make shots… Julian Newman is the complete opposite of that!
Julian’s mindset is on “SCORING” and being a showman more then becoming a true point guard, and that’s what holds him back. If he had basic point guard fundamentals, and develop his basketball IQ into being a real point guard, then we would probably see him playing Pro.
And yes, maybe the streetball route may be a good option for him.
Well watching the And1 teams we quickly realized that these type of players are not attractive major universities much less the pros
He did set Julian Newman up to be successful in life . Though
It’s his height but he hast to use his talents to make other players around him better so then he will get more easier shots now we make players around him better but I do you know a system because he’s so fast they nada open up more opportunities for him to score more because of his height ,But you have to find another outlet if you’re talented with the gift of being a real hooper...swishhhhhh
Julian's dad look like Borat's Manager
Raef Lafrentz..why was his growth stunted?
Aside from height, he has many other issues. He doesn’t go north to south with all that dribbling, he takes horrible shots in large amounts, he does not pass the ball or facilitate any kind of offensive play, and he plays ZERO defense. Couple all that with the fact that his athletic ability is average. 5’7” is his listed height. He looks to be closer to 5’5”
LaVar had a strategy from the start. Which was so detailed he picked his wife based on it. Jamie's strategy was far less thought out.
There r a ton of reasons with this one. Lol
You going have a lot Kids like this
The crazy thing is he could probably still go to a junior college and still play, if he truly had love for the game. But, he would have to check his ego at the door, and work from there.
He could play college ball maybe not in a power 5 conference but somewhere. Expectations for himself is what the problem is. What's fascinating is his sister probably will end up being what Julian wanted to be🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
