this is so much easier to understand then my teachers explains it in front of 30 students, so thank you for this amazing video, I will definitely recommend this to the other students.
+The3Shogun You are correct for most PT applications regarding cleaning. I disagree about the HAZ. I suppose I could have masked the area of base metal that was not under inspection but the developer spray covers a large area and cleans off very easy. The procedure I was following allows me to wipe in both directions and as indicated I won't have a lot of non-relevant indications that need to be re-tested. Also, the weld and HAZ are evaluated based on VT after PT so I can wipe penetrant out of U/C, etc. and measure for acceptance. Cracks that are very tight would not be wiped away but may be missed by VT. I could have explained why I was cleaning in both directions. Thanks for the feedback.
You should clean the plate in one direction. And also apply penetrant and developer in one direction. It is either horizontally or vertically. Not both direction you can use for perfect results.
After mechanical cleaning ( example wire brushing, grinding, buffing) of part to be tested,is cleaning of part by means of cleaner/remover still necessary?or it can be skipped and apply penetrant already?
Given Mahlangu depends where you are and who you are working for. My preference is to leave clean, unless there are any relevant indications. If there is a defect that is Rejectable I mark up and leave so the welder/QC or whoever is the one you are reporting to may see... I have worked places where they are big on us leaving it clean and also have been places where they just go to next job/weld...

Great video! My teacher played this during class and me and my friends laughed at this because you made it look like a Porn video.. I mean the way you were breathing and cleaning 🤣🤣
Should have tilted the plate to do away with glare and let the viewer see. An intentional crack in the plate would have been good for checking engine heads etc.
Well explained, But as per standard practice while applying , cleaning pentetrant from the surface we should not wipe or clean bi-directionally. It shall be cleaned only in one direction, the same is applicable while applying penetrant. Hope i am correct. Regards Dwarakanathan ASNT LEVEL III
Can you provide with the product name and specifications of the red spray dye and cleaning sprays you used? also can this be used to test for solders on PC boards
make sure cleaner flashes off for correct time, 5 minutes min. old cleaners used to flash much faster. if cleaner remains in crack, inspection is void, if being audited you'll be flagged
I'm an Air Force NDI technician. It's kind of shocking how similar yet different Method C inspections are in the civilian sector. Only 20 minutes of dwell time only using visible dye penetrant! It makes sense though, given its easier, faster, and it's doubtful you need as much sensitivity.
i wanna learn the liquid penetrant teasting cuz im a radio log i wanna some info about that and i wish if someone contac me for ask him meny thing about liquid and magnet
Hello! Thanks for useful video! I have the only one question...Why don't you use a respirator? These sprays are extremely harmful for your health, especially for lungs.
for post cleaning you must clean the surface, from first point to 2nd point you can't clean first to 2nd and again 2nd to 1st. you can clean any of one way 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st jv071

If provide more close-up pictures for all indications on the second test plate, it will be great.
Why u did to and fro motion which doing solvent removal? It's clearly written in ASME BPVC SEC 5 ARTICLE 6
Great demonstration Robert. Mike told me the story behind the test plate. Sneaky!
Nice explanation
If you spray a paint brush with penetrate and brush weld, will that decrease results or is that ok?
You must wipe off pentrant vertically or horizontally only. One direction. And way to much developer on your HAZ.

How to find out the length of a circular defect whose end is loose? as in not connected?
Excellent Video! Thanks!

ya mam absoultly write ...he is not correct because of pentrates also pick out in defects
ya mam absoultly write ...he is not correct because of pentrates also pick out in defects
can you specify where does it say so? in which standard or norm (what page)?
Great Jog Robert! Haven't seen you since the New Bay Bridge Project.

Very Nice, Well Done !

Is Post cleaning necessary ?

Will the fluorescent non-aqueous developer produce better results in evaluating the defects than the visible non-aqueous developer?
What method is this

Hello Guy let mark your Friend too
hi am NDE man from middle east :))
Great video! My teacher played this during class and me and my friends laughed at this because you made it look like a Porn video.. I mean the way you were breathing and cleaning 🤣🤣
Why cleaning zig-zag.,? Clean from one side.
Me studying, getting asmr vibes from this lmao
Lol same bro

How about inside the cylinder of an aluminum engine block with just the head removed?
Well explained, But as per standard practice while applying , cleaning pentetrant from the surface we should not wipe or clean bi-directionally. It shall be cleaned only in one direction, the same is applicable while applying penetrant. Hope i am correct.

You are correct
great job, we were taught to spray the developer away from the metal first to make sure it's fully agitated tho?
+Planet Beat Mobb Yes you are right. it ensures the uniform spray of developer.
Thank you. This video is very helpful. We didn`t know before watching this video how to use liquids.
A close up of the plate with the defects so we could actually see what they look like would have been helpful.
+Jjj Sss Agree
thanks man you did a great job explaining, i am gonna show this to my student for easy understanding
Hi sir
good morning
I'm from india
i finished NDT Level 2
i need a job
did any vacancy is in your factor

etrant is only in one direction ... To and fro is not allowed
Can you provide with the product name and specifications of the red spray dye and cleaning sprays you used? also can this be used to test for solders on PC boards
+Dishita PUROHIT I would recommend using RT for PC boards.
Sir penetrant cleaning need to do in one direction , am i right ?
Good demonstration but please get the camera closer to show the details. Thank you for posting this!
make sure cleaner flashes off for correct time, 5 minutes min. old cleaners used to flash much faster. if cleaner remains in crack, inspection is void, if being audited you'll be flagged
It's cleaning process is not accepted
Camera guy afraid to get close. Otherwise good info
I didn't like it cause a indication in the plate will be better explanation.
You are an absolutely legend, I hope you know that pal
Watching this just for exam purposes 😑😑😑
Wrong apply method
It was nice illustration of the whole process. Can u tell which cleaner, dye & developer you used here?
Pmet is one the oldest and leading companies.
Different products available as per different sizes of cracks

Hi..
I have a doubt.
Is there any need to do penetrate test on a complete machining part ?
That was only 10 min of dwell time.
thanks am actually writing an end of term essay on this, cleared alot of things up thanks.
very clear. well-done. thank you

This is definitely Walter white Heisenberg
Why we are not use to cleaner direct sprey in welding .
your camera man/women is not so very good..
thanks very helpful.
Very informative, Thank you.
Thanks for fine explaination.
can this method be used in pipes
Nice video moderately informal though....
Close up of defects?
Really good explanation thx
great video

Well Explained. Thank you sir, please can u list some examples of the liquid penetrant commonly used
Very interesting and well explained. Thank you sir

Post cleaning is not proper Way..
Somnath Ghosh why?
for post cleaning you must clean the surface, from first point to 2nd point you can't clean first to 2nd and again 2nd to 1st. you can clean any of one way 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st jv071
Somnath Ghosh Post cleaning after the penetrant is applied? What do you mean by 1st to 2nd?
***** 1st point to 2nd point. What Somnath state is that one should clean in the same direction, always right to left (for example)
yaa you are right
