The scroll wheel simulates three functions depending on what the device allows it to. Its simulates touch scroll, back, and semi-home/power buttons. You just need to change the wheel function in the nova launcher navigation settings and nothing else.

There should be an icon size adjustment in the nova launcher settings.
You also need to adjust the grid size if you want to use the 3x3 option
