The haunting sound of the whistles echoing through the valleys is treasured trademark memory of Cass. In that 9% grade area there is a stretch of 13% grade. The exhaust blasts are so strong that fire is lifted off the grates. You can hear the blasts. World class experience even if you can only railfan the parking lot area. A ride to the half way point gets you up the switch backs to the displays and may be perfect for kids. Thank you for posting another great video!
While I've never had the biggest desire to visit West Virginia as a whole, I'd only go there just to visit this amazing tourist line. Btw, Christopher Kovacs did some great narrating.

How old have thats steam locomotive?????
The Western Maryland number 6 was the last shay built in the late 1940s. Cass number 5 has over 100 years on the mountain.
