@andrelefebvre5133 Hughes scored 21 points in 61 games his rookie year playing about 16 minutes a game. Second year he scored 31 points in all 56 games and averaged 19:30 a game. There’s no argument for him earning his minutes. He was given them. Now that being said, I think it’s a great idea to give a young kid of his caliber high minutes. Let him struggle through it and give him every opportunity to break out.
Well, I'm certainly happy Jack has more than figured it out. As for Kakko, I think he'll become a pretty good player as well. I can see him getting 60-80pts per year as he carves out a bigger role and continues to grow his game. That said, I do think there's more to why Jack is where he's at rn and Kakko is where he is than just ice time and opportunity. Let's be real. If Kakko was as dynamic as Jack, it frankly doesn't matter who's on your depth chart - he'd be forcing himself into the same minutes as Jack on any team he played for.
on another team, one where the OWNER cares about winning, but the RANGERS are the only team in any team sport I know of that thinks they are a top franchise when they literally are the worst franchise ever to step foot on a Hockey Rink.
Jack hughes was always mentioned as a boy who needed an extra year to fill out. Kakko was advertised as being able to play along men right away. Hughes always had the potential and was destined to be a star, just needed an extra year to develop
The whole rhetoric for Kakko was that he was NHL ready at draft time. Going in 4 years later and saying he's still growing is really not a valid argument. Guy sucks.
This year will be make or break for Kakko. I am curious how will Rangers put lines this year considering whole Kid Line had pretty good year so I would expect more minutes atleast for Chytil and Kakko
One’s a center and one’s a winger! They both are great players, but Hughes is an elite player! As a Devils fan I’m just happy to watch him and the team. We’re excited that our team is fun to watch again!
You can always refer to bad linemates etc., but the fact is Kakko has had higher goals for vs. goals against ratio even the last two years even in playoffs. Point worshippers should remember that its not about who scores as much as possible, but scores more than opponent.
I'll preface my comments with Hughes is clearly the better offensive player, he's dynamic .... BUT he's a defensively unsound, his ability to win faceoffs makes Chytil look like Patrice Bergeron. In Kakko's case, he's been held back, first by Quinn and then by Gallant. If all goes as planned, he'll be the top RW this year and I fully expect him to breakout and become the competent scorer we all expected him to be (not to Hughes numbers though). He'll be a Top 6 RW that plays a 200' game, defensively sound, probably a 70+ point player. People need to step back and realize that his 40 points as a 3rd line player with limited ice time and virtually no quality PP time, is actually pretty damn good.
I would go with Hughes, but I would also consider moving him to the wing. They're different types of players though, I like KK and believe he's the better 200' player, but Hughes is a game breaker and that's what you want with a 1st overall pick.@@corybutler573
He couldn't win a faceoff if his life depended on it. ... and takeaways don't reflect his lack of work in the defensive zone. By the way, he's 24th in takeaways according to statmuse, and didn't even lead his team in that stat. @@devilsmetsfan6393
Just say that you dont watch hockey if you think Hughes is bad defensively. He plays in empty net situations and always is near the league’s best in takeaways
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say we NEVER see a 100pt season out of Kakko. Ever. But I think he can still be a solid player and have a good career.

Us Devils fans had to hear since day 1 that Hughes was a bust, and that Kakko was the right pick. This is all poetic justice to me.
Also helps to get top 6 minutes right after getting drafted but we’ll ignore the fact Kakko didn’t right?

Kakko isn’t bad. He’s just in a bad system for development. Granted, I’m a Devils fan so I don’t mind the Rangers shooting themselves in the foot. 😂
He’s decent. He’s no Laf who so far has been literally just a guy
@@ChrisLamia I don’t think Laf is gonna pan out. Get a feeling he will get traded if he doesn’t get his act together this season.
Kakko is a bust, Jack Hughes is a superstar. The reason why Jack got more opportunity was because he earned it.
Kaapo has 3 points so far this season 21 games in.
Kakko would score 100 points on the Bruins. I think he's just playing in the wrong system.
well the Rangers suck at young plyers devellopment, so they should do like the Leafs and exchange their top rookies right away
