    I wonder if you can recommend any historical books from this period of the Viking era? I am interested in The Battle of Hafrsfjord, Harald Hårfagre, Rollo and Alfred the Great in particular. There are many books out there but a lot is guesswork or not delving deep enough for me. I am writing a family saga and I am a facts-freak, really want to make it accurate. I also wonder if you know about the selective female infanticide and if it has any historical bearing because I my story is somewhat based on the consequence...

    Richer of Reims in his biography of Rollo the ancestor of Robert the Dane stated Rollo was Danish which is real viking that is a Danish fair child a trade merchant that is a traditional defender of the Dutch who Rollo's own defend to this day it is revealed by Richer of Reims that Rollo's father was Ketil which means son of Thor to some I like to think of the founder of Normandy as Turtle in last name for Turtle means Thor Ketil and is inspirational for the helpless oppressed traditional gentlemen known as the Northmen who are stated as Thor's personal tribe known as the Northmen that appear nearly extinct and are possibly nearly extinct because they are meant to avenge Donar's oak the sacred tree of Thor.

Firstly because im a history nerd like everyone else and secondly because my own surname research has come to an end in normandy circa 1066 around the battle of hastings. I wanted to chase it further but knowinging a plausible country of origin for the scandinavians who made normandy what it is would help. Im sure there is a mix but surely rollos followers would have been originally all fellow countrymen from the same country.

    • @VikingStories
      @VikingStories  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks. We know some of the tall guys where really tall, 6ft or higher (183cm and up). Harald Hardrade must have been more than 190 cm. But in general Scandinavians have been at their highest in the early period, 7-10.000 years ago and present day.
      As a curiosity in Norway well meaning doctors have "forced" parents to give their fast growing kids hormon treatment for decades, setting our average height much lower compared to other countries. This was loosened up in about the year 2000 and now happens very seldom. So it's a curiosity to see several of our top footballers (Haaland, Sander Berge, Ajer), beach volleyball players, handballers and some skiers who are really tall, all born in the late 1990s. We're not used to this at all:)
