    Question on the combustion chamber
    After the chamber mods do you go through and cc and match them or is this something that is not as important for the operation? If you do cc what window between cylinder would you try to be within?

    Crazy stuff, but You and David truly know what to accomplish here in headporting. I'm somewhat nervous about the benefits of street and weekend racing porting because of the atomization of the fuel at lower RPM ranges, but I will give your suggestions a try. Thanks for the advice. Tell David to get well soon, and see you both again here on UA-cam.

    Could it be a benefit to not de-shroud the spark plug side of the exhaust valve since with a scavenge plateau the air seems to want to all come from the quench pad side? Might the exhaust gases be more likely to head out the exhaust port than right through the valve curtain to the other side of the chamber? Also, does a scavenge plateau seem to work better with or without a backcut on the exhaust valve?

    That book should be required reading when you speak about these porting techniques. Page 97-99 will help with the first video of area ruled chamber clearancing. See photo 9.4 page 97. You will see why the valve is lifted from about 1/8 then check bore clearance and go up about 1/8" at a time to develop the shape of the chamber wall. According to the book "36 degrees."page 97.

    Will be interested to see what you recommend for pistons because with that material removal i assume youre going to have to do some math to get back to maximizing your power on pump gas.

    Andy, it never hurts to repeatedly point out that the partially open (or closed) valve is the greatest restriction, far more than port shape. 👍
    Make the area around the valve flow better FIRST.

  • @jesseduke694
    @jesseduke694 Рік тому +1

    Right at the end u said somthin that I must now question. If u have threads from a spark plug protruding through, into the chamber, is that a no no for a nitrous motor or all motors? I have been working on a set of 390 FE heads & I noticed a couple of cylinders a thread or so is into the chambers. But this is far from a nitrous motor. It's just for my ol pickup but it does have a few things to help it come alive. But just a pump gas (91) street engine.

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  Рік тому +3

      It's a no no for all but especially Nitrous combos. The threads will get hot and turn the sparkplug into a glow plug

    • @jesseduke694
      @jesseduke694 Рік тому

      @UnityMotorSportsGarage that's what I've been wondering. I have found small brass washers or shims for small spark plugs but I have never seen any for the big plugs like what a old FE head has?

    Andy I’m not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth but… any chance you and/or DV could put together good parts list for tools and supplies to get a rookie started? I have a few sets of heads I have ZERO money in and have ZERO fear in butchering them in the name of science 😂 and would love to learn how to get good at this.

  • @theblackhand6485
    @theblackhand6485 Рік тому +1

    Opening up around the valves and about the scavenging plateau I understand. What I do not understand is looking to the intake port and its swirl how the scavenging plateau is on the opposite of the (intake-) swirl. Now it seems that the swirl is turning around in an opposite direction so it can and will use the plateau to exit the combustion gasses.
    Explain me that!

    What is the best position for the spark plug electrode so as not to impede flow? It seems like if you are biased toward one valve flow around the other valve is affected.

    • @hotrodray6802

      Stick to the bore size or a hair smaller. If you go out then the flow hits a step which is a big flow upsetter.
