I had the same issue with the ROG Charging Dock. It was charging the device but no video output. The issue was caused by the USB-C cable that was designed for charging only, does not get the video through. I purchased a proper cable and has been enjoying it ever since,
Jsaux 5 in 1 dock works great with the Ally, getting 1080p 120hz, went through the same thing with Steam Deck the first 6 months. Docks are a hit or miss, you need high bandwidth usb c cables if you’re going to dock a gaming Pc like Steam deck and Ally. I think it’s an internal mass production and quality control issue, pretty much all of the above.
Gotta say that my cables worked flawlessly and the mini dock is awesome for hooking up to crappy hotel tvs. My main gripe is that the plug-dock doesn't have an RJ45/Ethernet jack.
I have a Benazcap 7 in 1 dock on my ally, the only problem I've have is new drivers downloaded by armoury Crate stops it from recognizing external monitors, before installing them I can use my monitor, as soon as the updates installed no external monitor.
Beware of the Ugreen one as well. On paper they claim it supports 100w PD but after connecting an official ROG 100w charger to it, Ally still complains insufficient power.
I got the Jsaux 12 in 1 docking station. It has a lot of great functionality with the most ports. But bear in mind you need to get a 100W charger to take advantage of 30W Turbo Mode on the ROG Ally. It only goes up to 25W if you're using the charger that came with your Ally in the box. And I had trouble displaying at 120 Hz on my TV so you might need to lower it to 60 Hz. But overall it works great with a little bit of troubleshooting here and there.
Currently looking at these stands. I suspect most will not be able to accommodate the upcoming Legion Go or anything bigger than the Ally. Most appear to have a "short" USB-C cable.
I would love to buy the Ally but as a pensioner, I am worried about getting a dud and having all the additional hassle of changing it or whatever. It does seem that they have major quality control issues at the moment and I've not been impressed by their response to issues.
I'm in the same boat like you. I purchased an external ROG controller, won't work with ROG Ally hand only in desktop mode ( won't recognize it in games at all). Purchased RGB docking station that works with tv but not on PC connection with Ally. All a huge mess and flop.
I've tested different after market docking stations and they all have 1080p 60Hz, only one i know is certified by Asus 4k 60Hz is the Ibroz Ally Docking station
Yeah the dock situation is ridiculous right now. It seems like ASUS is changing things around to make sure that only their official dock works for 30W. I used to work for 30W with the official charger if I made sure to plug it in prior to turning it now. Now with the most recent bios update along with the AC update I can't do that anymore. Their official dock didn't work for me either. It was actually worse than the official dock. Anyways I finally got my clear TPU case from Amazon today. For the most part I like it but I do wish they would've went in front of the bumper buttons as well to connect the full case. Also the case is close to the B button that I might just mod the case as I don't think it will affect the case much. I'm glad I got more grip now while playing even though it does add weight to it. I still have one more full silicone case coming soon. I'll see how that goes as I'm not really the best fan of those kinds of cases.
I have a j5 create model JCD373 it’s only rated to 60 watts but it works great on my ally gives me 120 hz 1080 p output bought it on bestbuy just no turbo 30 watts
I stumbled upon an HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W. I’ve been using it with my ally and after I installed the HP drivers it’s been working perfectly with my 1440 144 monitor and I can play MW2 flawlessly. I even have a 4TB drive connected with the more intensive games I don’t plan on having on the go.
I've just opted to not use the SD card reader. I'd say that's the one unacceptable thing about the ally. But other then that I love it. Also while it's a generic brand, you can get hard rubber cases for the ally now. I have one with a baked in kickstand and I love it
I just got one. I love it. So I'm getting a dongle hub. And I don't care. I care that they advertised a feature that doesn't work and will always keep my eye on Asus in the future (I'm not a pc person) but I don't care that I'll have a dangle hub. It is awesome to have this in my hands coming from a switch and clouder.
If you use a 100 watt charger instead of the 65 watt charger, the dock will let you run the ally at 30 watts! It pulls power from the charger to run the usb cables and hdmi out. It works on all docks. Give it a shot!
Hey! Thanks for the video! I plan to buy this dock to replace my genki covert dock. Can you confirm me if this dock works well with the steam deck and also the nintendo switch?
Had a Reddit notification from someone that explained that when he sent his ally back for problems with his sd card reader he got a refund before anyone had a chance to look into it (fix the problem),that may mean ASUs may be looking to recall the ally especially with the amount of people that have been affected by the sd card issue.
My Rog Ally Charging Dock it's messes with the graphics and output settings mines works but the 3rd party dock works better it allows me to duplicate screen and doesn't force me to the 2nd screen that your trying to use say a TV or monitor

so the cable is faulty on the ASUS fist party dock? I cant game for more than 20 minutes on my monitor before it blacks out and goes back handheld mode. I'll be running over watch on high settings and it'll still do it.
This Asus charge dock was completely crap. It couldn't output to my ultrawide monitor- zip, zilch even with custom resolutions. It only worked on 16x9 displays for me. Valve dock worked fine on the ally.
Thanks for the insight. My dock cable just died after 3 days of use with no issues. Like you mentioned, quality control is horrendous and the amount of customers like us with the same issue is alarming.
I also own the JSAUX dock. When I connect a 65w charger it only does Turbo at 25. When I plug in 100 watt cable and brick I get full power Turbo 30 and 1080p 120hz
I have this same dock 0 issues sorry you've gotten a dud, but my cable is working fine everywhere, after watching i've plugged into all sorts of devices and haven't had issues.

Hi! I have one question, i wanna use this rog Charger Dock with a portable monitor that's 1080P 144hz and supports freesync. Will this dock be able to support freesync between the Ally and my portable monitor? I have another dock that is almost perfect. It gives me 30w turbo, HDMI port, 4k/60hz 1080p/120hz, and lots of other ports, but then freesync is not available in the AMD settings on the Ally. But if i connect the Ally straight to the monitor via USB-C, i get the freesync option in the AMD software. So i know the dock won't let the freesync data pass thru it... Will this dock let pass freesync thru it?
Hello guys. Can I ask a question? My dock works ok with an lg monitor ultragear 165hz 1440p. But the problem is that I can’t change from window settings the refresh rate. It is always on 60hz. Do we have a solution?
I'm having an issue were my dock won't mirror screens I'm only seeing a picture on the tv not my ally and I want too see both screens I tried projection mode and tried too change it and it won't change
I have the GPD Win4 myself, and I love it. It has a few issues I guess, but I'm SUPER happy w/ it. Physical Keyboard in a portable can't be beat, yeah it's pricey at $1,000 but it's a small company and they were doing portables prior to steam.
i have to rma my ally at the moment gpu keeps failing in games, hopefully my next one i get works perfectly as i purposely chose the ally for my trip overseas at the end of the year, hopefully the dock will be available here soon as i want to grab that too, asus really needs to step up the qa a tad as these issues are seeming a little too common
When I plug in my official doc it’s not playing the volume on the monitor even when I go in the setting and manually select it anything I could possibly do , thanks!
My rog crashes when docked..idk it happens whenever it wants to ..2 times last night and 1x today...doesn't crash in handheld but when i wanna blow a game up that im playing on the monitor it'll play and lets say 30mins later ill get a freeze and have to turn the rog off
The official dock has been ok with the exception of Dolby Atmos Home Theater not working. (Also you can just get a USB hub to fix the lack of USBs on the official dock) I’m having a crap ton of issues with other docks. Edges are cropped out, audio constantly going in and out, games running slow. I paid a lot for the JSAUX HDMI 2.1 dock too!
Most likely that has to do in the "external display" options in the settings. Could be that your system is set to "external dispaly only" which makes the screen in the device go dark and only send video signal to the external display. This setting is used by those people who connect a laptop to an external display and want to keep the laptop closed. I use my Ally in this setting that is why I comment on this. Hope this helps.

I had the same issue with the ROG Charging Dock.
It was charging the device but no video output.
The issue was caused by the USB-C cable that was designed for charging only, does not get the video through. I purchased a proper cable and has been enjoying it ever since,
they fixed the power draw for the docks.
Thank you Mr. Handsy McHandy Hands!
The Steam deck official dock with a 100w charger works great. 30w turbo mode and that dock supports 1440p/120hz
Doesn't really fit the Ally though.
And you don't get 12p on the deck....please
