What we EXPECTED vs the REALITY of Sailing the Azores | S07E14

- When we were back in North Carolina dreaming and preparing for our Atlantic crossing we would google the Azores Archipelago and look at all of the incredible images that would pop up. We wanted so badly to see these amazing sights, to shiver in the cold water, taste the fruit, smell the crops, and feel the misty clouds drift past the green peaks. Many of the images that inspired this trip can be found in Sao Miguel, the Island that we are currently sailing to and the last Azorean island that we’ll get to visit before we set sail for the Mediterranean.

Really enjoyed learning about the Azores. The quality of your video production is second to none for sailing channels. I said a prayer for your baby that she continues to develop in good health and that you have a great birth. 🙏
Wow- a video with all good news? Shocking. The baby is awesome, Cap't. Oso is doing well, Jordan is skeeved by everyone's bacteria (including his own!) & Desiree looks like a million? Stunning views, cool location & odd 'products' like tea & pineapples- very cool. Thanks a bunch for bringing us mainlanders along!
Dear Jordan and Desiree, my name is David, I have been blessed to watch every episode of your journey. As a retired military man I have been very comforted by watching the two of you share life together with myself and so many others. I travelled the world as a combat soldier for 22 years, thus the reason why I have enjoyed the peace and calmness you both demonstrate as you sail. Please know that I pray for you both and the baby, please know that I believe God has used both of you to bless me as I heal from PTSD, I hope and pray you get this message I love all of you very much, thank you. David
Oso with his bandaged paw at the end... what a trooper. Great video guys. Beautiful place.
Desiree, I remember back 5 years or so while on Atticus I you were so unsure of your sailing skills. Now, you're alone on 6 hour watches on an ocean crossing, and you are caring for your dog Ozo, and you are eating for two - both GRILS! Mazel Tov! :¬) Webhead USA
Your narration is increasingly off the charts. The wisdom you’re acquiring through your travel education is apparent, and perfectly interspersed with your day-to-day, adventure experiences, and truth about the reality of your lifestyle. Bravo!!
Congratulations, it's a girl! So sorry for Oso's condition. I hope he recovers quickly. See you next week!
I love how you guys actually take time to learn something about the area you visit. Keep up the good work and here’s to a speedy recovery for capt bear.
u look great 4 21wks..u both will b great parents..hope ozo heals up quickly..c u nxt wk.hugs
Pineapples! Who'd a thunk it! The Azores really are an unexplored destination! What a great destination for sightseeing!
Thank you for visiting my ancestral home. Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
When I subscribed to your channel a few years ago I didn't know anything about sailing but you captured me and now I'm wrapped up in your travels and excellent presentations. If you don't continue to sail for any reason you sure have a future in travel productions. Wishing you continued safe sailing. Can't wait until next week.
2K+ LIKE for this 9,548th view starting... digging the images beginning at 3:22, an on... 8:16 - congrats on the good report, Mama & Pop.
Those islands keep getting better and more beautiful.
Captain Oso, Jordan, and Desiree,
Thank y'all for sharing. I hope that The Captain has healed by now.
Cheers!
Faithfully,
James
What a beautiful relaxing video thanks for sharing! Can you please make videos a bit longer….
Love it when reality exceeds expectations. Your story telling is a pleasure to view.
Great video. Some solid drone shots too.
Desiree & Jordan thanks for another lovely episode this morning. Mom and baby doing great and she's a girl! Prayers for little Ozo's paw. He is the sweetest pup ever. ❤️
I just saw this week's video from Sailing Uma and they have docked in a marina in Spanish Gibraltar and should be there about 2 to3 weeks. This would maker a Great video for Atticus and Uma and good for fans like me who follow both channels and have for a long time mow.
Thank you Desiree and Jordan for taking us with us to such a Beautiful place.
I feel so bad about the little baby's foot.
I am just amazed at the journey that you have shared with us. And now you will be Blessed with a child to love and care for.
My writing skills are not the best but what I'm trying to say is thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Desiree is looking particularly lovely at this stage of growing your new daughter. Fair winds and on to Europa!
It's a girl!!!! Congratulations on having a daughter!! She is lucky to have such awesome parents!!!
I was so lucky to have sailed there in the mid 70's it was still like going back to the 19th century. There was no other tourist at that time. After all this time it is still one of the best places I have ever visited.
National Geographic travelogues have nothing better than you. Very informative. Thank you.
Very emotional the baby's images.
I wish you the best. Every day you are closer and closer of my little Mediterranean town!
Aw poor little guy! Hope Oso gets better quick! Aww look at the baby! Take care of that baby and yourself Desiree! You take good care of them all, Jordan! Stay safe and keep rolling!
I love that little black tulip dress. So cute.
Wow! I have missed you guys! For some reason I got unsuscribed (not by me) and it's been a while! Now I have tons of videos to catch up! Glad you guys are doing great!
That video was really something else! Such beautiful nature and everything. Just wait until you reach the Philippines. They include over 7600 islands and many of them are simply breathtaking!
And there will be one child born in this world to carry on.
This video screamed *verdant* to me! What incredible beauty.
Really... Really.... enjoyed this weeks video..... Thanks, John and Penny... Ontario, Canada....
Thank you for posting this beautiful video of my beautiful Island! I'm from the village of Nordeste!♥️♥️
Wow ! what a beautiful place the Azores are and we are thrilled that you are having a girl Desiree that is wonderful news that all is well and of course we can not forget you wonderful OZO who looks like he is coming right . You are a beautiful couple doing what you want most out of life ...God Bless to you both XXXX
Great job Beautiful. Great photography and really interesting info.
I'm glad you liked it :)
I’m in the Azores they are the most beautiful place and the people are so friendly
Just wanted to say that I hope you are all safe and well, for sure I'm not the only one who worries about you guys. 🙏 please be safe and keep takeing such great care of eachother ❤️
Wonderful of you to feature this paradise on earth! I hope you stay a while longer on San Miguel, to display more of its wonders. Oso licking his infection is not so awful, there is natural antibiotics in saliva! Great video!
Some of those images, like at segment beginning at 9:34 - reminds me a little of the 2 mile path/hike on the Na Pali Coast of Kaua'i - beautiful and very 'jungle-y'...
A very beautiful island. I hope the little boys paw heals up well.
Congratulations on the lil girl, she is going to so spoiled. Good luck guys
That place is so lush and beautiful. Great info on the island and its tea and pineapple production. Glad to hear the baby coming along well and she is growing and healthy. As for Oso, I hope he has fully mended and is back to his old self. Cheers 🍻
Thanks Hector!!
What I love most about you two (Three) is the in depth information about where you are and what you are doing. The documentation and explanation of rebuilding your boat, Sailing, food and your environment, I don't get enough of. Infarct I could watch an hour of your documentation. It's your style and delivery with amazing video that does it for me. Put together these clips of information and sell it as a video on demand and or hard copy file. I'll buy the first copy please!
Be safe and Gods blessings for your lives.
Yep … that’s where I was born… and where I did sailing competition when I was young
You both, and Ozo, are so much entertaining that I can"t stop washing, I'm not an expert in sailing, is because you guys.
Glad to see your dedication to the care of my favorite little bow wowser in the whole wide world.
Best wishes, as always.
Poor Oso! We're pulling for him!
A baby girl!🥳 Thanks for sharing the sonogram. So happy for you two! Another great video as always.
I want this time to thank you. Most folks pas through these beautiful island heading somewhere else. But you guy actually visit the island. Thank you for sharing all!
Great video guys. Nice to see Oso getting better at the end
POOR OSO!!!!!! Sorry he is having a Bad foot that Place WAS AMAZING thanks for Sharing....your Little girl is SO cute Already🥰🥰 Congratulations
Visited the Azores last year and was blown away by the insane beauty everywhere you look. Glad you guys experienced such a magical place 😍🤙
Great Video guys. I hope you enjoy your time there. Looking forward to the next video!!!
Glad to hear the little one (human) is well! Hope the other little one (pup) is doing better.
Definitely the best video you ever produced. Well done 👏
Poor puppy. Hope he gets better soon!
Always so nice to see the videos of 2 very down to earth young people that are the perfect sailing couple Just Keep safe guys
Your cast iron is seasoned exceptionally well, great job
Congratulations! A baby girl!
Glad to see OZO at the end
A few years ago in Madeira, I decided to to to Azores- stayed there 5 days. I recognized the places you visited, hot springs and the tea plantation/ factory
Desiree has been blessed with great hair genes. Glad to see Oso back in the game.
🤣
Agreed - and those will go well together, when she sports her "Mom jeans!!" :0)
I love that you are doing 6 hour shifts. I know that I feel better on 6 hours of sleep (actually pretty good on 6.5 hours) but can barely function on just 4 hours. I think that continuously getting only 4 hours would drain me. You are the first sailing channel I have seen do this, and I really hope it works out for you!
Beautiful place!! btw, sea water may help to heal Osos`s paw, sodium
You are making me a better citizen of the world!
You guys have become my favorite UA-camrs...my favorite sailors and some of my favorite people on this planet. Thank you for taking us with you on your journey.
congratulations, baby girl..hope fur baby is better
Nice episode that checks all the “satisfaction” check boxes for me!👍👍👍so happy for you all living the life and realizing your dreams! ❤❤❤ Baby girl is looking great! Wow! Congratulations again!
My daughter is pregnant with her second, she is due at the beginning of Dec and is having a girl. Love and prayers for OSITO! love and blessing for all of you and baby too.
What a great stopover.
Welcome to paradise!!!!😊
Again, another great video. Why sail the world and not spend the time to enjoy every country on the way. You guys seem to enjoy and appreciate every stop, that why your videos are so great.
Keep on sailing and keep baby safe!
That Captain can be O so happy with his two deckhands taking care of him.
Have you ever accidentally walked into tall grass that was so strong, with very fine sawtooth like edges, that this cut through your skin?
I guess that the plastic "grass" that Oso uses may cut into, maybe not through, his paw skin and together with bacteria on the green patch this may infect him. I'm not sure there are better options, though. As to the patch, I would try to mount some eyelets into it and tie it to a line, long enough to rinse it in seawater. The high salt content may do a better job at getting rid of bacteria (pathogens in general) than flushing it with fresh water.
beautiful place, here in Montreal I have several neighbors from Sao Miguel, nice to be able to see where they are from. Sorry to see Ozo suffering...I'm sure his better by now....cheers
This is just Vonderbar and a lot more . Thanks for the videos.
Angus
Killer video! Wow! What a place! I sure learned a bunch. What a feeling that must be too actually make it there and explore. We will really miss you at Annapolis this year. Great memories of meeting you last year :) f
3:22 - is worth several replays... too bad we can only post one LIKE. 13:28 - though still sporting a bandage, Oso seems to have lost his limp, and regained his happy gait. Made for a good ending to this episode.
What a lovely island. I didn’t know! Good video, Crew!
Just came back from my 1st visit to the Açores, Terceira island; I am silly in love with this place, and yes, I have visited 3 different islands in Hawaii and 45 countries. ♥️🇵🇹❤️
You guys have brought back some great memories of my time in San Miguel, especially the pineapple plantation. Before I got to go there I thought only Hawaii produced pineapple.
Great episode guys, beautiful views, hopefully the little guy is feel better. I think he deserves a promotion for a battle field wound. safe travels
It's great to see your confidence increasing with each new passage. The thing I like about ocean sailing is that it is both a journey and a destination. You'll get from the ocean what you'll never get in a plane at 35,000 ft, and you will be much stronger people from the experience. You're the best guys. :)
Always enjoy yalls journey. I hope Oso is feeling much better. He is good practice for the baby lol. Many Blessings
Just a wonderful video. Volcanoes, hot springs, tea, pineapples, seeing the sweet baby, and on and on. I'm proud of both of you, and your accomplishments.
It’s natural to be worry about the first baby, we all went through it. You will do great! You keep enjoying every minute, I loved the whole 9 months.
that place is amazing.
Superb!!!
Am enjoying this new stage. Glad to see Oslo walking around at the end.
Well again a great video. In your last segment of the video the doggy looked like he was doing better and defiantly on the road to recovery. As always looking forward to next week. Until then have fun and be safe. Thanks for the ride and sharing the adventure.
Nothing more amazing than seeing the miracle of life in full display. While you have taken me to far off places and I have shared in your journey for many years, I feel closer than ever to you seeing your beautiful daughter’s face in the ultrasound. Thank you for being so real and candid. Congratulations!
You guys are so captivating. I look forward to seeing your adventures every week.
Congratulations on the new crew. Be safe.
I love pineapple! What a wonderful Island paradise. Thank You for the upbeat video and happy for a healthy baby!
Thank you so much that video is so wonderful! I learned so much about the Azores, a place I’ve always wanted to go to. The pineapple information was spectacular -I could almost taste the juicy fruit -thanks again, looking forward to your next video!
So happy bout you two being pregnant. PERFECT. Love from Florida.
When I was an "over the road" trucker, we ran 5hrs. on 5hrs. off. It works just well enough, But after a week, sleep deprivation sets in and it becomes very hard to stay awake during your shift. We tried 3v3 4v4 5v5 6v6 and the sweet spot is 6 hrs for enough sleep to not be deprived. But a 6 hr watch can be pretty long at night.
You're living my dream... I'm refitting at 30' WD Shock and about to take my week long captains course.... inspired alot by yall....
Keep going and can't wait to see ya out there somewhere
Glad you both enjoyed your trip to Azores! I was born there, maybe going to visit next year.
You never know what the weather is going to be like.
But great food & the people are friendly.
I actually did a "2 thumbs up" when the doctor announced all was well with the baby!!!
