@@danielzeman7530 I think the fact that it has IBIS made it a little bit bigger. But the a6xxx series is very portable even with such features. With the a6700 they really made a portable beast. But of course for a beginner or someone who takes photos occasionally it is still pricey.

Hey Pierre what is your honest opinion on comparing this a6700 camera with another compact - the a7c? With the price point and sales going on currently I’m in the market between these two… the a7c full frame sensor seems like a nice option to have for better low light performance but the added megapixels, and ai auto focus on this new a6700 seems like a great option too- i mostly will be doing portraits/ cars/ street photography. Are you able to help me out!? What is your professional advice!

The thing are the lenses. And especially now, with 1.2 primes appearing for APS-C, and with the prices of equivalent quality full frame lenses getting higher and higher, I'd go with APS-C any day. Been thinking about full-frame vs APS-C for a while now since I was considering the A7C. I've compared a lot of photos the past year and yes, the FF definitely has a better low light performance and bokeh. But looking at it from the perspective of a casual shooter who just does this on travel/vacation, those advantages are better saved for a professional photographer. 90% (maybe even more) of my photos are gonna end up on my phone/social media anyways and people there will rarely know the difference. Maybe some would end up as my desktop wallpaper but it's not like I couldn't live with a bit of worse bokeh.
Also have to think about the costs. FF body and lenses are so expensive and that's what's primarily keeping me away from switching to it. If I had infinite money then I'd go full frame but the price difference between building your own set of lenses for APS-C vs FF can be used for a lots of other things.

    • @DDHDTV
      @DDHDTV 11 місяців тому +1

Agree, but depending on the lineup you're running it's not even that expensive (buying used) nor is it heavier
My current apsc lineup is sigma 16mm 1.4, 30mm 1.4, Sony 18-105. and I shoot 98 percent of my photos of with the Sigma.
      those are 405g, 265g, 427g = 1,096g
      possible replacements:
      samyang 24 1.8 230g, sony zeiss 55 1.8 281g, sony 24-105 663g = 1,174g

Also thinking about going apsc or ff. Apsc is cheaper, yes. But my question is, will I desire going FF in the future? If thats the case, then investing in FF body and lenses is the way to go. But I dont know if im going to stay satisfied with apsc or there will be time that I want to go ff even if its just for talking heads and capturing family occasions.

Agree completely with your comments. I have both APS-C and FF and when I mix images shot with each in a book or 'slide show' no one can tell the difference or cares! I think we as photographers create stories in our heads that FF look is soo much dreamier and we'd be missing out if we shoot APS-C. So while yes FF can create more shallow depth of field look, if you shoot faster lenses with APS-C you will get a VERY similar look. I find it really about lenses like the 85mm f1.4 and 135mm f1.8 that make those bokehlish images. Those lenses would give you gorgeous images with an A6700 body

Been thinking of upgrading for awhile to Full-Frame and I currently own the a6600. I think it makes sense to wait until Q3-Q4 of this year until a7C Mark II is released to determine if I want to stay APS-C or move to Full-Frame. The a7C Mark II will most likely have the same sensor from the a7 IV with 33mp over 26mp in the a6700. The downside I see is that the 33mp sensor can only do 4K 60fps vs 4K 120fps in the a6700.

Compare this to the A74, with something wide, something like the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and Sony 100-400 GM our something on the telephoto and you are spending more, with more weight, etc.

I’m buying it as a long overdue replacement to my backup camera the Sony A6000. To me the new BSI sensor, the AI autofocus and ergonomic improvement in the front dial, new menu and full touchscreen makes it a worthy upgrade. I would buy this over the discounted A6600 for those reasons. I’m glad the Sony held down the price to USD $1398. Sure, they could have added a much improved LCD and viewfinder and added a joystick or a second SD card slot but that would have increased the price. I already have a full frame Sony camera and appreciate that the A6700 complements that by being lighter, more compact and cheaper. We have many choices in cameras today…to me I have my cellphone with me at all times. I use an RX100 to take with me for hiking and backpacking. I can see the A6700 being handing for that purpose as well especially when paired with a small APSC prime. It’s also useful to me as a B camera and will be probably be my choice of camera when want to travel light or do street photography. I can see using it for wildlife photography as well, extending the range of my modest but lighter 100-400mm lens. As good as a full frame camera is…it is probably my least used camera. I’m perfectly happy with my A7RII for landscape photography. I don’t need the latest and greatest autofocus for that purpose. There’s something to be said about an updated light, compact hybrid camera that can do photography and video well. It’s a camera that I look forward to putting inside my EDC sling and have with me more times than my full frame camera. The A6700 fits the bill for me. I’m not going to stress and compare it to the Canon or Fuji competition. I’m perfectly happy in the Sony ecosystem as I have a good collection of full frame and some APSC lenses. I’m happy that Sony finally made it worth it for me to upgrade my trusty A6000 in 2023 before that camera wears out. My trusty Sony A6000 and A7RII were breakthrough cameras that convinced me to switch to mirrorless. They have served me well…so well that it was hard to justify replacing them….so the A6700 has some big shoes to fill.

I bought an X-S20 a day before the A6700 was released and now I'm torn, should I keep it or get the Sony.
The things swaying me to the Sony are no crop in 4k60 / FHD240p (why add a crop Fuji!), much better video AF, catalyst (for some awesome post processing options), weather sealing (I don't film in the rain but got rained on several times and was scared for my X-S10), 4K120p (even with the huge crop), higher ISO range (better in low light?), the ISO for SLOG3 Is 800 instead of 1250 on the Fuji FLOG2 (less noisy video?), amazing in body fixes for lens breathing and other lens defects (can't find any info on in body fixed on the Fuji?), I'm finding the exact same lenses are 20-30% cheaper in E-mount vs X-mount.
The things swaying me to the Fuji is the open gate 6.2k (great for instagram and UA-cam cropping), no overheating in video, better IBIS (on paper anyway, I can't find a side by side test), 4k60 USB webcam (single USB cable for power / external recording with film sims, very cool!), better LCD screen, joystick is super handy, fuji colours and film simulations are awesome to have, some unique great lenses, many years of meaningful firmware updates (Sony are notorious for neglecting cameras after release).
    I'm very torn! - Any thoughts? :)

That's interesting, I'm on Fuji right now and I've been disappointed with the video specs of my X-S10. I bought an X-S20 and the video autofocus still leaves a lot to be desired, I still cannot move my focus point to an object and ask the camera to track it in video, only in photo more. It feels very dated.

It's simply more fun and engaging to use, from their design to their features, while the Sony cameras are technical powerhouses but feel more like a tool. This is agonizing. Nikon FF to Fuji X-T5 to MFT GX9. I’ve loved the GX9, it has a higher res screen and VF than A6700! But mft is too cropped.
I’m interested in the Sony for its AF, video tech, and size. Even X-T5 felt big.
But it’s all about printing. Aside from DOF differences, would one be satisfied with 20x30 out of APS-c? I Love the form factor of the A-series(although as a still shooter I like a flip screen better). The size, weight and cost of lenses for full frame is nearly a deal breaker. The question for me is print quality a deal breaker?
