My dad wants to go to a battlefield with me and your Shiloh videos are making a strong case for me to take him there this fall. Keep up the great work and hope to meet you at Gettysburg 160. Also thank you for your help in setting up the GoFundMe for JD. The history community needs more folks like you and JD.

Got back from Shiloh a couple of months ago. Wish I’d watched this before visiting - it’s a good and succinct summary of Sherman’s presence there.

    Great video!
That meeting between Grant and Sherman is one of the moments in the war when I would love to have been a fly on the wall, so to speak.

They were probably relieved that they didn't have to fight General Johnston again. That and having twice as many troops on hand surely boosted their confidence.

My great, great grandfather was in the 6th Iowa, which was the end of the line on Sherman’s ( and the Union) right. They were so beaten up on the first day that they fought separated and attached to various other regiments on the second day. He fought through Atlanta and was promoted ultimately to Captain after so many of the officers were killed during the war.

My great x5 uncle was in the 43rd Illinois "Koerner Regiment" - The story of Raith in that regiment is cool to me. The man also came from Hanover Germany like my ancestor and settled in the same area near Belleville IL. He helped organize the 43rd in st claire county, basically a german immigrant regiment. He was given command of a brigade in McClernands division during the attack because the actual officer was sick. He was wounded in the battle and passed soon after. Engleman, also part of the 43rd and a german immigrant living in the same Belleville area, took Raiths place. Raith was Englemans company captain in the Mexican-American War

Awesome job, Chris. I know you have said you hate editing, but that was a great example of a great editing. Can't wait to see more. And your trip to Europe again.

Like your Battlefield tours all over US. Great serie on Shiloh and think I will soon see something from Gettysburg on that battle 160th year days.
In these days the phrase "A House Divided" looks to have rewoken over on your side of the pond. It's scary how divided people looks to be today in US and so far from even trying to avoid something that happened 160 years ago.
Lets hope you all Americans can look back and understand how bad it can eventually get. We in Europe are really worried since it spills over on this continent as you understand.
I grew up in the cold war era, and as a teenager then I think I was less worried then I am today. Somehow it looks even more closer today than what the Doomsday Clock showed in the 60s.
Hope is still on the table, but it is lesser every day.

There used to be a school behind the modern church you can still see part of the foundation.

Hi, Chris, another brilliant original content video. They are all so good, I wish you could do more but it is the reactions that bring in the views, talking of which the 7th part of Useful Charts Christian denominations series is now available and I would also recommend Extra History on Napoleon in Egypt which was very good. They have also just started a series on the Crimean War. Hoping for much more original content as well.

Also There was confusion because they thought it was the guards changing shifts because they would normally load their rifle during guard duty and afterwards use a ball puller to pull out the minie ball. But instead of cleaning out the black powder they would fire it off into the woods because it takes a lot of time to clean out a bunch of powder. so they assumed that was the sound they were hearing.

Chris, I love it when battle presenters actually walk you through the fields instead of pointing to maps, as it really brings it to life and helps orientate you to where the fighting was taking place. Now I need to subscribe and go back and watch the first two Shiloh episodes. I plan to visit this location in late June 2024. Thank you for making the videos!

According to the National Park Service and the signs there at the site, 2001. That's the date I stated in the video.

Hey man, if you're planning to make your way to any of the battlefields in Virginia, feel free to hit me up and I'll show you around. I don't want to say publicly where I live but we are filthy with civil war history and I'm confident it's a stop you're making. I also don't know if you've ever heard of or looked into the N-SSA but I could introduce you to that world as well if it's of any interest. I was a competitor for 4 years, my uncle is still a competitor (20+ years) and my grandfather was a competitor (15+ years). I won't take it personally if I don't hear from you, obviously I'm just a stranger on the internet which means I may or may not be a crazed murderer.

You should look into Gov. Blanton’s past. Puts a stain on that monument.
Enjoy your videos. I hope JD has been able to replace his equipment.
