    It's awesome to see that in 2011 Jesse was just a random fan at Blizzcon asking a question and in 2015 he actually moderated the Q&A panel

    I'm looking at Gundrak (the huge building) and inspecting the 5-man right now, and there's no way that huge building was meant to only serve as scenery. It looks *exactly* like a raid, with an entrance and all. In fact, speaking of snakes, there's a gigantic snake skeleton inside the room you enter after killing the first boss in the instance, and continuing on it leads to the room where that snake tail in that screenshot is. And that snake tail is - guess what - *directly* under the huge Gundrak building. This is obviously a scrapped raid; there's no way all that was put in the game just for a lousy 5-man loosely (if at all) related to the lore.
    By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Metzen looked really pissed off when Jesse walked up to him?

    • @hanplay1994
      @hanplay1994 11 років тому +6

      There was going to be troll and vrykul raids in Wotlk but they scrapped it

    • @MrJustinArt
      @MrJustinArt 11 років тому +6

      hanplay1994 Yeah. Utgarde Pinnacle was going to be one, but WotLK was really just focused on the (undead) Scourge more than anything - kinda figures since it's Northrend and about the Lich King; but you'd think that an expansion with one of the most iconic Blizzard villains in it would be a whole lot better and fleshed out more.
      WotLK - the lore was awesome but the story sucked (kinda).

      @Perid0tStar 11 років тому +1

      hanplay1994 Yeah, too bad too it could have been pretty cool--i mean they also had some weapon designs up! how else could they possibly explain some of the clearly troll-esque weapons to drop out of ICC of all places?

      Ive thought for a very long time that Metzen is that kind of guy who will say ‘cool, this was great!’ to staff or players then go home and say ‘wow what a bunch of nerrrrrdsss’ unironically.

    • @KaylaRequiem
      @KaylaRequiem 2 роки тому +8

      I know this is old, but body-language wise, that's not the look of Metzen being pissed off, that's the look of Metzen staring towards the image as it approaches and being like "What the fuck? Where? What? Huh? Snake Tail? I don't remember a snake tail, show me your sna- well shit, there is a snake tail." in his head, all at once, it's the look of confusion and bewilderment.

    now if this had been dark souls, miyazaki would have been able to deliver a long speech on how that subtle easily missed tail has massive lore implications and challenges everything you thought you knew; except he would actually just give hints because he wants fans to work that shit out on their own. this is wow though, so 'it's just there to look cool' is apparently an acceptable answer. honestly the rest of the games industry needs to take notes on how your environment can be used to tell a story rather than have random things in it just 'cause

    • @Perid0tStar
      @Perid0tStar 10 років тому +2

      Actually, its widely believed that Gun'drak was set up to be a raid that they called off. not only did the questing build up the place, but it had a reasonable little hub going on, complete with a flight path, armor repairs, and an imposing raid entrance. Ulduar had the exact same thing, with its two related 5 mans in proximity.
      There were even troll-looking weapon designs which mysteriously showed up in ICC later, which seems to have been created for the raid and were then the models were used in the loot table there.
      A comment made a year ago by a "MrJustinArt' also pointed out that there's a giant snake skeleton inside the room you enter after killing the first boss in the instance, and continuing on it leads to the room where the snake tail in the screenshot is---which is directly under the huge main Gun'drak building.
      Its widely regarded that bliz downplayed it to quiet the community raids that didnt make the cut, such as the speculated Abyssal Maw one that didnt make it in Cata.
      (incidently, the new expansion is pretty good)

    • @flyingeagle3547
      @flyingeagle3547 9 років тому +1

      +quetch2 Or you know. The sensible thing and *have both*.
      There is no reason to not have things to make it look cool. That's the purpose of set pieces.
      Virtual Environments that have a story are comprised a few things you want to break it down to a more easy to understand level.
      1) Narrative assets.
      2) FX
      3) Set pieces
      4) Things that make the physical word itself which can play into the narrative aspect heavily or lightly (the name for it can be different depending on the studio)
      The set pieces are the finishing touches that ultimately make it look nice. It can play into narrative, but it does not have to. For example, I made a virtual environment in UE4 once, and the story (basic story) behind it is that it's a village on an island with older style homes with a fantasy type flare to it (I didn't do research of different cultures and civilization's architecture for inspiration which would have been a good idea). And the village was taken over by a military force (Nazi inspired) and you walk around the environment's aftermath.
      In that environment, an intended set piece was also intended to play into the narrative by having a helmet from the military left behind as well as weapons and vehicles (purely set pieces) which would clash with the buildings, implying they are of different cultures.
      That's an example of a set piece playing into narrative.
      But you can also have set pieces that are there to just make it look cool or to make it look nicer in general. Such as if you were to have a cave and you added a few loose stones around, they don't really play into any narrative, but they can make it look nicer.
      You could have an environment in a city. For the sake of this one let's say it's an Assassin's Creed game, not even one that is necessarily already in existence. You could have people flying kites. You could have hot air balloons in the sky. You could have big ships sailing out in the water in an area you cannot get to. None of these necessarily play into narrative and they don't have to. They can add to the narrative, or they can just add to the environment.

    And memes aren't part of someones sense of humour imo. They are just social instruments. They exist to show people you "know". It's no coincidence people mainly use them in crowded situations. It's like people quoting the entire Collegehumor video. People responding with memes aren't responding to one person, but showing off to a crowd.

    This...is perhaps the biggest reason I quit playing WoW and rarely ever look back. • @524mills
      @524mills 10 років тому +9

      When did they ever say they "just do "whatever looks cool or whatever sounds cool"? Art team =/= story team. The people answering questions didn't know that was in the game because, oh, I don't know, they don't work on the fucking art direction of the game, and they didn't know the art team threw in a cool thing but miniscule like that?
      Anything to get on the good ol' "BLIZZ SUCKS NOW!!1!!111!" circlejerk train I guess.

    • @DathanielTDK
      @DathanielTDK 10 років тому +5

      524mills
      So basically what you're saying is that the art direction just throws things in there without any collaboration with the story team? There's no effort or thought put into it like, "this looks really cool, but could there be a story behind it?" That pretty much supports my original claim. Overall effort into WoW is 48% art and 2% story.

    • @paardenneo
      @paardenneo 10 років тому

      524mills That might be true, but it doesn't change the fact that even they sometimes don't know what they are talking about. The Falstad Kurdran thing proved enough, since they are sitting there they are supposed to know everything there is to know, but they don't. A simple figuring out what happened to Arthas' body, giving a straight answer to the question if Illidan is dead or not, not implying that we've only explored half of Azeroth to further hype up the game, immediately being able to answer that Saurfang is a Blackrock orc, confirming Calia & Lianne Menethil's deaths (which seem pretty obvious because what the hell are they still going to do with the characters anyway), etc. These are just a few questions that have been asked in the past that sprung to my mind. It's quite unthinkable that we have 3 storywriters on stage, and dodgy answers are still being given. What's the point of having a lore Q&A if they can't provide answers?

  • @hiro1001
    @hiro1001 11 років тому

    The issue is that games, TV shows, movies, etc. have multiple writers. While they SHOULD be savvy about what all the other writers, artists, programmers and what not are up to, most are not. There are just so many people involved with making these type of products, that it's near impossible to keep track of everything. It's why TV shows tend to vary so greatly in quality from episode to episode for example, because different writers handle different episodes, and they don't always act together.

    He can have every sense of humour he desires to have. This wasn't *his* humour though.
    He interrupts many questions and answers with nothing but shallow memes. He is imitating what he views as the majority of the internet to forcefully please the audience. He overcompensates for his insecurity (which is DRIPPING of him, don't tell me you're not noticing that).
    This is even more upsetting if you realize it's not a regular guy, but someone who is responsible for the answers to these questions.
