  • Being a teacher and a language assessor for 45 years, given a chance to teach now, I would do it differently. Here are some ideas that we can explore together. The reason is education seems to have failed to deal with fundamental human challenges in the 21st century. According to a study by NASA, We are born creative geniuses (98% of children), and the education system dumbs us down. The scientists were so astonished that they decided to make it a longitudinal study and tested the children again five years later when they were ten.
The result? Only 30 per cent of the children now fall into the genius category of imagination.
When the kids were tested at 15 years, the figure dropped to 12 per cent!
What about us adults? How many of us are still in contact with our creative genius after years of schooling? (creativityworkshop.com/articl...)
    Sadly, only 2 percent.
To encapsulate my ideas, I have designed a new approach to teaching 'The Developmental Approach to Teaching'. I experimented with it initially with the research scholars I was teaching at the Panjab University, Chandigarh, some twenty years ago. Subsequently, I have explored it with teachers and researchers in many countries, some 30 in number.
It was also used while teaching prisoners in the Burail Model Jail in Chandigarh, and you can read the research paper online.
It seems to me the education process is akin to the transformation that the caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly. The chart shows the different stages and capabilities that need to be acquired to be a good and smart human being.
    Please watch and comment.
