    I just unboxed a mastercraft rotary tool I had for almost a year. I really want to try give this carving thing a go. My question is are mastercraft rotary tool and dremel tools the same thing? Can I carve just as good with the rotary tool? Because I always see people use the dremel and not the rotary tool. Anyone who can help I appreciate it

      @MattCarves thanks for the reply. I really want these burrs in your video so I'm gonna order some soon. I'm really excited about trying this out and if this rotary tool doesn't work out I'm definitely buying a dremel. I got lots to figure out by then like what kind of wood is easiest to carve and which bit or burr to use. Should be fun

    Yeah, the 1/8 or 1/4 question!!! I hogged out about two cubic feet out of a log THEN I realized they make a 1/4 that fits in a die grinder (HUGE Dremel!!!) OMG soooo much nicer to remove lots of wood fast!!!

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  Рік тому

      Yeah, I havent really used the 1/4 burrs (I do have some). They sound like they made your job a lot easier. If I want to remove a lot of wood I tend to use the big Arbortech ball gouge, which is pretty wicked as well. Cheers 👍🙂

    Matt, I've been watching your videos as well as a few other power carvers, and your tips are extremely useful! I just purchased a Kutzall variety kit which includes a wheel burr (the one you put in the knight figurine's hand). I haven't seen any videos from you or others using this particular burr, and when I tried to research it, all I could find was videos using or reviewing Kutzall's new shaping discs.
    Is the wheel something that is rarely used? And if so, what would you use it for. All I've found so far is literature saying it's used for curved channels and undercuts. Any help would be appreciated!

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  Рік тому +1

      Its not used a lot, you can use them for big concave. Here is a video I made a while ago. ua-cam.com/video/cyI9O6KFsv0/v-deo.html

      However if you were into making spoons a lot. The arbortech ball gouge would be the fastest way of making them.

      @MattCarves interestingly, that video didn't come up on my search for Kutzall Rotary Burr. Thanks for the link! As I suspected, I doubt I'll be using the wheel much - if at all. Maybe I'll carve Burt the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins so he can get some use of it.
      However, I did notice that in the close-up of your spoon after using them, it shows an interesting feathering left in the wood. Perhaps with practice & a soft touch I can utilize it for detail work in that regard.
      Thanks again, your videos are an inspiration!

      thanks Matt, i have learned the hard way, 2 weeks ago i was carving a mushroom with a nylon glove on my left hand, using the extreme flame burr, and it caught on my glove, sadly it ripped of my little finger well half of it anyway, they took the rest of at the hospital. but it will not stop me i love carving, i am only a beginner but keep doing the videos and i will keep learning, thanks again ,

    I have 9 of these and 2 of their discs, and a round bowl bit. Kutzall 1/4" fine sphere is my favorite. I love the brand but with 1/4" size burrs I can't get away from tiny scratches. I dont know if i need to use them more or a softer touch. Any tips? Is it the angle I hold it at?! You don't seem to have the same issues as I do! Could just be I need to get some of their 1/8th for the fine details I'm looking for

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  Рік тому +1

      Cant say I carve with the 1/4 burrs, but I do have some. I just looked at the 1/4 fine sphere and the 1/8 fine sphere and I reckon the 1/8 is more smooth than the 1/4. thus that may be a cause. I tend to use the fine 1/8 and then move onto diamond or cutter burrs to get the smoothness I require. Hope that helps will but a photo up on the community tab soon of those two burrs.
