Under high magnification manganese dendrites look like feathers.and paint splatter edges are round.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but on what types of ancient pottery does manganese form? I don't think it forms on all types, correct? Does it form on earthenware that doesn't have paints?

Jason Kim you can find it on stone and pottery with and without paint.

Thanks, but I have some earthenware that are over 2000 years old but don't have manganese spots. So, just wondering if there are certain conditions it grows on versus some other conditions.

Jason Kim it depends on environmental conditions.

Great video! Im currently down in Jalisco Mexico and have came across a store claiming to have genuine clay figures found underground. One of them has what appears to be manganese but I haven't tested nor purchased anything. I did however take pictures. Anyone willing to look at the pictures I took and share their opinions? I will he leaving town in 3 days, thanks.
