    PSA, research will be needed to unlock the ability to get blueprints from scanning leaks. Imagine my surprise when the 5 emp bombs didn't net me any! I'm playing with the base game and no dlc.
    Keep up the videos Francis, I've been sleeping on X4 and now I'm getting back into it now that they've added useful things like tutorials.

    couple of tips
    1. plot cost depends on location, you pick some more distant spot, you'll pay much less

    You'll find that you'll want to create a satellite station for mining silicon. If you try to do ore and silicon on the same station the manager will fail to effectively manage the mining ships and you'll run into periodic shortages of one or both ores. You can accomplish this by setting up a mining ship to haul the ore between the satellite station that actually does the mining and your main station. Transports can't haul ore or gas. I usually take it a step further and refine the silicon before shipping it since it's a 1:1 relationship between ore and product at that stage of the production cycle.

    • @jakotheshadows87
      @jakotheshadows87 Рік тому +2

      100% this. Miners can be set as station traders and will trade wares in their cargo type (solid or liquid) for their commander. I personally like to build a trading station for each raw resource as this, when done strategically, can effectively double your effective mining range as the trading station manager levels up to 5 stars.

    Don't forget about those random enemy raids from Xenon/Kha'ak/Pirates all it takes is a few undefended blind spots on your stations and they can be severely damaged.
    Also you may want to make sure your hired pilots/managers have good skill levels (skill training is extremely slow! in X4) and anybody with less than 3 stars is usually garbage and expendable.

  • @Tieberious

    with stations you can set them to buy only from your own stations. this way you can build stations focused on one product that trade with each other. doing this you can expand each station at the same time. Just a different method to mega factories people might want to do

    Scanning and exploring does get tedious. These days I use the custom start to begin with 10 million and use a mod that explores all sections and stations from the get go. For getting blueprints, I only bother stealing the really expensive ones.
    I generally don't bother making all-in-one stations like Francis John is planning. It gets really hard to keep scaling them out when you are making mega-stations.
    Hull Parts complexes (Hull Parts + Graphne + Refined Metal) and Food/Medical complexes (food + medical + spice + wheat + meat + water) are as complicated I go.
    My Claytronics complexes only ever have Claytronics (maybe Solar Farms if they are big enough). I have completely separate Quantum Tube complexes (Quantum Tube + Graphice + Superfliud) and Microchip complexes (Microchip + Silicon Mine).

  • @jakotheshadows87

    The best way to find missions is to get on the highway and open your map and look at mission offers on the map screen. Also money is not the real reason you want to do missions, reputation is. Max reputation with a faction affords you a lot of juicy benefits that you want to unlock ASAP. For money, you've pretty much already got that figured out just keep doing what you're doing. Mining and selling ore with auto miners is a great start. Most of the missions offered via data leaks are to basically go do crimes, typically with an opposing faction that you will want to trade with at one point or other.

    If my X3 days are anything to go by then.. Teladi tend to build them sturdy with big shields and big cargo. Splid(?) like them fast and stuffed with way to manny weapons to the detriment of most anything else. Argon are basic and therefore allways an ok option. Borons just look fishy. Paranids overspecialize their ships. They tend to do one thing really well, but lack balance. But giventhat you chose a pegasus i figure you already knew.
    I fondly remember my paranid destroyer mostly equipped with shockwave generators decimating an entire battlefield, a nearby station and my framerate. Every race hated me after that but what were they going to do? Come into target range? Sadly empty sectors are only fun for so long and the big boy tended to also catch the loot in his aoe. But having that thing ready to jump in on my location and ruin some unlucky pirates or xenons day felt kinda nice. Didn't work well in a fleet though.

      'bout right in X4 as well. didn't like the teladi designs though, I mostly went split/terran for my fleet. there's a particular unique capital ship available that can be incredibly potent as a flagship as well, though you only get the one.
      the thing in X4 that seems most different to X3 to me is that there isn't a general "good at everything" weapon load out like the shockwave generators were in X3. capital ships can be good vs fighters or good vs other capital ships but it's hard to be both.

I found you from your first vids on ONI, then Songs of Syx and now x4. I really hope you do do guides for this game, it's INSANELY complex and that's coming from a former EVE online player of 11 solid years.
    Thanks for breaking it down so far, I know it's not worth giving them the game live, I'd be hopelessly lost without a few play throughs. But you were right from this video, the 'sunk cost fallacy' that many players feel is a good thing. Why restart endlessly and never get anywhere when you can learn and fix it. My only concern, does the universe actually grow/fight/contract with the enemy so that waiting a ton of time would be a bad thing? Or is it static enough that you could take a ton of time to learn in one universe without a ticking time bomb of enemies eventually going to wipe out the entire universe?

    I'm close to finishing up my first ONI - Spaced Out! play-through and gosh-darn-it, you made me buy the next time sink! After sinking way too many hours into the X-Universe, I purposefully did not buy X4, but you changed my mind... Anyway, I love your initial mind set to grab free loot while it is available to boot-strap your empire. I would have loved to see you continue this on the larger scale: everything has an opportunity cost. By going with an expensive, closed-loop setup for your mega factory, you try to leverage an advantage in this very complicated economy. I get it! But, if X4 is true to its predecessors, it will have unbalanced supply and demand and the story missions plus the time you need to do them lets the game evolve into a situation where overabundance and shortages become more obvious. Watching your factory grow in SETA will of course have a similar effect...
    For empire building, I usually start at the bottom and work my way up. As an example that might not work in X4 any more: You buy cheap food where it is overproduced, sell where it is in highest demand and build a food-factory there. When the factory is up to production, dump your food stock in its inventory and let the locals buy. Then you can add higher-tier production to an established food supply that you could make closed-loop if food becomes sparse. By supplying food to the AI, their factories begin to produce more stable and fill their inventory, which drives down component prices, so you repeat the process at the next scale... In X3 this used to be the only way to make highest tier goods available for purchase at all (without cheesing): helping the AI run their factories efficiently to be able to buy cheaply ;-P
    I'm still 9 episodes behind and look very much forward to how this game evolves around you...

    Yeah it takes so long to get up and running that the prospect of starting over is not that appealing. Compared to my game this is super early game. I have multiple mega factories capable of taking raw materials and producing every part needed for ships and then making all ships sizes in the same system as every factions SY so that I can sell ships to them directly. I also have purchased every blueprint from all the factions so I can build whatever I want.
    The galaxy is so much more alive compared to the start as the factions can easily resupply their ships so they can defend themselves and thus have over a dozen factories in most systems. Fleets of a few dozen fighters on patrols, dozens of trader ships going about, and an overall lively economy that I can watch as they battle each other and the Xenon while I pull in Billions.
    I'm pretty much working on completely terraforming all the planets and not simply doing the few terraforming items required to complete their quest. While the factories pump out the millions of resources needed for those quest I basically go around achievement hunting, data vault hunting, testing out new designs, pirate a ship for fun because +30 rep means I can hit a few of their ships and they still over +20 Allied with me though doesn't matter as I got all their BP.
    It's like I got hundreds of hours and the idea of starting from square one is daunting. And pretty much already at a point where I can do whatever I want, I could wipe out any faction or Xenon if I really wanted to but then I wouldn't have them fighting each of for loot drops. It's like if I wanna live pirate life style no need for full reset just make some different ship builds/loadouts and go pirating, wanna do a small carrier strike force I got carrier and aux ship with fighters and frigate support and dove into Xenon space to hit a few stations and test the designs.
    Basically the further you get the more of a sand box it becomes and you can do whatever you want. If you want restrictions you can simply self impose them without need for all the tedious getting off the ground work at the start.

  • @Salted_Fysh
    @Salted_Fysh 2 місяці тому

    I think the more important part of the Workforce calculation is the cost vs benefit analysis. Building the 5 Hull Parts factory will cost you circa 10m for 1.5m profit. Adding on the workforce modules and *all* of the associated production will only cost you about another 4 million but will boost your income by 1 million. So building a workforce onto a profitable factory is a lot more cost efficient and cheaper with significantly higher returns than building another factory doing the same thing.
    The main benefit of getting more factories vs focusing on workforce is build time. While you lose out on the benefit of a centralized workforce boosting all of your production for every step, you gain the advantage of being able to set up and upgrade a lot faster. Ultimately deciding between the two is just a question of how quick you are raking in the money/resources and whether you are able to stay ahead of the ability to add new modules.

    Modded X4 - Limitation on construction is no longer build time, but the massive blob of ships waiting to drop off because the build storage only has one L receptacle and 2 M/L receptables. You think 5500 Hull Parts is a lot? Try 1.8 million hull parts and 800k Claytronics haha.

  • @Killzad
    @Killzad Рік тому +3

    Getting Blueprint tips:
    1. Use space suit scan mode not the ship scan.
    2. Use EMP bombs.
    3. Your reputation with the faction that the station belongs matters, higher reputation more chances to get the blueprint with scan on the data leaks created without or with EMP.
    4. You can NOT obtain building modules actual ship building mobule only when you have the reputation +20 and need to pay for the blueprint so don;t go looking for those data leaks.
    To speed up building tips:
    1. Buy your own Builder, with 30 building drones on him is the max speed.
    2. Assign two fast traders on "trade for building storage" option.
    How to get freeish builder tips.
    1. Find a sector which has white xegaone which means it belongs to no one or it's Free Pirates zone, which means it has no police to stop you from what your going to do next.
    2. When you are set on the sector place a new plot for building on white sectors you don;t pay for permit since the sectors has no owner nor police, now where you place the plot is important somewhere there is no traffic no stations near by is better. Go little bit on the sides of the sector to avoid any unwanted traffic. Suggestion of mine is to go to Silent Witness XII find the KAX hive and send the builder to get beaten, by placeing the plot near the hive, when he is lower on hull points boarding will be easy 75% or lower hull will do. Dispatch the KAX so they don;t destroy him.
    3. You need to buy one of this Shuyaku Vangard or Sonra Vangard or Incarcatura Vangard - Freighter: this Freighters have the highest crew numbers others mite work too it depends on how many crew the builder has and it can have alot thats why i suggest one of those freighters, pay for one captain and all the rest marines on the freighter.
    4. Once your set and the Freighter is in place, set the constraction order and wait for the builder to come and start building. What you need to do is Pilot the Freighter yourself aim him to pass to just as near as possible below and behind the builder in travel mode.
    5. Save the game before attempt.
    6. Soon as you are in possition as near as possible to the builder Pause the game. Select the Freighter and then on the builder start the boarding, select all martines then set the bottom options to start each phace at "Very Strong" initiate the boarding. Unpause the game and fly away at a distance and wait. If you fail try again, each time the Builder will have less crew.
    If all done correct there won't be any reputation loss with the faction the builder belongs to, it can be done aswell in a sector that the builder faction is enemy to the sector owner Police will not give you reputation penalty but they mite get involved and shoot him down so avoid nearby traffic.

    Try starting as a Boron. The entire Boron space is in such a falling state, economy wise, that they produce barely anything and in my playthrough do not trade with any other faction. They are all too far and the closest ones are the hostile Split. The Boron start is basically a truck simulator because you will have to haul everything for them to be able to build anything. Order a ship, 100% chance the station is missing hull parts, turret components, engine components, weapon components or something else like water and it's up to you to provide those because Boron can't, for sure.
    In my current playthrough the entire Boron space has 1 claytronics factory which makes 112 claytronics per h so no wonder none of their stations are being built once the are placed.

    EMP bombs are great. But what I loved to do was to get really, really close to a Xenon capital ship from behind. The weak spot of a Xenon ship is about 30 degrees above and behind. it can't shoot you. below or anywhere else, and it's curtains. I digress. In my small, but fast ship, I'd get towed along by the huge Xenon's gravitational drag.
    I'd then pop outside my ship and when I was close enough to the Xenon, I'd chuck some 50 or so bombs on it. Proper bombs. Exploding bombs. Once that was done, back into my ship then drop back from the Xenon ship, and then detonate them all.
    That'll really piss the Xenon ship off unless it actually blows it up completely. If it's still alive. *R U N !* 8-))...
