- Today we start a new series, Floor's Music Corner! Over the years I have been receiving questions on how I remember certain songs, albums, performances and more! In this series I will sit down with you and share some of these invaluable experience and stories with you.
I hope you'll join me through this fascinating journey. The first video covers my first ever demo with After Forever - Topic! After Forever was the start of my career and Ephemeral is the demo that got us our first ever record deal and kickstarted our career! Crazy to sit down with Ephemeral and look back at all the stories and history associated with it.

Only going to Lapland with the kids just as they began to think Santa's wasn't real, only to meet him and to hear "I knew he was real really"
My 8yr old told me he knows Santa is real because parents would never lie to them for so long knowing how much it would hurt them to be lied to like that. No parent would do that on purpose so Santa is real.
Getting coffe capsules (3 to 5 packs) as a gift as a running gag from my former mother in law...for years! 😂😅

I wrote a poem for you Floor. After an illness in 2012, I had spent the next 9 yrs dealing with chronic illness related to my brain. I had no emotion left inside of me. Discovering you and Nightwish changed everything. I now see beauty in this world. I listen to you everyday.. It´s medicine for my soul. Thanks 🙂
The Flower
Alone on a mountain top.

A seemingly endless winter abruptly came to it´s end.
A flower voiced, your divine melody releasing me,

the sigh of an awakened soul.

Positivity, gratefulness and a certain sense of euphoria,
now surrounds me throughout my days.

I´m no longer frozen and distant,

and an inevitable affinity awaits.

Fun story! My uncle and I were talking about music and I described to him this bombastic metal that had classical vocals and the cover of the album having some sort of”Big Eye” (I was describing him Oceanborn by Nightwish btw) in it. He is a metalhead himself, so he went to his house and gave me his copy of Decipher because he had heard the music that sounded exactly like what I described to him and loved it and I was getting into gothic and symphonic metal (this was the early 2000’s btw) so happy about this “accident” I love AF and was one of the first metal bands I came to admire.

After Forever was in fact the very first concert I have been to. Loved every minute of it. It is so awesome to see how you have developed over the years! Amazing journey with heights and lows. But amazing all together. ❤

@@FloorJansenOfficial So it was form me. AF was my first ever concert i think it was in O13 🤔. This year i took my daughter (12 years) to AFAS for her first ever life concert (guess who we went to see 😁😁😂😂). For me that was e special moment. So thanks for that Floor.

Sadly I only discovered you relatively recently (yeah, I know...where have I been...?!😯), but I've been super impressed at how good this "bunch of teens" sounded. Prison of Desire is one of my favourite albums now...better late than never, right...?!
I would have never expected this video. On that demo version, there are two of my favourite After Forever songs: Tortuous Threnody and Black Tomb 🤩🤩🤩

After he found out that i was the first italian at an AF gig...ever .That was at Effenaar, kleine zaal,october 2000, opening for Within Temptation (few weeks before the release of Mother Earth but that's another story) 🙂

I loved hearing about this group of kids working so hard to make their dream come true and (as usual) you're able to make us feel the emotion when you tell the story. What a great video! Such a lovely place where you live. Looks cold indeed, but it looks so beautiful. I rather live in a cold but beautiful place like that than in a tropical place (also beautiful I am sure, but I just love Northern Europe ❤️).

Miss Floor is an incredible singer and person. She is like magic wherever she goes. I have met her once at a meet and greet and seen her in Nightwish twice. She is a very nice person.

@@jeffk1482 My wife and I shook hands with her and all of the band. We are going to see them again in May in Lowell Mass if they dont postpone it again. They have twice postponed this show. I dont think they do meet and greets anymore which is a shame.
@@TerryDrumCovers1951 Sometimes circumstances force you to do things you do not like. Let's all hope times change and what was normal can return. The band members really want to be in touch with their fans.

I am also going to Lowell Ma. to see them! I cannot wait I am so excited! Lol somehow I missed Nightwish until I was in my late 50s! I never thought they would come around where I would get to see them live.
Beautiful shot little video in the snow with Fenris, and horses, looks like very cozy with the fire in the background. The little pupper also emits warmth, like a living heat jar, so you both don't freeze. First i thought I missed a CD in from after forever in my collection, but is is not available, very curious about the sound in the very early days.

Well I was once very lucky to have been on owner of said Demo which had a handwritten note in it. It pains me that I had to sell my complete collection due to a financial issue. Had the complete discography of AF and remeber a show in Antwerp where you presented the "Invisible Circles" Album so it must have been March 2004. The sudden smmowfall made it less then packed but you guys performed great and had some encores for us. Watched you from the front row stage left. You were so kind when you mingled with the fans after the show for a chat, picture and autograph. I was in awe first by your voice afterwards with your presence and kindness. Not a christmas story but somehow snow related.

Es mejor que deje eso para sus shows en solitario, para que ella tenga mas contenido distintivo qué ofrecer en sus shows en solitario (como ha sucedido con el cover del fantasma de la ópera). Nightwish está espectacular tal y como está.

Black Tomb is one of the best After Forever songs ever.....it boggles my mind that was her first time on a mic 🎤 and to sound that incredible on these 4 songs ( ive heard demos on" prison of desire" ) is crazy !!!.

I know you probably wont ever see this, but i learned of your existence just a year ago, when i saw my first Nightwish video, "Ghost love score". To say i was impressed and moved is a understatement. What a lovely intelligent person and beautiful singer you are. I am always moved when i watch your vids, and i have to say, they have softened this old heart from all the bad things i have seen as a police officer and firemen. Thank you Floor, thank you for all your training and efforts. You have touched many lives in more ways than i think you can imagine.

My birthday is on December 24th so Back in 2006 I was about to turn 15 and I asked my mom to give me my present during October because After Forever was going to perform at the “Live n Louder” here in Mexico City, she agreed, bought the tickets and then 2 days before the concert I got the flu 😣 never get to see you with After Forever or ReVamp, but been your fan since 2004 😅 I was soo exited when I heard you were going to be Nightwish new singer and in October 2015 finally saw you on stage performing with my favorite band! Don't know why I got sick back then but It was worth the almost 10 years of waiting 🤭

I remember recording a demo, with my last band I was in before changing my career direction. I myself never went further in the music industry, but others in the band have. I remember asking one of them, who eventually played with more seasoned musicians and recorded on actual albums, how cool it must be. What he told me is that his best, fondest memory was when we recorded that demo. The excitement and the drive we had back then, I guess that's what stuck the most. And we were all very proud of it too. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Floor !! Wow !! A lot of memories came to my mind with this vid. The very first time I listened after forever was in 2002 or 2003, I was buying some metal music and the guy who was selling this stuff said to me something like “I received a new material, you really have to try this, it’s a kind of symphonic metal with a very good female vocals, their style is similar to nightwish, I think you have to test this band”…so they give me the Decipher Album. I bought it with some other records. When I arrived to my house, Decipher was the first record I checked that day and my mind just blowed away, I just fell in love with After Forever since then. I played that album everyday and I still have this record on my collection and it has a very special place in my heart. Some years later, for some reason, I had lost my interest to hear nightwish stuff, so when I noticed that Tarja left the band, I told my friends that it would be great if you would joined the band and I kept that hope, but Annette was selected (and she did a very nice work with the guys as well). When I knew that you will be part of nightwish, and when I saw you performing with them, it was just perfect, my mind was blowed away one more time, my dream come true …lol …so, since that day, I started to listening nightwish once again. Thank you floor for so many good moments you have given to us with your beautiful music. Greetings from Bogota Colombia 🇨🇴!!

That's one more reason to bring back After Forever to life....even for a short run of shows!!!!!
There's only one hypothetical good reason to bring it back to life : If they would all want to.
If that is to happen, it would be only in one big festival like Wacken Open Air as the members of After Forever are now in other bands. So for timing reason I believe that is the only way they can do that without causing any huge disruption, would be only in a festival where each of them are playing in their actual bands, and even doing some rehearsal would be tough anyway.

Up until 2/3 years ago, the holiday season was a very difficult season for me, really had to struggle through it every year (still is, be it a little bit less heavy now), so no funny Christmas stories from my side, but I'd love to hear some of yours!
Floor, After Forever made a huge impact on my life being one of the first metal bands that I ever listened to. It was passionate and dark and elegant, and a complete shock to my developing brain and spirit. It warms my heart that you share this with us. Can't wait for more trips down memory lane! . I miss After Forever so much 🥺😩 I grew up listening to you guys. You were literally my top 1 alongside with Epica. So much beautiful memories. I wish you would re-perform some AF songs or re-record some mastered. It would be so cool to see that band come together again.
And all recorded with a black camera😇. Lots of people found the demo on UA-cam and concluded the talent was there from the beginning. 'Ik zong vooral heel hoog'. Connecting the dots, i love it. Proud, proud, proud!
Love this new series Floor, and that is one serious fire you have there!! After a lifetime of Scottish winters, I now also have my wee studio in the garden with a wood burner and can absolutely relate to the joy of coming in from the cold, to a cosy bolt hole, with either a cup of tea or a wee dram. And now, too, I get to enjoy your wonderful stories!!!!

…then someone tried the phone number.
It was foggy in that cemetery. The kind of fog that would make you think November had forgotten to give way for Christmas. The heavy fog of no man's land, heavy with memories of summer and the long cold stretch of winter yet ahead. Grey. The greyness that eats all sense of time and space and that swallows sound. Dead heavy silence.
Undisturbed silence.
Undisturbed? He listened again. He had stopped moving, had stopped to pick up leaves from the gravel paths and putting it tin the wheelbarrow. He looked around, over the neatly laid out lines of graves, the meticulously clean marble plates with names and pictures and flowers that he would come to pick up too soon, before they would turn to compost. There it was again. "Drrriing!". He turned his head to make out the direction the noise was coming from. One of the very ancient crypt in the old part of the cemetery seemed to be the place. He decided to go and check. After walking three steps, he turned around and grabbed his leaf picker, a mere stick with a nail in one end, and et off again. Slowly, carefully and making no sound. "Drrriing!" The ringing continued. It got louder and brighter in sound as he approached the crypts. He had not noticed how he had gotten into a hunch, grabbing his picker like a soldier in a hostile forest grabs his gun, expecting death to come flying from all directions. He reached the crypt he had identified as the source of the noise. When it rang again, he found he was wrong. It wasn't this fairly well kept crypt of that rich family that still would put their members to rest here, not this clean, well built one, but a one opposite to it. Blackberry shrubs had taken over its place from outside the cemetery. A rusty iron fence with a way too heavily built gate denied the entrance. "Drrriing!"
He tried to push the gate open, but the blackberry tendrils held it firmly in their grip.
"Drrriing!"
He had gone too far to give up now, so he started to brake the tendrils with his picker. Levering them, twisting them until they broke. Several times thorns of the blackberries pierced through his skin very painfully, but this had to be investigated, he thought. No stopping!
After some fight he could move the gate, pushing all of his heavy strong body against it. With lots of resistance it opened bit by bit, giving only tiny squeaks from its hinges as if not willing to admit its efforts in resisting him. He was in. He returned to his sneaking posture and made the final few steps up the walkway to the crypt's door. Shadows from pines around the crypt's lot made the place dark and even colder and damper than the rest of the cemetery. Moss and lichen had covered almost all stone surfaces. In the surface of one of the lichen spots, he deciphered the words "After For". The second word might have gone on, but it vanished under moss. "Drrriing!" a metal door in the recess by a side of the building that was not really to distinct from the shrubs around it said.
He opened the metal door with his picker, carefully as a mine sweeper would probe for his work pieces. An ancient telephone showed up in the recess behind the door. Woodlice and centipedes ran for deeper shades as he did so.
"Drrriing!"
The cracked base of the telephone was of black bakelite. An odd rusted dialling apparatus was on its front, a decayed cord connected the handset to the base. All the cradle and metal parts were covered in verdigris, some remains of leather on the handset marked the position where the hand of the user was supposed to hold it.
"Drrriing!"
As he carefully picked up the handset, the arched scoop at the microphone side of the handset came of and shattered on the floor of the recess. The handset s,elt of forest and rott as he held it near his face.
"Herro! Herro? Herrrrro!!", he heard the shrill voice of a woman shout.
"He- hello?" he replied carefully, relaxing the grip on the picker.
"Herro! Who there?", the woman went on.
"Hello, this is Jones, the gardener speaking.". He calmed down.
"Herro mistah Garrdnah!" she said, now sounding doubly shrill. The speaker of the phone distorted under the impact of the sound. "This is Vellonica from Microsoft customah saavice speaking! Vee haff detected probrem with you Microsoft system!"
"Wh.. WHAT?", Jones replied. The picker dropped from his hand.
"You Microsoft system! Vee suspect you hacked! To prevent legal action, vee require you to forrow our instructions!"
"Oh you… Fu… No! NO YOU DID NOT!" Jones shouted in his coarse deep and loud voice and slammed the handset into the cradle. It shattered. The cradle shattered. The base of the phone burst into pieces. In the now exposed interior of the phone, tiny sparks danced between the wires.
Jones decided he had enough for today, slammed the metal door shut, picked up his leaf picker and went to the tool shed. He carelessly threw the picker into the mall wooden shed where it pierced a bucket of liquid fertilizer. "Skip the bucket, skip the wheelbarrow, skip everything!" he thought and went straight to the pub.
_Now_ the number no longer worked.

I cut my first demo in 2002. I was 25, and we recorded to analogue tape in a small studio over 2 days. It was complete garbage, and I could get infinitely better results on my home computer these days, but it was one of my favourite experiences.

Dearest Floor.
A cherished memory comes from 1993.
My family spent time in South Wales (UK), with my mum's sister and family.
My cousin was recovering from cancer....I hadn't seen him for years.
I'm not a religious person, but feel things.....on Xmas eve whilst in bed, a voice in my head said 'look out the window'.....I looked out, and it was snowing......the only White Christmas I've seen in all my 50 years of life.
On Xmas day.....my cousin and I watched Muppets Xmas Carol.....crying with laughter !!.
My cousin lost his fight in 2000, so that memory of 1993 is very special.
Sorry it's a bit dark, but a cherished memory.

I was going to ask why Fenris wasn't in front of the camera in the indoor scene but then it occurred to me that someone had to be behind the camera if any of the lights needed sitting on. :D
I love this new series idea! Very nice video! I've always been in complete admiration for people who can write music. I myself have never been able to do this, and for me people who can write music are real wizards. I love watching documentaries about musicians, filming from the studio and all that. Once I met a girl who was writing songs. She just had an acoustic guitar and her imagination. It was just amazing to see how she could compose a melody and lyrics in a couple of days. I was so impressed by her ability that I decided to become some sort of producer for her. I bought a microphone and an audio card for recording, I bought a good synthesizer. I really wanted her to develop in her art and I really wanted to be somehow involved in this world of music. But unfortunately nothing really worked out, we recorded a couple of home demos and then she switched to another kind of activity. Apparently I had more ambitions than hers. But then I was able to observe all this magic of making music.
We have the same mugs! 😅
They were a wedding present from our Finnish friends.
