I changed mine today. I was surprised how fast the fluid temp went up. (Air temp was about 50f) I would suggest getting a cheap scanner so you drain at the proper temp.
Great job Ali- great way to keep the transmission running for a long time. If you just measured out used trans fluid and put in exactly the same amount (assuming no leaks) would you still recommend drainage of the overflow?
How did you check the temperature of the oil before opening the drain plug to let out the overflow oil? What did you use to spray and clean the oil that was on the transmission?
When we drain the transmission oil, should we drain it with the cold engine or warm up the engine first? Also, when we drain the overflow, should the car be started while draining or turn it off?
Hi Ali, thanks a lot, this was a helpful video and I followed it to change the fluid today. I lost the 10mm hex bolts and the gasket on the 24mm fill bolt. Can you please help me by refering to these part numbers? I am having a tough time finding them on toyota parts website

Yeah it needs to be between 104°F - 113°F when you drain the overflow fluid. If the temp is lower than this range, you'll drain too little, if it's higher, you'll drain too much.
It really depends on the condition of the old fluid inside the transmission. If it is extremely burnt and black, there could be a risk that the fresh fluid may cause the transmission clutches to slip, as they may already be in poor shape. Personally I would take the risk and just drain the sump and refill as per the video, and not use a flushing machine. If the transmission fails, it was already on borrowed time. Only use genuine Toyota fluid, not a cheap alternative.

Great video, thanks. I am somewhat confused. If you take out only 2 quarts, why not only put 2 quarts back in rather than putting 2 quarts back in and having to drain the extra 1/2 quart? Thank you.
You don't know if the last tech changing the trans fluid put back in the spec amount for the entire system overfilling it. It may have way to much in it right now causing increased pressure when warm without enough room for heat expansion. You want it to be warmed up and the car to be level so it will overflow the right amount. This also checks if you did not add enough none will come out so you know your low.

This is a great video thanks I am a new subscriber to your channel I have 2 questions. Is this process called drain and fill or flush? How much transmission fluid does the Camry 2013 le need ? I appreciate your answers
I own a Toyota RAV4 from 2015, and it has accumulated 150,000 miles. Surprisingly, the transmission fluid is still original. At 160,000 miles, I did transmission flush at the Toyota dealership, and now it’s at 200,000 miles. Remarkably, the transmission is still in excellent condition. My friend, who worked at the Toyota dealership, advised me to only have the transmission flushed at the dealership because they have the specialized equipment to perform the procedure correctly and without causing any damage to the transmission. He warned me that using other shops for this service could potentially lead to issues. Since the transmission flush at the Toyota dealership, my car has been running exceptionally well, as if it were brand new. Now, I can confidently expect my car to last up to 300,000 miles before I need to consider replacing it.
I did everything and went to drain it after i filled it back-up and more came out than should have. So I went to remove the yellow straw and the allen part of it was stripped. So odd, cause i put back in, hand tight. So now I’m screwed.
Can you drain the overfill with the engine off? Or does the engine need to be running before removing the drain plug? I removed the drain plug and turned on my car not sure if it’s the other way around
Engine must be running when draining off the excess. If the engine is switched off, too much fluid will be drained and the transmission will be effectively underfilled. Driving with low transmission fluid will be bad for the transmission.
Hey Ali! Great video. I recently purchased the vehicle at 109k miles and I am not sure if they ever changed the fluid. Is a drain and refill still recommended?
Its not actually a filter but just a mesh screen. Not worth changing. Just do the fluid change unless the transmission has extremely burnt fluid. In which case, you will have transmission dramas in the near term.
My 15 Camry is 100K mileage and the transmission oil hasn't been changed. Is it too late to change? or still should change it? Because I heard something about if it were to change, it could result in more problem.
At 100k you should remove pan to clean magnets and change pan gasket & transmission filter also. Only around half the fluid comes out whether you use drain plug or drop pan.
hey alimech i bought my car new with 3 miles on it and have never gotten my transmission changed its 96,226 mileage right now when should i get it changed Ali ?
Kernelbadness is right, do this procedure 2 times, because only half of the fluid will be changed and then mixes with other, after doing this oil flush take the car for a ride and then come back do it again, so you replace about 6 litters of fluid
No you should never add a gallon because you're not draining a gallon. You need to measure what came out and add only a half a quart more than what came out. Start the car warm it up shift the gears. Taken for a short drive and then while it's still running remove the drain plug and whatever excess overflow will come out shouldn't be much. Put the plug back in that's it.
Its never to late to change it your just gonna have to do a few changes more often till the fluid ie clear. When you chnage the oil you dont get all the fluid out some of it stays in the torque converter.
