It’s too bad elderly ex-kings can’t just spend their last years retiring in the troop they used to run. Rather than the inevitable struggle to survive and death they will eventually face on their own as an old monkey. I know it was an exception, but didn’t they let Skullhead hang around long after his decline?

I would imagine it’s the inability for the new Kings to trust a recently deposed King from making a comeback….as unlikely as that would be seeing as they normally get deposed once they are in advanced physical deterioration.

Those guys were lucky that they happened to be feeding the Matriarch's family first and foremost. If they chose to start handing out food to someone else they could've accidentally started a scuffle.

I wish the tourists wouldn't hand feed them like that. One day they could approach the wrong person and end up getting hurt or killed. Not every stranger has benevolent intentions toward them. It would be better if they remained more cautious around humans.

SOFT FOODS for Leo!! Remember, his teeth and digestive system is old too and he needs help with foods he can chew and digest easily. Beans and peanuts, soaked in warm salt water overnight, then drained, rinsed and dried well on paper towels. Also Partially baked carrots, turnips, and potatoes, both sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. Heat in the oven at 350 Fahrenheit Just long enough to heat them through, to soften them a bit for his old teeth and digestive system to absorb properly.
I don't think that poor old fella will make it through another winter, if he gets that far. How awful.😢

So it seems that Leo wasn't the only adult male ousted from Lowina's troop. No wonder the troop is so skittish and on the defense right now, Lowina is losing power due to her age and Fozzi is only just starting to flex her power and isn't quite Matriarch yet (as far as we know). They are lacking leadership on both fronts.
I love this channel!!! It brings out all sorts of emotions. Nothing sugar coated or added drama. Just super good stories from AM at Monkey Hill.AM has a wonderful gift in that he can relate to the Monkeys and educate as welll as entertain us monkeys!
Maybe he went by the construction zone after they painted.

Yes, I think of the "cement gravel" which they have put out to repair some of the storm damage from past autumn. How it happened upon his nose, though?🤔
It’s awful that Leo is being ousted at a time he needs the support of his family and troop.
He’s being thrown out like garbage. I truly love these animals, but, I just don’t understand this.
I am afraid it is Monkey Politics. Remember that the Alpha male is a target for other males and if deposed they take over the troop. I suspect and IMHO the older the alpha male gets the more frail it gets it cannot hold its own in a fight. Also remember these males have four, 2 inch 5 cm Canines, which they use to defend themselves with and can and do suffer horrendous injuries, in any fights that take place. Similar things happen with Lions, when their alpha male is defeated. Then the incoming new male goes on a systematic killing spree of all the cubs fathered by the now deposed male. This is called Infanticide. It forces the females in the troop, back on heat again ready to mate again. I have not heard of this happening with the Rhesus Monkeys on Monkey Hill. Interestingly, the survival rate of lion cubs in the savanna was quoted recently in a nature programme here on DTV in the UK as being 12%. Comparing this with the survival rate of monkeys of 80% in the first 6 months.

@@hollisblinn7910 He always has nice videos. Never heard a lens motor like that. Sounds like he should move the microphone away from the lens. I really thought since I hadn't watched his videos in a while that maybe he got a new remote control car with a camera on it. :)

I'm not thrilled about those visitors either, teasing the monkeys but offering little food. They may not realize what they are doing if they don't really know much about macaques.
Those visitors have nothing to do with the videographer though. AM loves the monkeys and never teases or mistreats them in any way at all. He's got a big heart for them and gives much more than he receives.

I don't know when it was filmed but one of the videos showing white noses was the episode called Il trittico - 3 Lil acts uploaded 20210306 so it was probably filmed in 2020.

So, I think I solved it (already 🤭 as I suggested in another comment). I opened that episode and not even a minute in - there they are on those cement/concrete rocks (they apparently used it for repairs also before). Bessy is sitting there with that white stuff on her face, and it dawned on me that they get those impressions onto their faces from laying down during grooming!?
I don't think it's food, or they would try to clean it off, or someone else would try to get it off them, and especially from the youngsters!
What do y'all think!?

Good job! I first thought it was paint before I thought it was sap because more than one had it in their faces. Now I think you're right. Getting it while being groomed is the most logical explanation but maybe they eat it too (licking it and licking it makes it wet). I know I'm gripping but they do practising geophagia and it could be something in the cement/concrete they're after. It could even be salt.

Makes me wonder what would have happened if Mr. AM hadn’t been there filming. With as many “pet” monkey channels there are in Cambodia and Indonesia that are making big bucks, I wonder if they weren’t hoping to grab a baby.
@@gsmith6026 there babies are not easy to grab. The entire troop would descent on them and they have long canines. These animals are wild.

They appear to be visitors taking a break to look at and interact with the monkeys. Not everything is sinister. I don't like that they were essentially teasing the monkeys but they might not know they're doing that. A lot of people know very little about monkeys.

It's not clickbait at all, cataracts cause vision loss and he has quite a large one. You must not know much about AM and you sure lack gratitude.
