- 👋 In todays head to head comparison, we take a look at the 2024 BMW X3M Competition and the 2024 Audi SQ5! These are both the top trims levels for their models and have a lot to offer!
The BMW X3M Competition is an incredibly performance oriented SUV! It is on the smaller size for the SUV lineup from BMW, but it still large enough for passengers and storage! This is a vehicle that you are seeking because you want the power and performance along with how daily driver friendly it is!
The 2024 Audi SQ5 for the same price, doesn't have the same performance! It's still performance oriented, but definitely toned down compared to the BMW! The Audi has a great ride, perfect for daily driving and still has plenty of space!
Both the BMW X3 M Competition and Audi SQ5 can tow too, so if you have smaller trailers, you can still use the SUV for purposes like that.
The exterior styling for both luxury focused SUV's are nice! They are very different, but do share some similar characteristics!
The interior styling and features are slightly different, and both would be great to choose!
The BMW X3 and Audi SQ5 each have positives and negatives, but the negatives aren't enough to not buy them. Just comes down to a personal preference.
It is crazy to see that this Audi SQ5 costs the same as the BMW X3M Competition and there's no competition between the two when it comes to the performance and power. Everything else is similar and comparable, but if you want true performance from your SUV, that win goes to the BMW!

These are almost hatchbacks right? They look tiny. Edit: It is just a tad bigger than my Equinox which is a good size for me. These just look squattier in the video.
Think the right comp is sq5 versus x3 40?
I’ve never seen that trim in person, but these were identical in price, so showing what you can buy for the same cost.

I mean Audi is clean but the Xm3 comp is hard not to pick. At their respective price, the X5M and X3M are king at and around their price

I just moved from a 2020 X3MC (and loved it but did not want to renew the warranty for 5k) into a 2024 SQ5. First, the X3MC in the video is more like 90k MSRP, not 76k. The X3MC is an amazing SUV that moves and handles like a M4, this thing has more power than anyone has any right to, but I used it as a daily, home depot, park in the city and it would blow the doors off just about anything on the road (I had it during covid when the roads were empty and I know). However in my mind the SQ5 felt like a total downgrade, not true, it is more of a rational compromise. So much more comfortable to live with. It is still plenty fast, and handles almost as tight as the BMW. The downsides of the SQ5 are 1. It is considerably smaller, back seat and cargo, and 2. The storage in the front is lacking, door pocks, phone holder and so on. So from someone who truly loves the two examples of a zero compromise mid SUV, I would say if you care about being King of the road and want to spend 14k more go for the X3MC it will put a smile on your face and a pain in your butt. If you are more understated and a bit older go for the SQ5 and take your family to Hawaii for a week, you will not be disappointed.:-)
I said they start there, but it wasn’t even close to $90K based on what the window sticker said..thanks for sharing experience with them, can’t really go wrong with either.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Wonder, was BMW striped? Everyone is saying the same thing and I priced them out two weeks ago, X3MC loaded is 90k, SQ5 Prestige loaded is about 76k. If we are talking base price for each (Audi SQ5 is 57k and BMW X3M (not even the C) 75k). Everyone knows they in slightly different price ranges. Window stickers would help clear up the confusion. Perhaps the X3MC had zero options and the Audi was loaded? My X3MC was 84k in 2020 (most options) my SQ5 PP with almost all options was 75k. You pulled me into the rabbit hole! Great review it's the real world, I just lived it, I would have stuck with the "top mid SUV from Audi and BMW" and people would get it (Audi has a gap with no RSQ5). I think the point is... and the adivce I would give is.... They ARE comparable and it is the same person who would buy either. The BMW is Metallica, and the Audi is Steely Dan :-) Thanks again you did a great job, more content, please!
@@llotsdc2209 I said that too lol, the Audi had the $9K prestige package and the bmw didn’t have many options. Either way, all models are great just depending on what the buyer wants out of the car! Thanks for your comments on this!
I was between an X3M40i and SQ5. I went with the SQ5, it’s a 2020 and so fun. Only thing I don’t like is the infotainment but there are so many positives that counteract it
OH nice! Audi does have a bit nicer use of materials. So both have some good options

At the RS3 price, its much more performance focused and fun to drive then the IS500 and M340i. The M3 all day is better and more fun, but the Comp costs $25,000 more. So not a car we were looking to buy. I have an M2 vs RS3 video coming soon. I personally like the m2 better since it's a coupe and has a manual. But the RS3 is my wife's car and she loves AWD and the DCT. Plus the more practical sedan layout works for her taste. So it depends on your needs. But the RS3 is a little rocket of a car and a blast to just rip on!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Audi Quattro is no joke epically since i went from a big 3 row suv (MDX) that weighs so much more to a smaller suv (SQ5) it feels like a pocket rocket. To think it gets faster and faster is mind boggling to be. A ride in a lambo and other supercars is my end goal just to feel the power and adrenaline rush.
how's the fuel economy?
I have a 2023 SQ5, I chose it over a X3M purely because of the pricing. I got mine in a premium plus @ $65k. It's practically fully optioned except for a HUD. Black optics, 21" wheels with sport calipers, sports exhaust plus all the driver's assists and heated and ventilated everything. You will not find that pricing in California for an 2023 X3M anywhere. Trust me, I've tried. You are more likely to pay $85k and up for one similarly optioned.
Surely this is an unfair comparison, shouldn't it have been the Audi RSQ5 V BMW X3 Competition.
Yeah performance wise these are not competitors. But crazy how a base X3M can cost the same as a loaded SQ5.

i have the x3m, its awesome, was going to tune, but decided not too, will keep it original and stock. very fast already often exceed 250kmh no problem, love it. 2020 is nicest model inside and out in my opinion. much faster than sq5

I agree the 2020 was the best year, better looking better dash. If you're looking, check out Audi Marin you will find my perfectly driven perfectly loved black on black, with 42k miles for 50k. :-)

Why? Both cost the same. I’ve never seen an M40i to use, but that would cost less.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed like someone said, just because they are both kind of close in terms of price doesn’t mean they are direct competitors. The M40i is a direct competitor to the SQ5 and the M40i is easily better. It’s like comparing a high spec c43 to a m3 comp, we all know what’s better.
@@felix_28 our dealer hasn’t had an M40i in the 5 years I’ve filmed, not a popular model to get. People either buy an xdrive or the comp.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed really? I’m not sure where you are but where I am I see a ton of M40i, including my dads. BMW has definitely sold a lot of M40i models, at least the 2019 ones. A lot of people say the M40i is the perfect middle ground if you want something fun but not too stiff.

Yeah obviously. However a fully loaded SQ5 cost the same as a basic X3 M. Crazy to see the price overlap. Audi needs an RS Q5 one day!
This is not even the same league, it would have to be a rsq and even still would loose.

The SQ5 is probably more comparable with the M40I.
It is powerwise, but as I mentioned these are nearly the same price. I've also never seen an X3 M40i in six years filming at this dealership. It's either a comp or 4cyl.

Because they cost the same…I’ve also never seen an X3 M40 in the six years I’ve been filming at this dealer. They are either xdrive or the comp.

The X3 M starts at $75K and the SQ5 starts at $58K and the X3 M40i starts at $62K and the M40i is definitely a better match to the SQ5’s 249 hp to the M40i’s 382 hp, because the M has 473 hp to 503 hp. I’m in California and X3’s are hard to keep on the lot. My M40i with all the taxes included topped off at $80K. I just read one about an XT4 vs a GLC…ridiculous. I will still continue to view your videos because I’m a car enthusiast, and I’ll never stop making corrections when I see something incorrect.

MSRPs in this video, I talked about that. I also mentioned how these two specific models were close in price, that’s true..both are the top trim levels as well, so showcasing the top levels and what you get.

This is not an even comparison. The SQ5 and X3 M40 are equivalent. If Audi made an RSQ5 then it would match the X3 M.
