Speaking specifically about Defying Gravity, the lyrics are self-explanatory! Yet in these interviews they're over-explaining things to the point it loses its magic and impact.
@@AlexBeunker I'm holding space for your powerful, pivotal, out of body, moment. I'm looking at everyone looking at you and it's just beautiful and loving - you have glittery stars surrounding you!

Just so you know guys, "Holding space" is a psychology concept meaning towards creating a safe space for someone or something by being present for them, physically, emotionally and mentally without judgement. XD
I still wonder why Cynthia said "that's what I wanted" in response to hearing people connect emotionally to the lyrics of defying gravity. Like she was the one who wrote the lyrics😭
I guess as a singer your aim is to properly communicate and convey the emotions written and maybe she was thinking “Cool! It worked, that’s what I wanted” 😂 The pacing and live reactions in this interview are really funny tho
The holding space clip doesn't seem quite so strange in context. But the actresses do seem a little confused, and the interviewer does seem a little nervous or something.
I feel like the meme cuts are unfair to them. It's a lot less baffling when you have the rest of the sentence and interactions. It's still a vague question but "holding space" is not an uncommon phrase in queer spaces at all people have been using it for well over a decade. It's not related to "safe spaces." Another way to phrase it might be "setting aside time" or "taking a moment." Maybe I'd "translate" the question as "A lot of people have been using Defying Gravity to create a moment for themselves that feels empowering."
The whole PR tour for this movie has been so strange. These two have actually put me off wanting to even see the movie. They behave so strangely and look so unwell!
The movie is so good! I do recommend you give it a try. Also, what's wrong with emotion these days? Are people so out of touch with others that human connection freaks them out?
Ngl, the awkwardness of the “holding space” moment is mostly on Cynthia. All she had to do was use context clues to understand what the interviewer was getting at. Her response is so bizarre. 😂 I’m with Ariana on this. I would’ve felt like I completely missed what happened between the two. lmaooo
They should all be holding a very big space for a sense of humour and perspective. What a load of earnest crap. "People really love that song in the film". "Oh thanks, that's great." Next question.
Im intrigued on the confusing beautiful spirit I feel while listening and watching this interview. A lot of asmr vibes, lots of hand gestures and nothing scripted, plus heavy eye contact and physical touch. Personally I’m concerned if I watch this it may encourage my almost dormant eating disorder. Media has triggered this for me before and I remember this type of feeling before precedented the actions afterward.
I don’t understand why people are being so dramatic about this interview. The question was vague and clearly lost in translation. These roles have been life changing for both actresses so I can understand why they get emotional. And if you’ve ever been around theatre kids, they love the dramatics. Why are y’all having such a visceral, angry reaction to an interview. Like??
Why are they holding the chairs like they are gonna fly out of them? And its all they can do to keep their hands off each other? Meaning they have to grab on to the others hands bc the interview is so scary..? Imo
