Ripping around for six hours with that backpack can’t help the lower back. Get some Progressive springs for the forks. I raced XR600’s for years in the NETRA series, then an ‘85 XR350r, and had a blast. The 600’s were like rolling easy chairs.the suspension can be made to work really well, just ask Scott Summers. I race a ‘19 CRF250, and a ‘95 CR250r in the JDay Offroad series, super senior class. But miss my XR’s. I get to relive it a little watching your videos. Definitely an acquired taste, but once you figure them out, they are capable as hell, and a blast to ride. Keep digging. C442
Long live the XRs . I miss those days. Now with a messed up back and neck. I should take my 650L out there with my paniers on show you how it's done. Show you how to pitch a tent set up camp pretty fast. I can carry food . I can stop have a snack . I could make that entire race last a couple days . Great video I enjoy watching the XRs still rocking . RIDE ON .
I competivily raced hare scrambles and gncc in youth and amature intermediate for several years in the 90s on an XR 600. originally found your channel becuase of the bike your riding. But after watching you ride, how clean and fast you ride that bike. Which I know how taxing it can be. But I really enjoy you showing everybody the real life of a privateer rider! It's all grind!
Nice one. Rear bearing loose is a commen problem. I have a thin strip of steel around my bearing om my XR as there is not enough material to lathe out in put in an insert. New hub or hack fix. A feeler gauge blade works. Open up the airbox with some 1" vents with foam and filter oil. Love it, keep at it!
9 gallons of fuel! Wow! I actually thought back on my 24hr Ironman days while I was doing a desert race in NV this past Saturday - and was happy that I only had to race for three-ish hours. I appreciate you doing this series, I find it very interesting on multiple levels.
Hey Gabe. Instead of maxi pad for the front forks. use"pig mat" google it. You can buy material that repels water and only obsorbs oils. I believe it's the gray kind. And they are super obsorbant.
I wore out mine as well. What a opportunity to make a 670 cc big cam big carb ported machine. I build a race prepped balanced 670 . Serious head mods done by a pro . It's run down my friends ktm 450 to his surprise . Drum brake as well . I powder coated it , everything I could . I loved it , massaged it and now it loves me every terrifying ride
Was good seeing you out there again! Unfortunately we had front flat issues as well. We were 6 seconds off first, I hopped on the bike and got a flat on the back straight. Had to pull in and replace it and fell back to 5th. Then fought back for a 3rd place finish. Bummed! But hey thats racing.
I saw it! Top engine mount bolt! Have you considered a flex bar or mako 360 type bar to assist with your elbow issues... I know those are a splurge $$$ wise, but might be the one thing you need for those really long races, and can then move to other bikes. Love the videos!
The best desert bike I have ever owned a 1992 Honda xr600r! It smoothed out rough trails and made novice riders pros! Case in point in 1992 I entered a Granprix in Arizona, started on the last row finished 3rd overall lapping my entire class four times. All on a Honda xr600r
Great to see the XR doing what is was engineered to do. Not stop. I am eager to see you improvement's, one small thing to be aware of. They do start to crack at the top shock mount. It is quit common on bike's that are jumped excessively. And if possible, get a oil cooler for the engine. An xr400 does wonder's..
Best smile machine ever. At 56 y/o my body says `Nope` to MX tracks :( . So converted her to a street hooning supermoto :) Good content. Keep the faith.

I think I have watched this video 3 different times, just notices the missing engine mount bolt. I once found my sub frame top bolt missing the night before a race and I kid you not the first thing I said "oh that is why my bike felt creaky" a quick raid of the bolt box, and we were off to the races.
Dollar for dollar you would be hard pressed to find a bike that gave more shits and grins than an XR600.....great bike. Honda fucked up royally when they discontinued the XR line-up.
bowlers USE a product called "court plasters". It's basically like fiberglass for skin. you daub some of the liquid on the blister then apply a the little cloth patch, then more liquid. When it dries it's pretty danged hard and protects against skin damage. you could use that BEFORE the damage is done
I look forward to seeing what you do with the suspension. Up the nitrogen pressure, change the oil levels, stiffer springs, or modifying the existing springs to stiffen them up????

My exhaust on my 250x started leaking and I didn’t have enough money to but a new gasket for it ( I was like 12 ) but I did find a small block Chevy header gasket in the shop so I cut it up and used it. It’s been holding up pretty good so far and I’m 17 now
It looks like the muffler gasket and band clamp bolts are available still. The intake tube or whatever you want to call it isn't... But i wonder if 650L parts would work...

You NEED to read the Big Book of Endurance Training by Philip Maffatone. Life changing info in there for just this type of race. I applied its teaching when I was on a hotshot crew and it was night and day difference from the years before.
I also lost my plate after a day on my XR650R. lol It was a dual sport ride with a bunch of single track and when i got home i realized i no longer had a plate. lmao
