Sorry but if you travel in the right time at 2:20, you going to see lots of cereals/grains there (i bet you film in Alentejo or Algarve). I remember read that in Alentejo alone they had almost 200.000 ha to produce all type of cereals there almost 75% of Portugal needs in cereals (except corn).

The problem there might be with falling population unemployment migration. Maybe if indian population decrease after 50 years we can see similar situation in india deserted places decaying building no humans

It's literally top to bottom of Portugal and e got all major cities and secondary cities in the route. Portugal's birth rates have been dropping for decades. it is predicted that by 2050 the population will be around 6 million. so we'll see more and more abandoned villages....unless something changes.
