    Grant, for the copper casting when you are melting the copper and it becomes molten add some borax that will help it cast better. Also add baby powder to the sand so then the copper and sand won't stick together

    • @FrostyIcarus
      @FrostyIcarus 7 років тому +5

      the problem with that is that you would need a way to focus the light and make it come in from a different direction, very high quality mirrors. Also, he would need to wear something that could resist 3000 degrees, which is only a space suit, and those don't even work.

    Can you ignite gasoline with candy?
    When my brother and I were kids we would go into a dark closet and watch each other bite mint candies (mint lifesavers, icebreakers, etc). It would create a blue spark. I later learn this was called triboluminescence. So, I'm wondering if this spark is enough to ignite a fuel source. This could be useful in a survival situation or as a camping hack.

    • @wonjez3982
      @wonjez3982 7 років тому +2

      you already answered your question, if u can contain the "spark" in your mouth, its far to weak to ignite anything. luminescence is basically light emission, so theres only a flash with very little energy. interesting story though xd

    • @faded.0913
      @faded.0913 7 років тому +2

      Dominic Mendoza no you dingus. Pour the gas into a container like a metal pan an place the candy in it and hammer it

    • @EricSchwartz02
      @EricSchwartz02 7 років тому

      Dominic Mendoza I was thinking something like hit the candy with a hammer or a rock. You get the same result.

    • @EricSchwartz02
      @EricSchwartz02 7 років тому +3

      woe eyn Not necessarily. Magician and flame eaters are able to hold flames in there mouth, and those flames would be enough to ignite gasoline. Heck, even on Grant's Instagram he has a picture of his son holding flames in his hands and not being hurt. A static spark from your finger is enough to ignite gas fumes (the real culprit to the no cell phone at a gas pump myth), so why not the spark from Triboluminescence.

    • @EricSchwartz02
      @EricSchwartz02 7 років тому +1

      Quinlan Black Ok...but doesn't all light produce heat energy? Even fluorescent light produces heat energy; it's just such a small amount that it's barely noticeable to the human touch. So, this brings me back to my original question - does triboluminescence produce enough heat energy to ignite gasoline (or some other fuel source for that matter).

      well, the scorcher can preheat the mold and help to keep the copper fluid longer for a full casting. I think the reason copper is such a challenge is how close you are heating to the melting point of copper.. it cools before below the line before you have time to cast. the scorcher would be a great idea for the mold. another suggestion would be to research a dope for the green same that will increase it's resiliency. I assure you that this is will documented somewhere.

    I'm not sure about casting the metal, but there's a process called exothermic welding where you take two pieces of metal and push them together, wrap them in a metal with a lower melting point, and form a little crucible around it with special clay. You then add thermite around the melting metal and light it to permanently fuse the two pieces.

    I tried to cast a mold with iron using thermite in 4th grade and what you need to watch out for is oxidation. When I first did it I did it the same way except I lit it off with magnesium. The second time I did it though I made a closed container with the mold in the base as to not let any oxygen in and it did make a nice solid nugget of iron with the mold in it and it mostly solved the oxidation problem.

      Harley Large would melt a solar panel, but there is a method of solar power collection method that uses a bunch of mirrors focused on a central tower, so you could generate power with this, it just wouldn't be a solar panel

    • @DarthObscurity
      @DarthObscurity 7 років тому +2

      You absolutely could use it to increase a panels power, but you'd have to put the panel closer than the focal point so that it DOESN'T melt.

    • @darkySp
      @darkySp 7 років тому +1

      Actually, that isn't really the case.
      See, they're not really "producing" the heat, they just focus it and physics do the rest.
      They won't normally melt, because the sunlight is dispersed all over it, and then they just focus it in 1 spot.
      If you get another Solar Scorcher and focus it onto another one, it won't melt, probably, because it'll either re-focus it, or disperse it, depending on which side you focus the light beam in.
      Not really sure about this, though, it's just how i feel about it
