  • SMC Laguna 36" ceiling fan in brown/polished brass. I've been meaning to get back to this fan for a very long time. After the original video, I really wasn't sure what to do with it. It appears to have been NIB before I got it, so it was in mostly good shape, but the switch housing was shattered off of the shaft coupling and of course the original slide-up canopy was missing. It's sat around as parts for a long time. A few years ago, I parted out a newer SMC U52 (I think that's what it was, can't remember for sure) from Cleanup Week, which used a full stamped non-detachable switch housing. I ended up chopping off the bottom, and using just the top shaft coupling portion to reattach the original switch housing with a couple screws and new tapped holes on the top side. It's not exactly pretty, but you can't really see it and it got the job done. Then at one point I found a trashed white later Laguna, and decided I'd use the downrod and canopy for this. I've had these parts sitting on my workbench waiting for paint probably 2+ years and just always had more pressing things. Well, lately I've been doing some painting and decided while I'm doing that stuff, I might as well get these in the mix and finally got them done. It's not a perfect-perfect finish match, I just used a can of brown I already had on hand and didn't go out of my way to make it immaculate, but again it got the job done and overall it's a cohesive, functional fan once again using all SMC parts that maintain the right vibe. Nothing about it will ever be quite perfect, but it's a pretty solid runner and I'm happy with the result.
PS: I do not know WHAT was going on with the power while filming this video that caused all the drops in lighting near the middle. It was super annoying but actually doesn't show up too badly on camera, you kind of have to be looking for it. But either way, I needed to get this video done and didn't know how long it would last / if the same thing would happen again doing a new take, so I just kept recording. 🤷‍♂️

I LOVE "spinner" fans, and I've always been a fan of the "restaurant low" speed in any ceiling fan (no pun intended).

Maybe that's the same speed as the toastmaster

Nary a wobble at those insane high speeds... Impressive... But that click to turn it on is embarrassingly Loud....
    Beautiful fan though.

Would be nice, but there are too many wild cards in mounting systems to make it actually feasible.
