Be thankful you can wear your British lab out playing fetch for 10 min or so. That’s just a warm up for these American field labs.
I just finished watching through this series and man do I have to say thank you. I am getting a puppy here in a few weeks and these videos have gave me a lot of good insight on where to start (first time training a duck dog). Also, always great to see other California duck hunters on youtube!
Thanks and good luck!
I don’t understand why your Channel doesn’t have 100k
Appreciate that! Hopefully 1 day!
I am getting my first lab here in about 2 weeks and cant wait. I have literally binged watched your videos! Great insight. Thank you
Good luck thanks!
Heck yeah man! He’s looking good! Keep it up. Got my pup retrieving bumpers from his blind. Keep those barrels hot! Good luck this season and stay safe.
Thanks man! Good luck to you too!
These are great videos I wish this series of videos were out when I was training my lab. I still enjoy watching and learning different techniques. Keep it up
Thanks. I appreciate that!
Thanks for the videos bud! I've got an 11mnth old and some things I'm a little bit of a loss with some stuff and these videos are really helping me out. So appreciative
Glad to hear that! Good luck. Chris Akin is an awesome teacher.
Thank you for the videos. I just got my 1 yr old black lab back from the trainer and it is nice to see some drills that i can do at my local park. One more week to go!
Good luck with your lab and good luck with this duck season! May your straps be full
Can’t wait to use all the knowledge from you in this videos to train my 9 week lab I got a few days ago!
Good luck. We also have a new training series that’s even better
Great vids with the dog man I love em keep it up 👌🏻💯💯💯
Thank you appreciate! Will do
Love these videos
When doing retrieves singles or doubles always line your dog up in the direction of the bird or bumper. Make sure you tell your dog "here" and have him turn and line him up on the retrieve which should be the same as your body. This will help as you get longer retrieves and blind retrieves.
I love your videos and appreciate that I can watch someone go through the process with the dog over time. only videos on youtube like this. I will be getting my silver Lab from the breeder in November and have ordered Chris' videos because of you. thanks for putting in the effort and time sharing your process and progress. I cant wait to start the process of growing a hunting buddy. Just started duck season over here in Washington and look forward to hunting the olympic peninsula with a dog next season. thanks for your videos. have you hunted with Rocky yet now that your season has started? will we see another video soon?
Appreciate all the kind words! And thanks for following along on our journey. That’s cool you’re getting a silver those are super cool looking dogs. He did go on his first hunt yesterday and I’m trying to get the video up by Monday morn. He did good for being only 11 months but he still has a long way to go. As you know there are so many variables when hunting.
Looking good bro. That's a lot of work right there... Paying off though. Good stuff!
Thanks. It def takes time but it is paying for sure. It’s fun too
Rocky is doing great..All of your hard work will pay off this weekend..Good luck opening weekend ours started last weekend.
Yes it will payoff. Ours starts next weekend. How’d you do opener?
8 wood ducks and 2 mallards
Right on
I used the sport and field #2 shot and they worked well..The weather here is still warm needs to cool down some
Ya it’s fairly warm here too
Awesome dog. You got an awesome duck dog
Thanks Matt
Rocky looks great. Opening weekend is almost here. The marsh is gonna be a wonderful world for him to keep progressing.
I got lucky and drew a resi for los banos on the opener!!
Thanks man! Lucky!! No rezys for all 10 of us 😂😂. Have fun!
It’s all luck man. Hopefully the resi gods will be nice to me this year. I did ok last year.
I’m taking a newbie with me. He’s never duck hunted.
Ya that’s the truth. Never really done any had much luck and I spend quite a bit. Maybe this will be my year. Uh oh you’re creating another addict lol
Looking goodman i am taking My 6 month pup Mojo to his first hunt test this weekend. Think it will be a good new chalenge for him.
Thanks! Good luck!
Is there more than part 12 on the training?? Love the info you relay.. got chris akins vidios .
I have an advanced duck dog playlist
Super cool to watch.
👍🏼👍🏼
9:21 made me laugh lol
Hey man! Just rescued a lab and starting to train it. Thanks for all these videos! How did you train Rocky to come using the e-collar?
Go in our dog training playlist and you can find it in there
Your dog is coming along great! He's gonna be great in the blind.
Thanks man! I’m still trying to figure out the percentage comment lol
@@MidValleyMercenaries at the beginning of your video, you said hello to the ONE lady who watches your channel. So I was just sharing that 98.9 percent of my views are male and 1.1 percent of my views are female.
Haha! Ya totally. Same here
@@MidValleyMercenaries Bad joke when I have to explain it 3 times. Lol.
Haha. No! My wife says I’m a little slow 😂
Nice video!! He is a good dog
Thanks!
ROCKY,ROCKY, ROCKY !!!!!
Your dog is doing great
Thanks!
No prob
This helps me so much with my pup. What CD’s do I need to get to this point. I’m not sure if I really need all three disks
Good to hear. To get to this point only the first dvd.
I've been re watching all your videos from part 1. Getting closer and closer to getting my lab. DVD's are in the mail! Just out of pure curiosity, cuz i've seen my buddy do this with his chocolate, have you got him to the point where you can send him to "2nd base," blow the whistle to get his attention and direct him over to either or?
You’ll love those dvds. Ya we’re working on that right now. It’s a Land T
Awesome
Thanks!
Did you have trouble getting him to pick up live birds?
Make that two ladies!
😉 👍🏼👍🏼
So other than the intro to gun video you did, do you still work with him around gunshots up to this point to keep it fresh in his mind? Or is that the only time you had him around gunfire? And if you are still doing that with him, how often? Love the vids and thanks in advance!!
Thanks. No just the intro to gunfire was all I did. He has no issues with gunfire
When you say bump him, what exactly is going on with the collar? Is it a sound, zip, or vibration?
It’s actually a nick or (shock). Very light though but enough he knows the “pressure” is there
Your dog is awesome! Are you going to bring him out at the beginning of duck season or do you think he needs a little more training?
Thanks! Ya I’m taking him out. I’ll continue to train him as the season progresses. I couldn’t leave him behind at this point he’d never forgive me 😂
haha true! He looks ready to me
What leash did you use in this video? I am not seeing in link unless I am missing. Thanks!
Scott Lippa I bought it on amazon but can’t find it anymore sorry! Honestly now I like a 12 inch leash better
Hey can you give me some tips? Thanks
Quick question, I know this is a older video so you may not reply but if you can take the time to reply I'd gratefully appreciate it. Why do keep rocky in the bed of the truck in the kennel? Why not in the cab of your truck with you?
Cuz he sheds very heavily. Don’t like the dog hair everywhere
I’ve been trying to train my CBR Female, and she is not patient after I throw the bumper. If I hold her than throw she does okay and goes on command, but I always have to hold her first.
Try using a short leash and not letting her realize you’re holding it by not putting pressure from the collar so if she does break you’ve got ahold of her.
@@MidValleyMercenaries Where did you get your quick disconnect short leash that you have in this video? I have a very smart female that will hopefully work well for my husband and me come duck season! Thank you :)
Hi Sydney, I forgot to put the link in description for that one. Here it is. Thanks for watching.

@@MidValleyMercenaries Thank you!! I could not find it anywhere.
You’re welcome 👍🏼
When they get around others dogs and you train together they will be more aggressive to get the bumper
Very true. When my dad and I get together with our dogs it def amps them both up
Rocky is looking awesome man! I just got my yellow lab a few weeks ago, any tips on dealing with walking such a young pup? Rocky seems really chilled out, but my yellow lab is wild, thanks
How old is he? If he’s real young you really can’t walk them per say. You can use a check cord to kind of keep them where you want them or from jumping on people or taking off completely but until they heel I wouldn’t worry about it too much
He’s about 12 weeks now, so when would you consider really walking him? Thanks for the response!
You can walk him but just don’t expect too much out of him until you start him to heel
How many weeks was he when you began heel? I got the first video of Chris Adkins, but there wasn’t too much on early puppyhood.
Honestly there’s not a ton you need to do besides get him around people some fetch occasionally and crate training. I started obedience and collar conditioning around 5 1/2 months old
How did you get him to be steady? My chocolate lab is crazy when he sees a bumper and it’s hard to get him to sit on heel
Train train train. Get a short leash and say sit than throw bumper. Make him wait, than send him. Just do it over and over. He’ll learn trust me. Do it 5 minutes at a time. Couple times a day if you can
Mid Valley Mercenaries thanks man I appreciate it
👍🏼
What size crate is that
Large
Good stuff bro. Don't forget to say "mark" when you throw the bumpers. So he knows to mark them. Are you doing forcing to pile after this? "Dead bird back". Make sure you train in tall grass as well. If not he will always use eyes instead of nose. I trained in short grass for 1.5 years just recently got him not using just eyes lol. Here's an example.

Thanks!
This is my husband on this channel he doesn’t have a UA-cam account so he uses mine
Gotcha!
98.9% vs 1.1%. Lol.
???
Sometimes I’m slow catching on
@@MidValleyMercenaries Male vs Female viewership on my channel. Haha.
I don't understand your comment
