    Even this video is not short there is missing so much.
    The north and baltic sea, with the friesian islands, Helgoland or cities like Bremen, Lübeck, Rostock. The Harz Mountains, Black Forrest, Palatine Forest. Some of the oldest Cities in Germany like Xanten, Trier, Mainz, Worms, Speyer all over 2000 years old. And i am missing here still a lot, too.

      Agree! It makes me sometimes angry if so much other regions and cities are left out.
      Btw, I kid you not, even within Bavaria only the South (Altbayern) is "advertised".

      I want to suggest you a Video from the oldest City of Germany, Trier! much more than over 2000 years old. The written city legend says, that Trier founded 1300 before Christ. The City contains 6 or 7 world heritage places.😊

    German Woman here...
    Such videos remind me again and again how beautiful my home country really is and how unfortunate it is that we hardly notice this beauty ourselves, as it is an everyday occurrence for us. Rich in culture, history and beautiful landscapes...
    Unfortunately, what I also miss in THIS video: where is anything of northern Germany shown? The magnificent Lüneburg Heath, the cute little villages on the Baltic and North Seas, the Wadden Sea (which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site!) and the Harz Mountains with their historic half-timbered towns? As beautiful as the Alps and the Black Forest etc. are - Germany consists of more than 2 federal states! And the flat landscape with its endless fields and pastures also looks beautiful in the various regions of northern Germany. And hey: we also have many, many castles, palaces, monasteries etc... It's a real shame that THIS side of Germany is never shown. 😞
    But apart from that: great reaction to the video - I love seeing your facial expressions and how much you admire the German architecture / landscape! Best regards from beautiful northern Germany 👋😀

    I'm sorry to say that there is a wrong information at 10:54. And it's not a slight mistake. There was shown the so called "Reichsburg" castle above the picturesque city of Cochem. And the valley you can see is not the Rhine-Valley, but the equally nice Moselle-Valley. The Moselle is the longest subsidiary stream of the Rhine, but much more narrow as the mighty Rhine River. And that's well on view.

    After 15min in I have to say they could pack more into it and concentrate on whole germany, not just the south. I really like south germany and have seen most of the places mentioned in the last 20 years, but I love my north germany (were I life). With all its lakes, coast lines, lüneburger heide and so much more. And at least to me the pace of the video is somewhat slow and repetitive. 😅
    In regards to our clean streets and city, yes we try to keep them clear. Sure you'll find dirty spots in many cities and even in these small ones. Several times a week the streets are cleaned and thanks to common sense litering is no sport.💪
    I think you'ld really have a good time here. Sure we germans can be somewhat harsh, picky and way too direct, though that's how we do for centuries 🥰
    //edit: ok, we have Berlin and Hamburg in the video ... still they could've put more into it in 45 minutes ...
    //edit2: regarding worst places, we have them ... every day here in Hamburg I pass hundreds of junkies on my way to work at the mainstation ... just as one example
    greetings from Hamburg

    6:50 the Zugspitze in this image is not 50% snow. There are only smaller snow patches and small glaciers on the Zugspitze in summer. The mountain range consists mainly of dolomite (limestone), that's why it looks so light above the treeline.

    "How can you not visit this?", you ask?
    Easily, because it's a) a Bavarywood version of a medieval castle -- an idealized movie set. It's pure early 19th century, and has only a passing acquaintance with reality. b) It's overrun with tourists, all day, every day. c) the real thing. Hohenschwangau Castle, is just a half-hour's ride (by horse-drawn carriage, if you wish) away, and Ludwig II has remodeled the inside of this real medieval castle, his ancestral seat, in much the same way. In the same village you'll also find Kloster Ettal (Ettal Abbey), a Benedictine Abbey founded in 1330 that housed not only monks, but also a nun's convent and a small order of Knight-Monks, like the Maltese Knights of the Mediterranean.
    In the 16./17th century, people made pilgrimages to Ettal. In the 18th century, the Abbey became famous for the schooling it provided, especially its war college -- teaching ballistics, military and civic engineering, including practical exercises. Nowadays, it is run as both a highschool and boarding school run by the monks. They also have a distillery, producing a liqueur ... which made disinfectants for hospitals during the Covid pandemic. Ettal was built in the Baroque era, was burnt down and rebuilt in the Rokoko style. Absolutely gorgeous!
    And finally, there's d) -- Ludwig built another castle, Herrenchiemsee, as a miniature copy of Versailles. It's on an island, and roughly 90 minutes away by car.

    Hello from Germany, I would recommend every visitor to our country to choose a federal state (of which we have 16) and then visit it and see the many sights. When I consider that we in Bavaria have more to offer in the West than Munich, Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Large and beautiful cities to visit would also be Regensburg (where the Perpetual Reichstag was the name for a permanent assembly from 1663 to 1806 of the imperial estates in the Holy Roman Empire), the cathedral, the stone bridge, the porta Pretoria etc. But Passau, the city of three rivers, also has a lot to offer. There is still a lot to tell but that would go beyond the scope. But it's not just the south that has a lot of things worth seeing, the north too. And in comparison to the south you can see the diversity of our country. Anyone who deals with our country in this regard will notice that this small country is very underestimated and that there is no way you can experience it on vacation. Kind regards from Upper Palatinate.

    The factories are in the northwest, not too far from Cologne -- it's where the coal mines were, and steel was produced. When I was a kid in the 1950s, you couldn't hang the wash outside to dry because even a drizzle of rain would deposit coal dust and ash on everything. These days, even our rivers and lakes are clean and clear again, and the "Kohlenpott" (the coal pot) is no more. It's also the most populous region in Germany, with lots of arts, culture and sports.

    You can read about the unfinished construction of Neuschwanstein Castle in Wikipedia (simplified completion), 4:28 the town is Dinkelsbühl.

  • @MichaEl-rh1kv
    @MichaEl-rh1kv Місяць тому +1

    Neuschwanstein is mostly for foreign tourists. It was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as private retreat based on Wagner opera romantics - but he run out of money and also out of office before it was finished. He was disenfranchised by the Bavarian government after he got deep in private debt even after getting large grants from Prussia (some years after Prussia had decimated the Bavarian army and in exchange for not longer opposing the Prussian leadership). He built also the palaces at Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee (the latter also never finished) before he started Neuschwanstein within sight of castle Hohenschwangau, built by his father, where he had grown up. Since Ludwig's younger brother was mentally ill, his uncle became his successor.
    7:08 Sweet pretzels? Not very typical, except for a handful of local holidays.
    On the way to Rothenburg they missed two other well-preserved medieval towns along the western border of Bavaria, the Swabian town of Nördlingen and the Franconian town of Dinkelsbühl. Rothenburg is only the most touristy of them.
    12:59 The river Lech flowing here through Füssen gets its turquoise color from the lime and magnesium carbonate dissolved in the water. It originates from the Northern Limestone Alps region and ends as tributary to the Danube.
    14:10 Looks like this video is not well scripted, jumping from one place to the next and always crossing through Rothenburg. It has a bit of an AI touch (and was presumably at least scripted with the help of AI). Neuschwanstein is by the way also near Füssen. 14:30 The pronunciation of all the names is terrible, but this especially - totally unintelligible for a German speaker. Dinkelsbühl (German pronunciation: [ˈdɪŋkl̩sˌbyːl]) means either Dingolt's hill or spelt hill (Dinkel is German for spelt and Bühl is medieval German for hill, so the town's coats of arms shows three ears of spelt on threefold hill, but historically the name goes back to a man called Dingolt).
    15:50 Lake Constance is the English name for the Lake called by Germans Bodensee (after the medieval Imperial Palace at Bodan, which does not any longer exist) and Lacus Brigantinus by the Romans (after the Celtic oppidum of the Brigantii, now known as the Austrian city of Bregenz, at the eastern end of the lake, whom the Romans defeated in the first, but not last known sea battle on the lake). 16:49 Talking about the Imperia statue they show instead the Seerhein (=lake Rhine, the part of river Rhine connecting upper and lower lake) with the old town of Konstanz at the right and southern bank - the only German city south of river Rhine.
    17:00 The new castle of Meersburg was built by the Prince-Bishop of Konstanz about a hundred years after the bishops were driven out of town after Reformation and took her seat on the other bank of the lake in the old castle of Meersburg. The ferry drive between Meersburg and Konstanz-Staad takes about 20 minutes nowadays and is part of the Federal Route B33.
    17:33 O.k., the AI combined the wrong footage with the spoken (presumably by an AI voice) text. How should an AI know the difference between an island in Swabia and a Bavarian mountain village?

    The 25000 castles are the ultimate max. However only 2500 castles are in relatively good shape, the rest are in some state of ruin.
    Neu Schwanstein isn't really a true castle but a mad king's romanticized image of what a perfect castle _should_ look like. Not like all those real castles still standing.
    Neu Schwanstein is finished on the outside, but only a handful of rooms and hallways inside are done.

    • @m.h.6470
      @m.h.6470 Місяць тому +1

      Not only "in some state of ruin", but also of varying sizes. Quite a few of the "castles" on this 25k list are little more than a few stones that once made up a stone hovel, that was barely larger than a modern living room. That is because the term "castle" - in this instance - also includes fortified medieval homes as well as gate houses along trading routes.
      There is a "castle" near where my parents live. It is called "Y-Burg" (not sure if it is an actual name or just colloquialism) that is little more than a square stone building, maybe 10 by 10 feet on the inside, with a stone staircase on the outside, so that you can get on top. None of the doors or windows still exist, so the place is basically left to the elements now. It was pretty much just a place to station soldiers to protect the area.

      @@m.h.6470 That's correct, I live near a few castles and palaces myself and most castles in particular show considerable signs of physical destruction. Nevertheless, Germany is likely to have the most well-preserved castles and palaces on the planet, because in other European countries, such as France, there are also a lot of ruins. At least that's what I would strongly suspect ;-))
      Or is there any other information on this? In Germany, no one has yet taken the trouble to determine the numbers more precisely and to classify them correctly. And at a European level?
      Another interesting thing would be the number of churches and monasteries that are historically significant, of which there are still a lot in Germany, even after the devastating WWII!

      What did you expect after round about 1000 jears?
      We have some well preserved castles, some are ruins. But how to make the difference, The Hardenburg Castle near Bad Dürkheim is a Museum with unbelievable items found around the castle. But the most parts were destroyed by the French.
      Same with the Heidelberg Palace.
      Or the Castle of Hambach, the birthplace of the German democracy, not a ruin, a museum too, but only the palas(not palace) is standing, with sorrounding rests of towers and the shield wall.

    forgot most cities along the ROMAN LIMES (the border). like Michelstadt.i lived there, was born there. Iits Rathaus (its city hall was quite famous till the 90s) Most tourist were americs, 2 families since 1972 (i was born 85) have contact to my parents and me til now. They met my parents in my parents store there which is now closed and we moved in the early 2000. Dad himself was a longtime in the us, and his photos and dias showed a lot (like a couple of his friends living in the brooklyn- with a BUNCH of cyntesizers and stuff - in a appartment that was as big as.. idk.. ONE ROOM - made it to a famous band later then if ... or tried.. idk .. the pics look like a Community of nerds and american nerd musicians in a fucked up appartment having a good time). I have the orignial pics he send me and we as a family often showed sometimes if it was about him living there,... pics of from on the top of wtc.. hm... he made a whole film (thats a film role - for pictures - not a movie) only for the street live - the cars, streets, people...

      @@1972Ray 67 million of 333 million people... That's round about 20 percent. Believe me, at least speaking 50 million of 82 million people in Germany one or 2 foreign languages, ( nearly 2/3) with various skills.
      But I think something is lost in translation. Bilingual (Zweisprachig) means that since their childhood the kids had learned 2 languages, for example the mother is from Mexico, and teaches the child Spanish the father from the US teaches the child English.
      The child speaks then fluent both languages. That means Bilingual. That has nothing to do with learning a foreign language in the school.

    ok, we know that the usa is still in puberty and is actually just starting out compared to europe. But in europe we have the advantage that not just anything or anywhere can be built, even though you have so much influence on something or those people who think they can and may do anything....and a lot is protected in terms of houses, nature etc. etc. In the usa you only see parking lots and MEGA buildings. Nature can also be beautiful and some protected in the usa, but if it were up to the builders/architects they would start tomorrow...as much concrete/asphalt as possible and as many large buildings and parking lots as possible for the carcentric usa. Glad that a lot is really protected here and the culture can be visited.....because we are not tearing it down

    Why is Neuschwanstein Palace always referred to as Neuschwanstein Castle? Is it due to the wrong translation of the German word Schloß? This means a palace, not a castle. Such structures were no longer an option in the late 19th century. But representative palaces are still popular today

    • @wonderfalg
      @wonderfalg 22 дні тому

      Good point. You should be right. Lazy translation.
      Or maybe not. For King Ludwig II it was way more than a palace. It was a refuge to get away from harsh reality. Ironically that palace ruined him and he paid all prices. Loss of power, loss of sanity, loss of life. The most tragic monarch ever ruled in Germany. And still the most loved one - by some Bavarians at least.

    • @duke6321
      @duke6321 22 дні тому

      @wonderfalg But the Bavarians who love him live in the present day. I can't really imagine that it was the same during his lifetime. He has more than overstretched his fortune with his ideas and longings, and has persuaded the government of Bavaria to dismiss him because of it. As a result, he probably took his own life. His death was never really solved - that mystified him. And that's why he's discreetly glorified these days. Viewed objectively, this is irrational - but a great success in business terms.

    Hello, I like your authentic emotions, thank you for that!
    Unfortunately, in Germany (as in every country) there are less beautiful places, even really dirty ones. You will find them in every village or town, but luckily you have to look for them ;-)) They are the exception. I would say that, even though I have not been everywhere in Germany. There are also people here who are not so strict about their (our) environment.
    Unfortunately, many people who have moved here from other countries also bring their bad habits here, which does not mean that there are no polluters among the locals. This is not foreigner bashing, but a sad fact and personal experience. Any kind of garbage in our environment annoys me, because it doesn't have to be that way.
    Regarding the video shown, I would say that once again only the most well-known places were shown, albeit very incompletely, as has already been criticized here. That would go beyond any time frame.
    In principle, you can find landscapes worth seeing (worth living in) and urban cities around every corner throughout Germany. Nature (even if it is mostly a cultural landscape), for example, is never far from your own home, and anyone can go there because there are hardly any restrictions, except on private property.
    If you drive across Germany on motorways (BAB) and don't drive too fast ;-)), you could enjoy almost every kilometer (at least as a passenger), especially in summer, but also at all other times of the year. If it weren't for those damn traffic jams in the many major construction sites.
    The road network is enormous for such a small country and you can usually get anywhere without detours, even to neighboring countries. Our motorways are being expanded almost everywhere, sometimes extremely, in order to cope with the enormous traffic. When the sections are finished, it is an absolute pleasure to drive, if the general traffic situation and the weather ;-)) allow it.
    The dense railway network can also be a nice experience if you want to explore Germany and manage to do so without the otherwise "normal" delays ;-)).
    I hope you can visit one day and that time doesn't limit you too much ;-))
    Greetings from the currently rainy South Hesse!

    I feel there are some sights missing especially in the eastern part of germany but maybe I am a bit too biased because that is where I come from. Look at the Basteibridge for example and while they were already in Berlin why not hop to Potsdam and show Sanssouci the summer residence of past prussian kings with its impressive garden? The Berlin Palace was completely destroyed by the Soviets and they built one of their propaganda pieces which was demolished finally a few years ago and replaced with the rebuilding of the Original Palace. Or while in berlin in my opinion the Oberbaumbrücke is also really impressive. I wouldn't say they have to show everything like the Zitadelle Spandau is not that remarkable compared to many others for example but I feel a bit left out with their choices.
    Sorry for the long rant I am just annoyed that they showed the same place several times and ignored others.

    The only thing which annoys me is the fact that English speakers insist on pronouncing th as an english th which does not exist in german. Rothenburg is pronounced Rotenburg, Neanderthaler = Neandertaler, Luther = Luter. The th in german words is an old spelling and is kept in names but not in "normal" words like Tal (valley) which used to be spelled Thal.

    Please don't be disappointed about "US not as pittoresqe as Germany"....... Your country is simply too young to have that ammount of history. And I guess you won't find bad and crappy places easily. Sure there are some. Germany for sure has homeless people but......... not as much as some of your states and moreover, we do our best to not show homlessness. Some cities even try to hinder them from sleeping on benches by putting arm rests in the middle of a parkbench. So how could someone sleep there if not able to stretch out? They also build artificial rocks under bridges, so nobody will be able to build a little tent under a bridge... and so on. We even have a name for it: "Hostile architecture". But much more people would be homeless if our social system wasn't what it is. Even though it is decreasing, it is still one of the best in the world. But I don't want to get too political here......
    What really upsets me concerning most of the videos like this one: They rarely show our beaches and islands. Lots of Americans are surprised when learning we indeed have some, because Germany has access to the North Sea as well as to the Baltic Sea! Sure, our beaches and islands are not "tropical ones", but that doesn't mean they are not nice, impressing landscapes. And during summer time we love to swim and enjoy beach fun!
    My recommendation for you is the "DW Channel" here on YT. DW is a German broadcaster, but also has videos in English. There is a little series about North, West, East and South of Germany.....wellmade and showing what lots of other travel videos don't show, and also telling a bit of the region's culture. The Series begins with the North, which means it shows our beaches :)
