Probably I'll make few moew videos about STL and Mesh, but currently I'm writing a book and don't have free time for new videos. In the book there will be a whole chapter about working with imported models.
Thanks a lot for the video but I have a problem: when I assign the face setting to every different surface, the "hidden surface" menu it's not visible and the surfaces are not hiding, so I have problem in reaching the inner ones. Do you know how I could fix it? Thank you so much
The hidden Surface menu becomes available once you have a hidden surface, but keep in mind that you can hide converted surfaces. In this video I show how you can hide a surface ua-cam.com/video/D2Elk7Eu6K4/v-deo.htmlsi=0l5sk2csXNS6o9S5&t=174 If your mesh surface is not disappearing, then you should hide it from the flyout Feature manager tree in the graphics area. I hope this helps.
ScanTo3D is not available before 2018 as version. And a lot of what I show probably is not existing in a version from 11 years ago. SOLIDWORKS is adding improvements every year.
If your SolidWorks is 2013 you cannot use this, it's not available. In 2013 version there was not a decent way available to work with STL, you need other software to convert to STEP or something similar.
Very good video. Thank you for sharing. By the way, can you move objects to layers on the design side and Solidworks? Or is the layer function reserved only for the drawing section? Thanks!
Thank you for watching. In SolidWorks, layers are for drawings only. If you want to save to DXF from a model or drawing and need layers, then you should use mapping. However, even so, layers will be applied based on certain criteria, and you cannot set them individually.
When a face is converted it disappears, but you can see about hiding and showing surfaces in more details in this video ua-cam.com/video/rh2cudh6wZg/v-deo.html
Hello, I have a question about your procedure. When I reach the Surface Extraction step, I select a flat surface and select the plane icon, I get an actual plane show up. My selected surface does not disappear, and I do not get a list like you do in the video. Is there a setting I may be missing? Thank you for the video and your help.
Can you send me some screenshots in LinkedIn. I'm currently on vacation and have a bit slow response, but will have a look as soon as possible Check out Danute Petrova-Nikolova’s profile on LinkedIn bg.linkedin.com/in/danutep
@@matiasnjackson So my answer is sort of. The part I had was quite a bit more complicated than the example. When I selected each face, it did not disappear like in the video. But it did create the plane for the selected face. But because nothing was disappearing it became quite difficult to work on. And if you have an error, you cannot just back up and fix it. You have to start all over from the beginning. I got so frustrated I ended up just modeling the part from scratch. I hope this helps you.
@dnvm84 you don't have to start over again, you can finish to where you are ready and you'll end up with a lot of submeshes and extracted faces. From this point you can start the surface wizard for each submesh individually and before doing so, to hide all that is giving you troubles for visibility.
@@DWorkshop Hello, but if you select something wrong, I did not find a way to unselect it. And if you hit the "Back" button, you lose all of the work up to that point.
Hi, if you don't have the add in you should stick to the standard import options. You won't have SW features after it, but at least you'll have editable mesh body. You can check how to do it in this video ua-cam.com/video/EDDUsci15ac/v-deo.html

Normally there is a slight delay until it converts, but if it don't do it at all there is something wrong: either the face you pick is not planar or there is some bug. Is it happening with every face or just some? Is it only on planar or happens to other types too? Also try with BSpline - the last option, it should be able to convert it.
It seems like the work process of Geomagic Design X, which is quite cumbersome as well. It would be great if there were AI tools related to reverse feature modeling that could emerge😂
I hope there will be some sooner. 😊 Anyway, I'm happy even for these ones because ten years ago, importing STL in SW was an extremely hard and sometimes impossible process.
why my wizard is greyed out, i download the .stl file but its wont work, i cant show image here so i hard to explain , or do u have discord or other software i can contact you ? because yours is like Mseh1, after imported .stl file, but mine is Graphic1 after import .stl file
The problem is that you are making normal STL import not for ScanTo3D. Please watch this video to see how to import properly for ScanTo3D ua-cam.com/video/f6wyrUZ_TE8/v-deo.html
ScanTo3D is not available in SolidWorks Standard. If you are with Professional or Premium and ScanTo3D tools are still greyed out, you probably imported the wrong way. You can check this video too ua-cam.com/video/f6wyrUZ_TE8/v-deo.html
Спасибо огромное! Лучшие видео которое видел по работе с stl в солиде!!!
Большое спасибо
That was exactly what I was looking for. Thankyou!
Great!
Could you make a detailed video about face selection? Which option should I choose in different situations?

Is it possible to convert only one face instead of the entire body for more complex conversions
Yes it is, you can check in this video ua-cam.com/video/D2Elk7Eu6K4/v-deo.html
hey, schön gemacht, danke dir
Where do I send a suggestion for improvement? It is VERY difficult to see what colors things are in this tool as you move around a part.
Very good point I totally agree. I think you can post your suggestion in the SolidWorks forum.
@braydenwrede8617I have and they still appear very muddy, making it difficult to identify surfaces at angles to one another.
Is it different in 2013 version?

So i can't do or is there another mode/function to do that? because is a 2013 version it is impossible in that way, is tgere another way?

Unfortunately I can't.

Hey, in surface wizard, when selecting the faces how do you hide them?!

Is there a way to do a conversion for Blender files if it’s exported as an STL
Any STL can be converted, but more organic shapes will be harder. Check also this video ua-cam.com/video/rh2cudh6wZg/v-deo.html
