Many snotty congratulations in completing this.
At Penistone there used to be an electrified line which is the old Woodhead platforms which you both saw, the electric services used to go from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield Victoria, the passenger service finished in January 1970, and closed completely to freight in July 1981.
Passenger services from Huddersfield to Sheffield used to go via Deepcar until May 1983 from when they were diverted via Barnsley.
The Woodhead Route was formally the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway which then went though Brigg to Cleethorpes.

You asked about the Sheffield Canal and if it's open again?
Well from the beginning of 2023 the Canal towpath is well and truly open all the way from Sheffield to Rotherham Canal basin and just a short walk from there, is Rotherham Railway Station, so at least you won't get lost.
If you get the chance, take the Canal towpath all the way to Sheffield Victoria Quays that's where it ends, and I must say it's a beautiful place to end the journey from the Rotherham end.
I do it regularly and never get tired of it.
Anyway hope I've been of some help to you now?
    Ps.
Love the bow tie 😍 must say it stands out a bit lol 🤣 wish I was brave enough to wear something like that 😂.
Anyway my lovely Happy New Year 2024 and hope to lookout for some more interesting videos to come .

And secondly if you ever get another chance in the Elsecar area, go and visit the Elsecar Heritage Centre Museum, it's a lovely little place with a lot to see and do, it's even got it's own Heritage Railway too, but sadly is closed, but you can go and have a look around to see what is left, plus there's a lovely canal walk in the area too.

Such a funny little town in Yorkshire Penistone is. I definitely would like to go there one day hence the name. Wish that the Woodhead Line would have still existed so that you would have gone from Sheffield to Manchester much quicker. That the former Woodhead Line was electrified.

that's my local line, that is! (I live round the corner from Elsecar station)
Elsecar is a very quiet area in general, and besides having the heritage centre, it has an enormous park on the fringes - but they're both a good 20 minute walk from the station, down a steep hill
also, the 'w' in Dodworth is silent ("dod-uth"), but to be fair, even the automated announcers get this wrong

Watched all these over the last week or two, the NW ones before, they are brilliant, thank you as you inspiring me to get out a bit more, without going in to detail, I hadn't left Blackpool at all for over 3 years, last week, I went to Preston, Kirkham and Lytham by bus and on Friday Wigan by train. Despite getting very stressed in Blackpool North, I got on and got there, had a little wander round the town and the big park near by. Actually enjoyed myself 😁

Very cool, well done for completing this area. When are you gonna do the North East? :P
I was just thinking I don't know if I would be able to do any more stations before the new year. Then I remembered, I'm going to do the Huddersfield to Leeds direct route tomorrow after visiting a friend. Maybe I'll work from my start point towards Huddersfield, then head back to leeds via Bradford, do the last 3 stations on the airedale/wharfedale lines, and then do the last bit of the direct route on my way back to the car.

Any idea where you might go next? Part of me wants to suggest West Midlands, if only because it's where I live. But Scotland would be really cool! (Even if you have to have 4 hour waits and can only do 3 stations per vlog!)

Dent station is my fav because i'd walked from Gardale in a proper snow blizzard, and when i got there i could'nt believe my ears. There was a young lad with an acoustic guitar playing " The times they are a changing". He was as surprised to see me as i was him. He said he goes up there for "inspiration". Never forget it. That train could'nt come quick enough, er, not because of his playing, but it was double brass monkeys. I've never been more "enthusiastic" to see a Sprinter !! Good luck with ya channel, btw, although i do'nt think ya need it. You lend "a pleasant aspect" to proceedings. Dodworth is pronounced Dodath, btw. Mind you, ya're a foreigner, so i'll let you off this time.

I'm sure G knows how it should be pronounced. But with Wombwell, I've always called it Womwell, but seems G is right, and I am wrong. In fact whilst I knew about the body part included in Penistone, I'd never picked up that within Wombwell, because you'd never think of that when pronounced the way I used to. Also always amused by G's pronounciation of "Buses", although in this video she says it properly once !!
