    I always wrote Nick Offerman off as a one dimensional actor who was typecast playing the curmudgeon with deadpan comedic chops. This performance was amazing. I cried several times during the episode, but his reaction when Frank told him his plan for their last day together...it wrecked me. And he can cry...oh man. I was blown away.

    Love gay people's reactions to this show for obvious reasons. So cool to see people who finally have a mainstream show in which they are _realistically_ represented as just people. I'm not gay and I love it, because it's just not done that often. I can't imagine how being gay and seeing this kind of representation feels.

    I found your channel because of this episode. I cried much too hard. It was awfully close to home for me, except rather than a bottle of wine, I had to contend with a “do not resuscitate “ order that I desperately wanted to pretend didn’t exist. When he said “I wasn’t Afraid until you showed up” was exactly how I felt when my Gary knocked on my cabin door one day. Such amazing writing and so masterfully done.

    Apart from this episode just being an incredible episode on its own, I just felt so glad that we were able to get such a genuine, vulnerable queer love story in the span of a single episode, especially in a series where many might not expect it. I loved that the showrunners had the guts to go through with this when they didn't have to. I sat down to watch this with my mother, and by the end we were both bawling our eyes out. It's one of those TV/movie experiences I wish I could experience for the first time again.

    Loved the opening scenes for Bill. I could just imagine all the "Don't tread on me" fellas cheering at all of Bill's prepper skills and knowledge. At first feeling represented, than wailing in despair and crying "Woke!" when he turned out to be gay, which it was confirmed he was in the game lore.
    Bill was a badass. Total badass. The prepper skills and knowledge he possessed. All the stockpiling he did. Setting up the traps. The defenses. Taking a bullet to protect his love and home like a champ. The irony, for the "I'm an alpha male because I say I'm an alpha male" crowd..is that being gay is what made him such a badass. He grew up ostracized in a world that hated him and he hated in return. Probably spent his whole pre cordicep life bullied by everyone and the apocalypse gave him the opportunity for payback. Until Frank he was never afraid of dying and more than ready to go out in a blaze of glory.

      I think it was also meant to draw some of those folks who hold that attitude who might be in the closet themselves. To let them understand that being gay isn’t just a stereotypical “woke” idea they might have, but they can be openly gay too in their own way and get the love they deserve. I hope the episode changed some hearts.

    Thing is, when the world fell in 2003 gay marriage wasn't legal, Massachusetts legalized it in 2004, Obergefell v. Hodges was decided in 2015. So 20 years after the fall of the world gay marriage would still be unheard of in this timeline... 😢

    I really love that not only did the show give a happier end to the story of Bill and Frank, but it also doesn't fall into some of the more common tropes associated with not just gay relationships, but relationships in general in shows/movies. I find they often focus on the sex aspect of relationships and the emotional part of it revolves mostly around the drama within the relationship. This episode gave focus to the positives that come from a loving relationships. Bill grows to care about things because Frank cares about them (watering the flowers, working with Tess and Joel, etc...) Frank becomes willing to defend their home when raiders come. Even though he never pulled the trigger he didn't try to hide or run away when he realized what was happening.

  • @eltravos99

    The montage, that's what got me. I watched this with my girl, we've been together for 10 years now so it was very hard to go through this episode without thinking about her, and the wedding part, Bill and Frank in their beautiful suits and the music... My girl cried like a baby, and I could barely hold my tears until the wedding part, that's when I started crying, in silence. It destroyed me.

    What I like is this is not a "forced" or cringe type of gay character development as many TV shows or movies have done in recent times. This is a natural progression of what real people will do as events unfold. I hope they make more content like this. This reminds me of the Walking Dead when they introduced Aaron as a gay character.

    • @thelastdino8019
      @thelastdino8019 Рік тому +1

      This I swear they just inject gay characters into everything (randomly) for diversity instead of actually doing what this show did. It’s like how commercials always have one black/Latino and only one for inclusion. Lowkey racist imo I probably make it sound bad though

I don’t know that I’ve actually ever watched a movie or show that had a gay relationship that was so serious. It’s usually some type of comedy. This was not a comedy. It really touched my heart. Honey, if you're a "DRAMA QUEEN" for bawling because of Bill and Frank, then just call me Lillian MF Gish! My husband is ten years my senior, and we've been married for six years (together for 26). In 2018, an allergic reaction to a prescription drug put me in a coma and almost killed me, but my Bear stuck with me, and was there when I recovered. In 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 prostate cancer, and he was there through all my radiation treatments. So you see, even though we never played the game, this episode had more meaning for us than most people. If there's anyone out there who wasn't moved by this, then they've got some personal shit they need to figure out.

    No shame my friend. I was a blubbering ugly crying mess for most of the episode. I loved this ep so much I have been watching all of the reaction videos I can find. We are not alone in how we reacted to this. Being a straight guy, most of the depictions I get of queer folks are so derivative and stereotypical, it's almost like they are cardboard cutout characters. This story really hit me because it showed a relationship that anybody - straight or gay - can relate to. These men truly loved each other and the depiction of their last day together was a gut wrenching heartbreak to watch. These two men deserve whatever awards are given to actors who have mastered their craft.
