Your instinct that they are animating some of the skills in-game is spot on. Riot Games (creators of League of Legends) love tying their characters' stories to their gameplay.

That's awesome, I don't think I will ever try LoL, but I'm very excited to eventually see those skills and lore in an MMORPG!

This one is a particularly lore-heavy cinematic. To those who know some of the lore of this universe, this cinematic resonates even harder. If you are interested to read a blurb or two, the characters in this one are Kindred, Morgana, Kayle, Aatrox, Yasuo, Tryndamere, and Ashe. Can find a short paragraph about each of them on the League of Legends site.

Context: This cinematic is described as the "Past, Present, and Possible Futures" and if you noticed between each transition, there is very small image of Kindred as she comes to claim each soul's life, in the fire when Kayle burns Aatrox and her eyes in the faint woods as Yasuo accepts his death with the arrow being shot at him
The first two characters you see (the angels) are Morgana (Purple Wings), and Kayle (White Wings) the twin Aspects of Justice. They're also sisters wielding two halves of their mother's blade (their mother was the previous Aspect of Justice). That scene takes place in the past of what we know of the lore right now, during a siege on a kingdom called Demacia, which happened in ancient times.
To be an Aspect is kind of like being an avatar for a god. The person they're fighting is Aatrox, who, at one point, was also kind of an avatar for godly powers, but was corrupted by blood magic, and effectively "cursed" to never die. He now seeks the destruction of all existence in the hopes that he could finally rest. The last bit of the scene seems to be meant to show the differences in Kayle and Morgana's personalities. Morgana will sink to any low she needs to in order to do what is right, whereas Kayle sees herself above it all, looking at her position as an Aspect as far more important than it possibly is. Since this is the past, this is technically before Kayle and Morganna split and go separate ways on deciding how to deal Justice. But you can definitely tell Kayle is now mad at Morganna for using magic and two, throwing down there's mother sword.
The second scene is of the future, in a small village in a land called Ionia. The old samurai is a character by the name of Yasuo, a master of a powerful wind technique. He's had a life of disgrace, and hardship, failing to save his master who taught him the wind technique, being blamed for his death, and then having to kill his own brother who hunted him down. Clearly, when he grows old, he finds a place in the small village, and lives there in peace until it's attacked, prompting him to take up a sword in defense of the people. The scene is pretty self-explanatory, but it's a very strong moment for League of Legends fans for sure.
The final scene is my favorite. The whole video starts with the line "Tomorrow is a hope. Never a promise." This line is spoken by Lamb, one half of the character known as The Kindred. The Kindred serve as the Grim Reaper of the world of League of Legends. The story goes that Death was so lonely that it split itself in two, so it would "always have a friend". One half is the Lamb, and the other half is the Wolf. Lamb represents the peace in acceptance of death, wielding a bow to deliver a swift end, and Wolf represents the violence of rejecting and running from death, being literally a beast that mauls anything that tries to escape. You only see them when they've decided your time has come.
The character we zoom in on at the end is Tryndamere, a barbarian king of the Freljord (Frel-yord). At the very beginning, he seems to be in a battle for his life against surrounding forces. When we reach the end, his vision shifts to a darker scene, and the image of the Kindred come into his view. Wolf is on the offensive, because Tryndamere is trying to fight for his life. Lamb tries to deliver shots that will end him quickly, but it seems Lamb is surprised to see that Tryndamere has a power that lets him avoid death for a short time (which is what the red in his eyes means) (If I am correct based off lore, he is infused with blood magic which technically allows him to become immortal when on the brink of death). It catches them off guard and lets Tryndamere almost get a blow in. While Wolf attempts to maul him, Lamb tries to go for one final strike, when Ashe, the frost archer, and wife of Tryndamere, arrives and kills two of the men that were attacking him. The Kindred and their darkness fade away, indicating that Ashe's arrival has saved Tryndamere from the Kindred's hunt, and the death he was destined for. As more forces move in against them, Ashe fires a hawk shot into the air to signal their position and call for reinforcements.

Thank you so much for the detailed answer! Honestly I'm mindblown that the lore in a game like LoL is so detailed. I'm not really interested in playing the game, but the prospect of a MMORPG and all the cinematics and shows really hypes me up! Will be watching more for sure!

Riot often puts out a big animation at the start of the season, and most of them are worth checking out. The standouts in my opinion are (should you want to check out more):
    2022: The Call
    2020: Warriors
    2019: Awaken
And if you're particularly hyped for the MMORPG, the community has a lore guy that has been acknowledged by Riot and visited their office on multiple occasions, he has put out a video detailing the world within the context of an MMO thats designed to be understood by people who have never played the game and know nothing about the lore. I won't say that you *need* to watch them all, but I'll just leave them here in case you want to get swept up in the hype (for the next 10 years while we wait for them to make it):
The World of Riot's MMO is Already Done
Races & Classes of Riot's MMO According to Lore
The Bosses & Raids of Riot's MMO
Legendary Loot of Riot's MMO According to Lore

For even more Context: League of Legends was created/inspired by DoTa that was created in Warcraft 3. So most of the base roster characters in League are just their own versions of those Warcraft characters. Ashe was definitely based off Drow Ranger > who was based off Sylvanas.

The MMORPG has been rumoured since 2020. They did a 10-year anniversary event, where they teased that they were working on a bunch of new games. The "S" in their "Riot Games" logo cheekily lit up to symbolize that they're soon going to have more than just League of Legends.

It's not just "rumoured", it's been officially announced in December of 2020. Although there is a chance it might get cancelled, if the game won't turn out good at the end.

They also have more than just League. Several smaller RPGs, a card game(Legends of Runeterra) and an Autobattler(Teamfight Tactics) So ya, the S is there for a reason. Regardless, mmo is confirmed to be coming. They also have Valorant, but that isn't in this setting.

For context Tryndamere (big sword guy) and Lamb & Wolf (Kindred) have a relationship for meeting often. Kindred is the embodiment of death and comes to take whoever is meant to die but Tryndamere is cursed , as long as he fights he can not die (immortal basically)

  • @ripLunarBirdCLH
    @ripLunarBirdCLH 11 місяців тому +1

That warrior in the beginning with a big sword lying down, beaten? That's Tryndamere.
The thing with him is that his tribe have been attacked by Aatrox (the monster fighting those winged sisters, Kayle and Morgana, protectors of that city in the background). Since then Tryndamere have been kinda corrupted by hemomancy, the blood magic of the Darkin, the evil monsters like Aatrox.
Every time Tryndamere is in near death situation, a blood frenzy kicks in. That's his ability, The Undying Rage. When that happens Death itself comes to claim him. And in this universe a personification of death is Kindred, the two spirits, The Lamb granting swift death to those who accept it, and The Wolf, a cruel predator chasing those who refuse to die. But Tryndamere in his Undyng Rage is literally too angry to just fucking die. And on top of that blood magic allows him to resist even death itself. He's fighting off Kindred, refusing to be claimed by either Lamb of Wolf. And that's not something a lot of people can ever do. This is why The Lamb is giving Tryndamere that head tilt, appearing intrigued. Kindred aren't used to being held at bay by a mortal.
But when Tryndamere was fighting Kindred in the spirit world, he was fighting off the attackers in the real world. You can see him encircled in the beginning, but when his wife Ashe comes for him (the "Sylvanas"), Tryndamere have already butchered all but two of enemy warriors. Ashe shoots the last opponents with her arrows. And when Tryndamere recognizes her - his Undying Rage fades away. This is the thing with them both. Ashe is the only person in entire world who can safely approach Tryndamere when his under influence of his Undying Rage. Because he'd just kill anyone else.

her sister (the purple hair) threw away their mother's sword and legacy to use magic. She sees this as an insult to their legasy, she is also a fantic when it come to her mother and Justice (she will literally kill u for the smallest mistake as she is the Avatar of Justice on the planet alongside of her sister)
So yes, Kayle (the blonde) is a massive jerk and Morgana (the purple hair) is the good person.

the lamb and the wolf are kindred, when you are about to die they appear before you to take your soul, if you lived a good life the lamb will give you swift death with the bow but if you were a bad guy the wolf will kill you painfully, but because Trynda's ultimate is to make him undying for a short time he is able to fight them both until someone comes to rescue him, and it happens to be his wife Ashe with the frozen bow
