  • Recovered from the late MicroJow, who's UA-cam clips were privatized following his passing in 2023.
Some commercials from October 30, 1981 as aired on NBC and KNBC, the NBC O&O and West Coast flagship in Los Angeles, California. Quality varies due to original tape conditions.
    They include:
0:01 1. California Federal Savings with Bob Hope (missing just the first 4 minutes)
0:26 2. McDonald's 'You deserve a break today' passport sweepstakes
0:56 3. KNBC Promo/ID for 'Look at Us'
1:00 4. NBC Friday Night at The Movies intro and preview for the then-TV debut 'Halloween' (of course, the NBC staff announcers in their now-former Burbank facilities were responsible for the bumper promos for the network's airings of movies for many years, though most of them, like Victor Boseman, have since passed away)
    1:55 5. Riunite Wine
2:25 6. Arrid Extra Dry Solid Anti-Perspirant (Now why in the world would a woman try men's branded deodorants? That doesn't make any sense)
2:55 7. Hefty Trash Bags (then made by Mobil, before selling their plastics division to Tenneco in 1995. The brand is now owned and manufactured by the Reynolds Consumer Products division of Chicago area-based Pactiv Evergreen)
3:25 8. Freshen Up Spearmint Gum (Freshen Up was discontinued here in the United States in the late 1990's, then worldwide two decades later)
3:56 9. NBC Movie bumper (voiced by the man I mentioned in the description of #4)
4:03 10. Promo for Father Murphy (R.I.P. Merlin Olsen, who was a big part of my childhood during his days as an NFL broadcaster with NBC as well as a co-host of the Children's Miracle Network telethon's back in the day)
4:13 11. Promo for Flamingo Road (which lasted just 2 seasons)
    4:24 12. 10-second version of #2
4:34 13. Naturite Vitamins, featuring Elke Sommer (Another 10-second ad)
4:44 14. Winston Tire Company (Yet another 10-second commercial. Sadly, Winston Tire went under in 2002 after 40 years in operation)
    4:54 15. KNBC NewsCenter 4 Promo/ID
5:00 16. Lysol Disinfectant Spray (Hey lady, let the man call it a night for crying out loud. At least he's giving you both for free)
5:30 17. Skin Bracer, ♪ byyyy Mennen ♪ (Mennen, and most of its products, became part of Colgate-Palmolive in 1992, the Mennen name has since been phased out on some products)
6:00 18. Soft Sense Lotion (discontinued as of 2020, possibly due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic)
6:30 19. Step Saver Floor Cleaner (also discontinued)
    7:00 20. Same as #9
7:08 21. SCTV (which of course, helped launch the careers of severals well-known comedians and actors, including Andrea Martin, Catharine O' Hara, Eugene Levy, and the late great John Candy, just to name a few)
7:18 22. NBC News Update with Bob Jamieson, sponsored by Ideal Toy Company (these updates later became 'NBC News Capsule' (which didn't make much sense), 'NBC News Digest', and finally 'NBC News At This Hour', before the updates were scrapped altogether in the early 1990's, becoming the first network to do so)
8:07 23. The Missing Link puzzle from Ideal (the former maker of the famous Rubix Cube)
8:19 24. Mark C. Bloome Tires (which was later gobbled up by the automotive service division of Goodyear Tire & Rubber)
8:49 25. Del Taco (The jingle was sung by Ginny Redington, who left us on New Year's Eve in 2022. R.I.P.)
9:19 26. KNBC Promo/ID for Entertainment This Week (now ET Weekend, which, along with Entertainment Tonight, has since moved down the dial to rival station, and CBS O&O, KCBS-TV Channel 2. KCBS-TV, Entertainment Tonight, and CBS, are all owned by Paramount Global)
9:24 27. Silhouette Books (Silhouette was acquired in 1984 by, and over two decades later, folded into, Harlequin Enterprises Limited)
    9:54 28. Alberto VO5 Hot Oil
    10:24 29. Porcelana Skin Cream
10:54 30. Topol Smokers' Tooth Polish (Only for folks out there that have a smoking problem, though everybody knows smoking can cause harm to way more than just teeth alone)
    11:25 31. Same as #9 and #20
11:32 32. Born To Be Sold (starring the legendary Lynda Carter)
11:42 33. KNBC News Update with John Schubeck (R.I.P.)
12:12 34. Carl's Jr. (which bought Hardee's back in 1998, and was later infamous for selling sex in their advertising for both chains, most notably including the ads featuring that damn slimeball, Paris Hilton)
12:22 35. Thrifty Drug Stores (which was bought out by Rite Aid in 1996, though the Thrifty name lives on as a famous Ice-Cream brand sold exclusively by Rite Aid stores, mostly in the West Coast, but also in some other states as well, including mine)
12:53 36. California Credit Union League (weird name for a credit union coalition, I know)
13:23 37. KNBC Still ID (R.I.P. Peggy Taylor)
13:27 38. Mashup Museum End Screen

I like the early 80's Del Taco ad and Carl's Jr ad from 1981. I love Del Taco and Carl's Jr food menu items. They are really good. 8:49 and 12:12

Well as mentioned in the description, Carl's Jr. bought Hardee's in 1998, which has a location in my area (Lebanon County, PA), and since then they've pretty much been offering the same menu items Carl's has, even though they did retain some of the original Hardee's items, such as the Roast Beef and Frisco sandwiches. Sadly, the closest Del Taco to my region is in Ohio, so we don't have one here. There is a restaurant in Hershey, PA called 'Del Taco of Hershey', but it has no connections whatsoever to the chain.

@@SABMashupMuseum there are a lot of Del Taco and Carl's Jr fast food chains in California where I live at in my opinion, but there is no Hardee's in California not where I live.

@@jasettereddix2856 No problem. Well there may not be a Hardee's in California, but at least you got a good alternative in Carl's Jr., even if they don't have some of the items they retained at the Hardee's locations. I guess you can say Hardee's is the Eastern Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern, and Midwestern equivalent to Carl's Jr.
