Lovely videos, it’s nice to see you try all the different flavours! Finnish girlie here :) Most of these were not salmiakki, licorice is a different type of candy, not categorised as salmiakki. Look for things that say salmiakki, not licorice :)All the best to you and your family!
Plain ammonium chloride is the best tasting salmiakki. Pantteri and Super Salmiakki have the minty menthol flavor that ruins salmiakki for me. Out of your selection the diamond shapes are the best.😋
Little experiment, now that you have tasted salmiakki. Don't know if it works on somebody who don't love salmiakki, but: If you watch this video or just think of salmiakki do you notice like a fountain of saliva opening under your tongue? Can't think any other edible having this effect, just salmiakki.
Its up to each person but remember to eat less then 30gram of Licorice otherwise it can be an "negative" effect ,think i saw an study that they had test even on healthy people they saw an increase risk .I love Licorice and i try to each less than 30g from time to time like ones a month or so.
Kouvolan Lakritsi is the best for me out of these, if you want to taste Salmiakki but not as strong, good ones are the Fazer chocolate bar which is filled with Salmiakki "Goo", the Fazer chocolate makes great combination with the Salmiakki, another good ones are Salmiakki ice creams, there are usually vanilla ice cream mixed with Salmiakki and sometimes licorice, the vanilla makes the Salmiakki taste milder, also dont worry about the tyrkisk peber one, the one you got is The Original one and how they are usually supposed to taste, there are some stronger salmiakki and licorice around but they arent sold in regular stores that often
Licorice is not salmiakki. They're completely different things. The term "salty licorice" is a terrible term, in my opinion. Licorice has nothing to do with being salty. You can mix ammonium chloride with licorice and very often it is done but you can also get just ammonium chloride candies (salmiakki) mixed with sugar and other flavourings which have nothing to do with licorice. Salmiakki just means the salt of ammonia, ie. ammonium chloride. It's edible and quite delicious but it does (in larger quantities) increase blood pressure and heart rate so people with heart conditions should limit their intake. 03:24 If you want to become a proper Finn, you tear the layers apart.
Try this approach. Your parents must have thought you to take your medicine as a kid. Where do you get your medicine, from a pharmacy, apteekki in Finnish. So go and buy your salmiakki from a pharmacy. This might help using what you parents had taught you to do. APTEEKKARIN SALMIAKKIPASTILLI SOKERITON ( pharmacist's salmiakki pastille sucar free) could be one of the products.
Black licorice is definite an acquired taste... Yeah you're right about that. I'm bred and born in Finland and I still don't like it. Besides in ice-cream . Then it's acceptable. Sometimes even good, shockingly enough..
I give you credit because I could never. I hate licorice...barf. Plus now that I've seen the horrendously unhealthy ingredients I'm so glad I loathe them.
Licorice and salmiakki are not the same thing even close... other one is sweet and other salty lol, buy turkinpippuri and something that says salmiakki and leave laktritsi stuff to the store
I don't personally understand why/how salmiakki is such a "difficult" taste worldwide. I mean people eat literal cow dung intestine soup, pickled fish, bird fetuses and god knows what else...but salmiakki, a combination of sweet and salty, is the deal breaker here? Yeah okay.
many people are overreacting in taste test videos... yeah, but ammonium chloride is a bit tough if you're not used to eating it, propably feels like eating something poisonous
@Foreignmonk34 I tried a sour salmiakki from my hubby's Advent Calendar, it was coated with extra ammonium chloride and really started to taste like what cleaning solutions smells like...

Thanks for the clarification!

The diamond ones did have more of a pure taste.

Ok thanks for the tips! Although not sure how I'd feel about the salmiakki goo haha. Ice cream sounds like a good next step!

There is difference between plain liqoirice and salty liqoirice. Salty is that salmiakki and plain is normal.

Maybe will give the ice cream a try next.

Salmiakki is salty ‘lakristsi’.

If you happen to suffer from high blood pressure, you should not eat licorice or salmiakki.
BITE the Tyrkish pebber.
