I too have a hard time walking by a nativity set found in a thrift store. I also have kicked myself for not purchasing a pair of ice skates in the middle of summer. Nice video.
I hate when all of a sudden something is trendy that I have been gathering for years (like bells and brass) because then everyone is scouring the thrift stores! LOL
I pick up bells at the thrift store too! I love using them at Christmas time---but don't forget to bring them back out for the 4th of July! Let freedom ring!
A few years ago , I found an old wood sled with the metal blades in great condition. But, now I am in an apartment, not sure how I might use it. But, not ready to give up. It would be cute with a pair of ice skates & some Christmas greenery hanging on it.
I like all of your ideas. I’m in NC and was fortunate to find a pair of white child’s ice skates. They seem like they’ve been painted, which is fine, but they need some help and I don’t know how to spruce them up. Looking forward to your next video!
Hi Angie, I love velvet ribbon too, and always wanted a willow tree nativity. We have a white ceramic set a dear friend made us years ago. You always find great lamps! I'm looking for some bells for a wreath too. Have a blessed week!
Thrift stores are not what they used to be. They mostly have junk. What has happened to the good stuff? I have donated very good stuff and never saw it displayed. Why?
You know people don’t realize how much stuff they accumulate one day your daughter, your son or your grandson or your granddaughter or your niece or whoever is gonna have to get rid of all this stuff. I don’t have all this crap because I don’t need all this crap it’s just stuff and I don’t need it, going back to when I had kids I had kids in the house. It’s great. You wanna make it fun you wanna make it pretty you wanna make it exciting but then they move away and you left by yourself with all this stuff their stuff, your stuff everybody stuff gets left at your house. Then you have to go through it. You have to get rid of it. You have to sell it you have to, when my kids moved out on their own, I had to get rid of all the stuff they didn’t want to drag with them. I’m not doing that to the people that I leave behind. I’m getting rid of everything extra. It’s just me and my dog and there’s no reason to have all this stuff I don’t celebrate with a big family and a big dinner and all that stuff, so I don’t need all this decorating crap and my kids will be grateful when they don’t have to get rid of it after I’m gone
That is somewhat sad. Don't your kids/grandkids come over to celebrate? There is no reason you can't put up lights and some greenery for your own enjoyment. And while it's great to get rid of actual junk, there are memories tied to celebrations and traditions. You may want to spare your kids, but going through some of your possessions is actually part of the grieving process - 'Oh look, mom loved this serving dish and she sat and embroidered these pillowcases when I had my tonsils out. So don't get rid of all the actual heirlooms (paper, magazines, old greeting cards, sports equipment, lawn chairs, 6 casserole dishes, dump that for sure) I have 9 grandkids, no great grands yet but I have vintage pyrex pie plates for each grand - I make pies at holidays, each one's favorites.
Am thinking that the word "crap" is very telling. If it's not your style.....get rid of it. However, my apartment has memory "treasures" that add beauty and texture to my everyday. If something new comes in, something needs to be adjusted out. That peaceful balance joys up my existence. At 68, my family know it's personal and they aren't expected to keep it up. Hope they make lots of $$ at yard sale after I'm gone.

I know, but the trends will not last.

I agree! There were always vintage items to be found. For me, it makes the thrill of the hunt even more exciting!
