Is Bear Creek Arsenal garbage? Did they finally fix their .410 upper?

  • This is my THIRD .410 upper from ‪@Bear_Creek_Arsenal‬. The first 2 did not chamber or work and were returning using their warranty. Did they fix the issue on the third try?
Take a watch and find out if you think it’s worth spending your money at Bear Creek Arsenal. Their customer service is on point and they gave me 0 issues when it came to returning my upper for replacement and repair. This 3rd one was a “repair” but I believe it was a replacement. ‪@Bear_Creek_Arsenal‬ makes everything in house but for this upper specifically, I was told that BCA was waiting on a part to be received before they could finish the remaining returns.
The machine work on this upper is much nicer than the first two I received (check out my previous videos)
Thanks to ‪@crankygunreviews‬ for chatting with and brainstorming on how to fix their uppers! Be sure to subscribe to his channel!

The Cali devices are not mis spec that b the problem all my bca rifles are great but I don't use ar shotguns . Get a rifle. And everything will be fine . Don't get special chambers from bca just the basics. 556 223wylde 7.62x39mm chambers like that

I have to make a new video, they feed and function fine.
I would agree that the compliant devices are not milspec but they also don’t affect the chambering of the round. They work perfectly fine with 9mm, 223, 300 blackout, and 308 (in my ar10).
I think it has more do to with the cartridge itself not being compatible with the AR platform.
I don’t think I would ever buy any other BCA upper for a few reasons. 1 being the shoddy experience I had from this one, and secondly, I’ve assembled like 7 of my uppers and only purchased 2. This was 1 of the 2 I purchased and it had some serious problems.

@gunsforevery1 I understand that. But there's some weird reason with bca that if you have a mag that stacks different inside itself, it causes the bullet to not chamber straight and messes the whole process up. If you set a pmag, and a Wilson mag side by side and look at the insert you'll see what I'm talking about. It 100% fixed my issues and we did everything before, polished the feed ramps, tried different bcgs. And it ended up being the damn mag feeding the bullets that started the whole issue. 3 uppers in a row! 350 legend, 300aac. And 7.62x39

2 were reliable and accurate 4 were basket cases that I rebuilt and put faxon barrels on .
I found sending them back was a waste of time. they claim 1" accuracy but thats at there little 25 yard testing range. I just got a Grendel back they claim was good it shot 5-6" at 100 yards. If you buy from them just budget for a faxon and don't waste expensive ammo if the BCA barrel doesn't shoot really accurate the first few shots just change it because they Never will. you got about a 33% chance with those guys. and they have terrible quality control. bad chambers on 2 of 6 and 4of 6 were less accurate than a snub nose 38 at 50yards

I had a problem with my bca upper. My bcg would have resistance going into battery. Turns out the hand guard was the issue. Found out it was machined 180 degrees off from the inside and the machined inside was pushing the gas tube to one side. Since i had anothe bca upper for reference i noticed that. Sub 2” groups @ 35 yards - not too bad (with iron sights). However, finding reliable mags is a nightmare - forget anything but 5 round Aksa or similar mags. I have had pretty much every one of these... I rebuilt the gas system and made a superior firing pin for the gen2 IFC upper and got it running excellent WITH specific ammo and magazines.**
Without modifications, the most recent upper from ATI with very adjustable gas system is very functional with several different loadings, but not with ATI magazines.
The IFC magazines don't easily rim-lock, and ATI magazines are extremely difficult to KEEP from rim-lock.
Having tested every available 410 2-1/2 that will fit in a 410 conversion magazine, the ones that work great to perfect in my AR based 410's, are...
      Remington STS/or Nitro sporting clays.
      Hornady Triple Defense.
Sometimes others will work ok, but can't handle a 15 round mag dump like the ones listed above. I have only found IFC magazines (10 or 15) to be reliable in my 410 AR conversions.

BCA is garbage - at least their rifles are. If you disagree & want to keep your rosy opinion of them, DON"T DO THIS: put 1 round in the mag, chamber it, expell it, then examine the damage done to the projectile. I’m sure they’ll exchange it for a different upper of your choice. That’s what they were gonna do with me for a 243 that I sent in and they had for over 3/4 of a year with another one sitting on the shelf the whole time they didn’t know to replace it. I at least got one back that shot sub MOA with 11 out if 12 hand loads I tested. Seems like either you get a really good one or a really bad one from them. My first upper I got from them zero issues right off the bat. The second one was a two MOA shooter. At that time they offered in minute of angle guarantee so I sent it back for a replacement. It took so long because they said their tooling was worn out and that’s what was wrong with my first one. • @gunsforevery1
      @gunsforevery1  9 місяців тому

It’s where this particular compliant device fits on a lower. It’s an upside down L shaped bracket that goes in there. When the upper is closed, the long part of the L hands over the magazine catch preventing it from sliding out to drop the magazine. When the upper is opened, the L is spring loaded and moves up enough to allow the magazine catch to move.
This is in compliance as CA state law says the weapon has to be “disassembled” in order to drop a magazine. Having an upper and lower separated enough to where it won’t fire or cycle or considered “disassembled”. It’s only like 1/8th of an inch.

It’s not that I can’t have a bolt hold open, it’s that this particular CA compliant device (there’s maybe 4-5 different types) replaces the bolt hold open with an L shaped bracket that prevents the magazine catch from releasing the magazine unless the rifle is “disassembled”. Having the upper and lower split is considered disassembled. This device when the upper is moved upwards about 1/8th of an inch allows the bracket to slide up moving out of the magazine releases way.

It’s extremely odd to use in practice. You shoot. Run out of ammo and the bolt doesn’t lock back. You then have to press the CA device (rear take down pin) it pops the upper up about 1/8th of an inch. The magazine release is now free, drop the mag, insert a fresh mag and push the upper down towards the lower. You hear it click back into place and then you recharge the rifle to use.
