Snow all ready , nice wood , I was doing the same In Ireland 🇮🇪 splitting wood all day long , great satisfaction, it’s so rewarding to be Self sufficient in fire wood 🐸🇫🇷🇮🇪🐸😊🍀good luck with your Channel it’s looking good .
Greetings Mike, I live close enough to Disneyland to hear the nightly 9:30 fireworks show. My younger years was spent in the country (New Jersey) and miss it a bunch. I get my dose of country life through your channel as well as Wranglerstar's. All the best to you and your family.
These videos Mike, are BETTER than any reality show that is on tv! With what you show is true and factual, and look forward for the next video. Congrats on reaching 10,000+ subscribers, you did it in a real short time.... Steve Reder
Well done on 10 000 subs, you make it look easy. A comment about saw logs and pricing, fire wood is gone in an instant, yes the house is warm as is the water and the oven if you choose. However if you send your lumber to the mill a craftsmen may just buy it and turn it into something that will last a lot longer. That said I have often called OH! just f....ing burn that sh.t I would like to thank all of Mr and Mrs Morgans subscribers for the fun and productive comments, you all stay safe out there, love Sean
Mike, I have the same log splitter, it you've got red squirrels around- they'll chew right through the plastic gas tank if you keep it outside! I'm going to upgrade to a metal tank when I have time. :) Nice job on 10K!
Love your videos. I always enjoyed This Old House and New Yankee Workshop and your presentation reminds of that. I think your genuineness is infectious and wouldn’t be surprised to start seeing you get sponsors if you haven’t already. I’m pretty new to your channel so forgive me if you’ve already covered this. Have you done a video on chain sharpening? I seem to go through chains more frequently than others. I sharpen every fuel and oil fill. Thanks and keep up the great work. Best regards, Jon
Mike, congrats on the subs. It doesn't take any more time to take three logs to the mill than one and a lot of little mills have too much mill ends/slab wood. Some give it away at the right time of year, bring some slabs home on the return trip and avoid lifting those rounds, you did a lot of splitting for less than $10 difference. Also, a big wide oak board will last a couple hundred years as a shelf or table. Living on the West Coast we sold some "oversized" logs to the Chinese because the exporter said they prize wide boards for their caskets, less cracks for the evil spirits to get in, I don't know about that but I know I love wide boards. Out here our "weed" trees are red alder, when I was a kid, everybody thought alder was good for nothing but firewood and lots of people would only burn fir, things have sure changed. Good luck and be safe. Greg B
Mike, I enjoy your videos. In one video you asked for opinions to cut your timber. I regret cutting mine. The cutters left a mess. I had quite a few red oaks that appeared good, were in fact diseased when cut. Keep up the good videos. David
Congratulations on the 10 thousand subs, i think your content is second to none, if you keep it up i wouldn't be surprised if you have 500k subs in a couple of years.
Good morning Mike from Allen and Brenda from canada good day in the woods you were knocking down the trees but we your pants were falling down to Mike's you need plastic plants suspenders to hold up your pants you're truly Alan and Brenda
This saturday (assuming this was the 18th) was our deer season opener in Indiana with all that wind and rain. Ended up with a 8pt nothing special but he'll eat well. Thanks for the videos
Mike congradulations on the 10k subscribers, it is well deserved. I want to thank you for your approach on the topic. I find a lot of people on youtube in this genre tend to rant about this or that. I mean I get it, part of the reason why people go rural is peoples frusteration with how things are going. But I come to relax and to enjoy these sorts of activities. A lot of times I leave more frusterated than I came with other youtubers, but not with you. You manage to just capture the peaceful renewing qualities of nature that I crave so much.
Congratulations on reaching 10,000 subscribers. I cut up my firewood by the delivered triaxle load as I no longer have my grandfathers woods to supply me. I use a county line wood splitter that I bought at tractor supply and it is identical to yours except for the decals. I am wondering if only a couple of companies are making them for many retailers.
Mike, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! I bet you folks put on one heck of a turkey meal. What am I grateful for re: your video channel? I am grateful for the comment you made a few episodes ago... " I like to just go climb up and sit in a tree". I love that one. From our house in the Great Northwest to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
While I DO own a substantial chainsaw (Stihl MS 251), I barely have anything worthy upon which to use it. A couple crepe myrtles and some random ficus fodder in my back yard....but luckily things grow fast here in Florida. The saw WILL make the trip up to my summer home in Michigan year by year. Still, I'd probably never leave the woods were I to live in a place like you have. Thanks for the fun and informative vids! Keep up the good work!!
Mike, Congratulations on reaching 10k subscribers. We unfortunately lost our dear friend, who I believe I told you about him before. My girlfriend and I have a considerable amount of work to complete up here in Buffalo, N.Y. , but once that is done, her and I can start looking for property out in the country. Hopefully the place that we settle on, will be out of N.Y. and in a state like Pennsylvania, where they support the 2nd amendment right. Keep up the great work, I look forward to future videos. Take care and God bless you and your family.
Hey Mike, man the growth of your channel has been awesome, I subscribed back in June or July 2017, you had like 690 subs or something. Remember your goal of 1000 dubs by your birthday?? Ha ha, man you eclipsed that for sure. Its a testament to your quality video edits, real world tests and use of equipment, and focussing on, as you say, the finer things in life. Well done!!! Adam, Melb Australia
back when i was a kid-and rode along with my dad to the mill-after the load of logs was layed onto ground. a scale master would walk around and scale our logs. a butt log would normanlly be graded as a "A" grade. u had a thru c or d-can't remember heck its been almost 50 yrs ago. lol. certain wood brought more or less back then. a 2nd cut in the tree as what u split-usually was graded as a "B" WHY-because it would say have a limb in it. same as the rest. i remember back then if my dad made around $150 for his load he was happy. that was on a single axle truck back then. u gave a really good explanation of what tree scales at.
Congrats on your channel man. More viewers than some cable channels. I would rather watch yours than most of the others. Have a good Thanksgiving.......
This comment not wood related. Just bought 15 wooded acres about an hours drive to the east of you and was wondering if you've ever see black bears on your property? If you have, what kind of problems (if any) do you have with them? The previous owner told me he spotted a cinnamon black bear on the property a couple years ago during buck season. Not a hunter so not looking to harvest it, but would be great to see some black bears here. Was just wondering how you deal with them if you've seen them on your property. Thanks. Keep up the great videos!
Its good information, however; I wold rather take both logs to the mill and have them made into lumber, the build some nice outdoor furniture with it. your wood from your land built buy your hands..... big time wife points :)
Always wondered the value comparison of split vs saw log. Seems to be pretty much a wash, but as you say if you find a prize section of log, it may be worth considering milling it. Thanks!
Hi Mike Congratulations on reaching 10k subscriber's! I'm hooked on watching . Your neat cutting and stacking of fire wood is inspiring me to do better ! Keep up the good work 👍
I got tired of watching big black walnut and sugar maple trees getting cut up for firewood in my area. So I built my own band-sawmill. Haven't made any money with it but I have a lot of nice walnut and maple boards in my barn!
Have you looked at getting a grapple or greens machine thumb for your bucket to help with firewood and general brush work?.... I got a 9 point buck in Ohio the other week. My biggest buck so far.
I prefer lumber and what the value of it is when used to build something that will last for years. That to me is more value than a little heat for a short time that once burned it is gone forever.
Hey Mike, I recently walked our twenty-plus acres during the winter die-off of most of the surrounding greenery (if you will), and we have several HUGE 'Black Oaks' that are over 80 ft tall, with a base of over 8 ft wide at a side glance. I did not measure completely around the trees, so this is a rough basic (very close estimate). Any idea on what this one, in particular, is worth, please? Some of the limbs are over 4 ft measuring across, and stand out at over 28 ft long. Thank You!
I do agree best way to get full value of tree is to turn it into lumber . But I take issue with your fire wood prices granted prices very where you are and who ya know. However many years ago I was asking these same kind of questions . Mother Earth news had a chapter in one of there books it was a chart . Break down if your paying 200 dollars for a chord of wood you would about break even paying $2,OO A GAL for fuel oil So if your paying 300 dollars for a chord of fire wood, your better off buying oil at least at today's prices.
Mike, do you think it is better time-wise for you ...... if you load up the rounds in the bucket and the rear carry-all of your tractor and haul them (as rounds, instead of split firewood) directly to where you eventually will stack them. Then, remove the rounds from tractor onto splitter at the wood-stack area. This way would skip the step of stacking them in to back of the side-by-side and handling them an extra time. Perhaps it wouldn't make too much of a difference. Or perhaps you don't want the additional 'mess' at the stack area from that which comes from splitting. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, or maybe a future video, perhaps. ? Congrats on the 10K.

Congrats on 10k sub's! I can't believe you get $100 per face cord! I live in Michigan and everyone around where I live burns wood and its hard to get $55 per face cord
I thought I subbed you a few days ago, but I guess I didn''t hit the button. Today I did tho... Where are ya'll at with that sneaux coming down ~!~! ????
Not sure this is a fair comparison Mike. You take the firewood to completion, but the saw log is just taken to the mill. Which would win, hard to say, but the real value would be significantly different that what is presented here. I guess it all comes down to final state, and how a person uses it to actually "Save" money to determine true value. Good thought provoking idea though. Makes you wonder what you could make if you owned a Timberking mill and one of their planers don't it?
Today this 12 foot log is probably worth more than $400 delivered to the mill. Would it still be worth more as firewood today is my question today? Thanks!
Man i cant believe forewood is worth $100 a face cord there, where i live im lucky to get $120 a cord delivered. and grade red oak logs are 40 cents a foot
I don’t think you are comparing ‘apples with apples’?? You should be comparing what the firewood logs are worth pre processing - like you are with the saw log. Naturally any ‘processing’ process adds value - processed firewood would always be worth more than unprocessed firewood. An Alaskan saw mill set up could process that saw log, in situ into Lumber - maybe with less time input. Then you would have a more equitable comparison. I think I’m a type 1 guy (!) neat is always better - mild ocd! Great videos 👍🤠
No argument with your valuation and I understand that you were not focused on time/cost of transport, etc. However, if you were already delivering the first log, then the cost and time for delivering the second would be dramatically reduced. You'd still be splitting something into firewood eventually though, either way. :-)
Man that's a far cry from what you should have got I guess it's because it's red oak I'm not sure White Oak that's an $800 log all day and Southern Illinois
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing!
That is some awesome looking wood when dried it will burn nicely!!👊

Yes, remember you telling me about that, sorry to hear that
The red oak on the west coast is way different than the red oak where you live and all I use it for is to BBQ. Great smoky flavor!
Factor in all the fun you had processing it, you came out way ahead.
Congrats on the 10,000 subscribers, awesome job.
This is alot like Buckin Billy Ray.. great video. Very informative
One of my favorite channels and congratulations on 10K, great production and editing, Thank You!

Mike- Great video! My suggestion would be for you and the wife think about children. Those heavy stumps are made for a teenager! Builds character.
Hi Mike

Thanks Kevin
Congrats! has anyone else noticed the closing music is the same as on myth busters?! love that show.
Mike, congrats on the 10k subscribe.
Have you looked at getting a grapple or greens machine thumb for your bucket to help with firewood and general brush work?.... I got a 9 point buck in Ohio the other week. My biggest buck so far.
Yes, on my wish list
I prefer lumber and what the value of it is when used to build something that will last for years. That to me is more value than a little heat for a short time that once burned it is gone forever.
Well said Mike! I envy your set up
Hey Mike, I recently walked our twenty-plus acres during the winter die-off of most of the surrounding greenery (if you will), and we have several HUGE 'Black Oaks' that are over 80 ft tall, with a base of over 8 ft wide at a side glance. Lookin' good !
Knew you could hit your subscriber goal. You’re a good dude, I really enjoy your videos. Oak splits so well don’t it Mike?!?!
Matt
Mike love the music it matches your sped up video, thought I was watching an old Charley Chaplin movie
I do agree best way to get full value of tree is to turn it into lumber . But I take issue with your fire wood prices granted prices very where you are and who ya know. 8/6/2019 Blew right past 79k and went right to 80k subscribers!!! Congrats!!
Ben Rosenbaum now he’s past 100k haha!
Congratulations on 10k subscribers
Thanks Kevin
I live in South central Missouri. People must be hungrier here. A cord of oak costs less than I would charge to watch it being stacked. I always tip big so I can sleep better. Going to wood furnace soon with block wood. Cleaner and costs even less.
Central Ct, I pay around 200-225 a cord.
Up in central NY a cord is worth around 250$. At least that’s what we were getting delivered locally
Oddman Outdoors it's $250 and as high as $275 delivered here in MA for hardwood full cord
Hi Mike, in comparison the wood in 2021 should have a value of £693 on @ $1.33.91/£1= £693X1.33.91 is a total of $933.91 @ Friday’s official exchange rate, bit of a difference isn’t it, that is if I got it right.
Congrats on 10k sub's! I can't believe you get $100 per face cord! I live in Michigan and everyone around where I live burns wood and its hard to get $55 per face cord
Mostly Outdoors seems like a classic textbook case of supply and demand !
Mike - if I've zoomed in correctly, it appears you use a 22 ton huskee as your splitter of choice ?
I got 23 subscribers! Lol...great video mike I love it.
I love your wood stacks. Where do you get you’re measuring wheel??
Could you do a review on the LogOx 3 in 1 tool?
I would value your opinion
Congrats on the 10k subs
Thanks
I thought I subbed you a few days ago, but I guess I didn''t hit the button. Today I did tho... Where are ya'll at with that sneaux coming down ~!~! ????
Not sure this is a fair comparison Mike. You take the firewood to completion, but the saw log is just taken to the mill. If you were to cut the log, and make flooring or trim out of it, it would undoubtedly be worth more than firewood. If you were to compare the "Savings" you would realize in both heating with firewood, and savings in purchased flooring or trim, then the numbers would truly change again. Which would win, hard to say, but the real value would be significantly different that what is presented here. Makes you wonder what you could make if you owned a Timberking mill and one of their planers don't it?
you ever try a 4 way head on splitter? i just put one on today.
Today this 12 foot log is probably worth more than $400 delivered to the mill. Would it still be worth more as firewood today is my question today? Thanks!
i'd say $450 for the quarter sawn, and 550 for the firewood, so $1000 for the whole tree..
Mike.....That piano music was.......painful
time to calculate heat energy vs electric vs CNG
are you in Pennsylvania those woods look like northeast PA woods
Love it!!! Hey check out (Surecan) gas jug it's the Best!!! Lowes sells them well worth the money.
Man i cant believe forewood is worth $100 a face cord there, where i live im lucky to get $120 a cord delivered. and grade red oak logs are 40 cents a foot

Sure can
How do you cut the rounds all to the same length?
Got some tools?
