- The Persona franchise is officially 25 years old! From its humble beginnings as an experimental Shin Megami Tensei spinoff right through to the world-conquering Persona 5, today we aim to celebrate the wonderful (and not-so-great) party members who've been by our side every step of the way. BIG DISCLAIMER: this is NOT a ranking of our favourite husbandos and waifus, but rather an assessment of the strength of party members' personal journeys and abilities in battle. Understood? Let's rank 'em. Here is Every Persona Party Member Ranked From WORST To BEST!

Love how they point out all of the positives he has then literally just rank Yusuke low just because of his early behaviour towards Ann
Agreed, I had to question if they finished the game because Yusuke specifically addresses it later on and it's a great comparison between his before and after character developments.
Also I would like to point out that while not confirmed like with futaba.
We actually have a lot of evidence that Yusuke is on the autism spectrum just like futaba.
That combined with his upbringing I honestly think he flat out doesn't understand where Ann is coming from or what she is feeling in that instance.
Isn't the thing he complains about with Jusuke something Ryuji, Morgana and the Protag are responsible for?
Also I think there are some patterns in this vid like Ayase, Ann and Lisa being low on the list for reasons that make no sense or Ken for being an 11 year old who makes stupid decisions
While neglected the fact that he's being pressured by his abusive mentor. No need to consider complexity.
"As a party member though, Rise doesn't do or offer much at all", maybe it's just my experience, but I feel like her late Social Link abilities pretty much broke the game lmao
She pretty much makes you incapable of running out of SP.
@@emperorpicard7222 not to mention she can also revive the protagonist, which can be a damn game changer
Rise is OP when you've ranked her social link. She was supporting almost every turn for me.
This list is not well informed gameplay or fandom-wise. Their effectiveness story-wise and development admitedly is more subjective.
@@PathBeyondTheDark even as far as story goes, he frequently implies that characters don't have much to offer or aren't utilized well which (even for some characters I'm not a big fan of) I completely disagree with. If you look more into their social links and/or the cultural context for their stories they offer a lot more than he seems to think. I have no idea how that might affect his ranking (and frankly I don't care about the ranking that much) but he could at least give them a little more credit.
Me when Akihiko is finally mentioned:
"I've been waiting for this!"
DIDYA SEE THAT, SHINJI!?
The standards employed in this ranking are all over the place. Characters will be ranked low and the entire focus is on their poor combat ability rather than their backstory and personality - then you'll have others that focus completely on their personality with a token mention of their combat.
It seems like this list is 1 or 2 persons perspective, and "combat" is used a crutch to rank some party members low that they didn't like as much.
eh to each there own
I think it’s because in persona 1 and 2 all the characters are exactly as good or bad as the others since they’re all basically wildcards
@@elijahsanders7362 But affinities change how good some characters are
I mean ranking people low bc you don't like them so much is perfectly fine
Agreed, I overall didn’t not enjoy this video, and not just for the opinions of the characters alone. The “rules” of ranking these characters are constantly broken, not to mention the usage of indirect issues that really don’t have anything to do with the actual character (how he viewed persona 5 having no male relationship options as a bad thing when reviewing Jun). He really is attributing what sees as “controversial” to the character’s quality, which is exactly what is wrong with most video game journalists. I don’t have anything against the guy, but I can’t find the video good at all
Factually incorrect about Teddie's use in gameplay, but then most people are. He doesn't share space with Chie, he's meant to be THE support party member once you get him and level him up. Buffs your stats, lowers your opponents, heals you, is what Teddie excels at so the rest of your party can focus on damage. Gameplay wise he's one of the best in p4.
Yeah, his views of Teddie's use in combat are highly suspect. Especially when he said that he focuses on melee, which anyone who's played the game can tell you that's far from the truth.
I was ignorant as to his usage cuz I really just wanted him to throw out bufu skills and hated how he got overpowered so quickly.. I don’t think I used him at ALL and just stuck with yuki and yo-Chan for buffs
It is hard to really rank party members in P4, but it is extremely difficult to say that Teddie is better than Yukiko, who has both a unique element and Mind Charge. Thus, it is hard to justify giving him a spot in the party over her, although you can still have both alongside Yu and a physical attacker.
Also, his Ice skills come in handy. Chie stops learning Ice skills after Bufula.
THAT PART.
After hearing that "this is not a list of which boy/girl you'd like to kiss the most", your Haru ranking and reasoning made me chuckle. She's unforturnately not very fleshed out in 5, given her late appearance, although her interactions in Strikers made her my favourite party member (maybe aside from Ryuji).
I 100% agree. Of the ladies in P5, I definitely think Futaba is the most fleshed out and interesting. A hermit who’s suddenly integrated into the Phantom Thieves? That concept alone is far more interesting than Haru’s entire story.
Or the fact Yukiko is either your best support or your best dps in persons 4 and she’s ranked rather low.
Ryuji pog
Am I the only one who thinks that Lisa Silverman is actually a really great character?
Yeah he is trippin
Nah bro I love Lisa as well our beautiful Ginko
I swear, they did her dirty here!
Yeah I liked how she had the classic school crush but didn’t have that be her entire personality and she takes Tatsuya’s rejection options pretty well actually and is pretty mature about it
Honestly, Lisa is a lot better than the likes of Rise, Marie and Makoto. Her crush on Tatsuya doesn't get old, she doesn't prioritize banging him over helping other people with their problems, her sibling relationship with Eikichi isn't incredibly abusive (she does hurt him a lot, but she doesn't bully him like Yukari with Junpei or punch him all the time like Chie with Yosuke) and also *she's not homophobic*
How can you be so wrong about Yukiko. She is not a "decent" healer she is the medic on the team she has revive/ healing skills and have the highest magic skills and most SP on the team
I'm not sure we played the same game
Yukiko is a damn near staple the whole game lol she’s got it all going for her
Idk what this person is smoking, not only is she a incredible healer but her damage output is insane
Who needs Yukiko when best boy Yosuke is there be the most Jack-of-all trades party member besides Yu with having good phyisical, magic and support skills all in one?
@@DustD.Reaper might be because his healing capabilities are legit trash but you're better off using an item. Just cause he's a jack of all trades doesn't mean he's good.
@@MrToonlink53 his exclusive 2nd evolution skill from P4G is probably one out of all 2nd evolution skills since its Mediarama with a built in Masukukaja for very affordable 25 SP, and lets be serious, when do you ever need Ma/Diarahan over Me/Diarama?
I take issue with Rise not being useful as a party member, especially with Fuuka there taking 4 turns to find a weakness while Rise eventually does it before the battle and she revives you and blocks a fatal attack along with healing and charge/concentrate support, as a party member Rise is the best navigator gameplay wise. I'd also swap Haru and Yusuke but that's me
Yeah, idk what they were on about, Rise might be the most broken navigator in the series.
@@PerfectKirby she makes Golden braindead easy lol
I feel like “combat ability” was a crutch for “personal opinion.”
@@PerfectKirby i mean it depends in the context of p5s gameplay for example futaba gives much better support buffs with full party head risers and double charges
Whereas in p4 where healing and sp are less plentiful rises heals and sp regen are game changers
Woooooord up! I never liked Fuuka much as a character based on how low-tone and boring she seemed, also not as good as Rise/Futaba. Rise looked a bit too much like a tart to me at first, but she grows on you and her abilities to negate 1-shots and Death are SO damn useful (especially against the more meaningful bosses for difficulty like the Reaper).
Rise also keeps you from ever needing SP items again and heals u after every battle. Same as Futaba from P5, they're both sooooo useful when you power up their links.
I gotta say, I kinda disagree with how low most of the Persona 2 cast is-even disregarding how much I love characters like Katsuya and Jun I think they’re on the whole a lot more interesting than they’re given credit for here, though the lack of social links does make it understandable they would rank lower than the later game folks
VERY THAT. Honestly, I was kinda shook to see Jun so low....
Sadly, I think his analysis of most of these characters isn't very good.
Well to be fair with a list like this, someone has to be ranked low, and eventually you’ll run out of persona 1 characters.
The video in general sucky.
@Jonah J yeah but i mean the development the persona 2 cast gets somehow makes the persona 2 cast 10x better than persona 5 or 4
As a guy who has Ann in my party the entire time im surprised to see her so low, she's very very good imo
She suffers a bit against high level mob-encounters, just because she’s always moves last and never gets a chance to set up. But against bosses... Concentrate is broken
@@kode-man23 yeah that's fair I'm at Shido in P5R and my gang is joker, Ann, ryuji and makoto with Haru swapping in
@@bcfcfan8847 It's funny that they said Mona was likely to get benched right away, I think he was my most used party member along with Queen. But ever single party member is at least useful in P5. They really did a good job of giving you a reason to use everybody.
@@kode-man23 in fairness I benched Mona immediately as he's queen but worse 😂 I never used fox either
@@kode-man23 I benched Makoto. In my eyes, Nuke damage is only good for technicals, so since Mona has heals, good damage, and a more related character (most of the time) I picked him. I used Haru a lot, but benched her after I fused a Raoul with Psycho Blast and Phantom Show. Seriously, Technical Damage is BUSTED.
Every Persona game has a PERSONAlized Experience
🚪👈 the door
You know what, I'm gonna sound like the stereotypical angry fan for a minute. I completely disagree with Ann's placement on this list. Her character is much deeper than you give her credit for. Her confidant goes into how she felt isolated because of her parent's constantly moving around, making it difficult to keep friends, how she looked up to female villains in TV shows because she loved their confidence, her deep relationship with Shiho and how they mutually inspired each other to get stronger in their personal lives, how her confidant treats her wanting to become a better model with serious narrative weight when most media treat the profession as a punchline, and so much more I can't remember off the top of my head.
Ann's character in the main story is also just as interesting, at least in the beginning of the game. You mentioned the constant sexualization she faced from her peers, but you failed to mention that most of the sexualization stemmed from the fetishization of her biracial identity. When she was younger she seriously contemplated dying her hair black because she hated how much she stood out with her naturally blonde hair. Her being mixed is an implied barrier that her classmates and society at large use to separate her from them, treating her like a foreigner in her own country. And despite this societal separation, the inability to make friends, and the constant sexualization, Ann is still one of the nicest characters in the game. Her empathy is vast, doing things like forgiving Makoto even when she said vile shit to Ann about Shiho's attempted suicide when she didn't need to. But even then, her empathy has limits.
I genuinely don't know why this moment isn't talked about more, but when Kamoshida is defeated the rest of the Thieves give her the option to deal with Kamoshida however she see fit. The other members of the group give Ann the option to straight up kill Kamoshida, and she almost does it. The only reason she doesn't is not because she thinks it wrong to kill people, not because she feels sorry for him, but because she wants him to suffer everyday for what he's done. She sees death as the easy way out, and she won't give it to him. If Ann had a slightly different philosophy, if she had taken the shot, Persona 5 would have been a very different game.
I do agree with you on the fact that Ann's character was completely bungled after the first palace. The game had a great set up for her and then only really explored it in her confidant. Her sexualization by the game itself was also incredibly annoying and contradictory to the narrative they were trying to tell with her. But that doesn't mean the character we did get was more shallow or boring in comparison to her fellow Thieves.
Also, side note at the bottom here, but Ann is straight up one of the best party members in the game. If you build her up correctly and give her decent armor, she hits like a fucking tank. Her fire magic + concentrate are the reasons I beat any of the major boss battles past Shido. The only reason I ever take her out of my party is if I'm fighting an enemy with a fire resistance.
Ann's social links are pretty interesting too. She works in an industry that pits women against each other, and she keeps getting fucked over by Mika, who she first sees as an antogonist and rival, but who she then sees as an inspiration, cause she's a confident, competent, bad bitch. + Ann's story has some interesting privilege through lines.
IMO OP is lowkey misogynistic and all the women stories and messages totally flew over his head. I can't fathom how all the best female characters are so low, but fucking incelbait Haru is so high.
@@ThotBuddle honestly even sumire/kasumi is rated way too highly on the list while ann is shat on. ann was given the short end of the stick and this is moreso due to atlus being atlus, but she deserved so much more than what she got from both OP and atlus as a whole. she is the ONLY phantom thief who is genuinely uncomfortable in their phantom thief outfit (she has a lot of dialogue in momentos about this.)
on the sumire note, sumire quite literally just felt like forced romance option. shes weirdly always on top of akiren, and its just super uncomfortable. i like her whole thing of “i always envied my sister and when she died i wanted to take her place so i could achieve that greatness” and then she realizes that isnt the right thing, but stripping that, shes just… “senpai!!!” like PLEASE. have an actual personality. so much wasted potential w her character, and her designs cute too :(
Even with the more uncomfortable elements the story presents i can get by them by simply noting the character archetype Ann symbolizes the most, the Femme Fatale, simply because those same elements are prevalent in picaresque fiction and are treated as uncomfortable there. The reason i say get by and not accept is the context, most famous Femme Fatales are seen as competent older women capable of getting out of a bind using their looks and cleverness, Ann is teenager who, while beautiful, hasnt fully got the clever part down and isn't comfortable with being sexualized. Both of which will come to her by continuing as a model.
@@cyrniki But she does have a personality? I’m confused.
Only one I'd strongly disagree with is Yosuke's placement. He was pretty much the brains of the group along with naoto, which is a crucial character in murder mysteries.
And I preferred him much more than Ryuji, when it comes to the buddy characters. There was only one part in P4 where I really wanted to slap Yosuke, but in general I really liked him.
Also, he had a really compelling and relatable conflict - being insecure of others liking him. He's actually one of my total Persona favs because of it. He's a very well written character with his personality actually being flawed sometimes in a very realistic way. Wanting to be liked by others badly but going too far because of it is -to me at least- a very relatable thing and he also is smarter than he gets credit for. He comes up with more theories than the rest of people in the Investigation Team in P4 and I'm really bummed out he wasn't romancable, as that would've been such a cool thing for especially his character, with his desire for close relationships.
Yeah they put him out there in the snow at the end with you and naoto for a reason. I'll admit looking back after my first playthrough I didn't really give him credit, but my 2nd time through I was really surprised by all he contributed, really clashed with the yosuke I remembered
Justice. For. Yosuke.
@@firewaffle222 It's sad everyone remembers him as just a stupid ladies guy whos "supposed to be a bro character" when he's so much more than that
“Oh don’t worry about the disclaimer I highly doubt this could offend me”
“In last place, Lisa Silverman”
“D*:”
6:23 “she could’ve had a compelling story”
Elly/Eriko’s Route in Persona 2: Eternal Punishment: am i a joke to you?
Seriously. Heck, I even enjoyed her character in the original.
The twist that she’s actually a massive occult nerd and not actually prim and uptight as the game suggests is a nice turn of events. Sucks to see her so low
This list's ranking criteria is absolutely terrible. Either you rank them by your own, subjective, opinion of their character arc (which is what you actually did), or you rank them by usefulness in combat; the two can't coexist organically.
Ranking makoto and rise so low shows that you've only played a persona game on the easiest difficulty if you pretended to take in to account their usefulness in combat.
There's an interesting glitch? in 5, may not be a glitch since it's still in Royal, but stat gains from weapons like Makoto's +10 to all stats gun are DOUBLED so when you get that gun she becomes a stat stick. Makoto is objectively the best support in the game, and arguably party member besides maybe Ryuji since he does more damage
@@ttarzzxz3711 how does the glitch work
@@josephnewsome2935 I don't know anything as to why it happens, just that in 5 and Royal the passive stats are doubled, I did a bit of testing with Yusuke's ultimate gun with +13 agility in Royal. Even though he didn't have a displayed agility of 99 in the stats menu, like 97, he still went first in the turn when I had a Sumire with 99 displayed agility. This means Makoto's broken since after you fuse Micheal she can have +22 to all stats if you chair Micheal during an alarm, and Joker, Akechi, and Sumire with their +6 all stats gun get inflated stats. Also since weapon strength doesn't affect Persona damage, Yusuke's best weapon is the one from an Ame-no-Uzume electric chair with 6 strength and Ryuji's best weapon is a random one found in a locked chest in the Okumura palace. With this glitch Haru is the worst party member to me since she doesn't have a good effect on any gun or weapon I know of, her magic damage is outclassed by Makoto, and her gun damage is outclassed by Ryuji and she needs too many passives to even come close. Everyone else has a decent niche
@@ttarzzxz3711 I would say Haru is better than Morgana since she has insane technical damage capabilities and I believe has higher stats than Morgana in general. Morgana is really only good for healing but even then Makoto is good enough.
Also in Royal you can make all of a party members stats maxed out with the Jazz Club making the stat boost bug pointless, so you can technically make Haru the best party member in the game
Another thing I noticed is that he ranked both Ren and Yuki/Kotone (MC’s from other persona games) on the list but Yu Narukami is nowhere to be seen, it’s also stupid to rank SILENT protagonists when their personality is basically something of your choosing, it makes me believe that he hasn’t really invested any time into some of these characters (Rise, Yukiko, Makoto, Ann, etc), and the critiques about some of them make no sense if you actually looked into their social link, the whole criteria is just all over the place
“Don’t be offended”
*puts Lisa in last*
Rise is literally the best Navi in persona given her abilities from Social links and she does develop a combat persona in persona 4 arena I think she’s the only Navi that does that
oh so Persona 4 dancing all night Navi her the persona develops another form
Did...Did you guys just say that Makoto, the easy fan favorite female of Persona 5, is not a truly beloved character?
I don't disagree, I never cared for Makoto, but...That's just not true.
Edit: Ryuji's high, all is forgiven.
Is she? I never felt like there was a consensus “best-girl” for P5 like the previous two games. And if there was I just assumed that it would be Ann
@@kode-man23 It’s definitely Makoto. If you see any polls for the P5 girls, Makoto always wins by a landslide. The only female party member more popular than her is probably Naoto.
@@meko750 I'm officially basic. Aegis, Chie/ Naoto and Makoto :/
@@kode-man23 Nothing wrong with basic, Naoto and Ryuji were always my favorites. 😛
@@kode-man23 i mean Futaba is miles ahead of Makoto Futaba is best girl and its not even close
C’mon folks, say it with me!
“I’ve been waiting for this!”
I think you misunderstood Yukiko’s character. It’s deeper than how you described her. And her character isn’t defined solely on her being Chie’s friend. Yukiko thinks that she has no other choice but no to inherit the Inn. But Yukiko doesn’t have to inherit the inn if she doesn’t want to and her believing that she’s trapped at the in and is forced to inherit it is all in her head. The staff at the inn and her parents respect any decision she makes, which Yukiko didn’t realize until until you save her and her social link. Her Shadow shows a bird in a cage, which makes you think she’s trapped at the inn, but the cage is open, showing that she has the option to leave. Yukiko staying at inn means that she’s staying with the people who care about her, who Yukiko initially thought didn’t care about and just forced expectations onto her. Her going into laughing fits means that she’s more open where before getting kidnapped, she was cold and somewhat introverted.
Love the info you chucked in there about her Shadow's cage. Yukiko's beauty helped me deal with Chie's malformed human form (shadow was better), her voice was a looooot more tolerable in P4Golden English, I look forward to the Japanese one day. Chie has chia seeds stuck in her throat or sth
That’s a lot of inn and not much else
the entire time i was worried i missed kanji in a lower slot, but seeing him at number one made my day. based and redpilled

"Morgana wont last in rotation after a wile"? Bah! Morgana is litterally one of the best healers in P5 and he even deals great damage too
Best healer yes, great damage is definitely a stretch lol
Yeah great damage is definitely a stretch. For one, he's only particularly good with Wind skills, his Lucky/Miracle Punch are pretty overshadowed by basically every party member with Physical skills, especially Ryuji with Charge and Haru with Gun Boost/Amp & One-Shot Kill
@@moshpitfuneral well morgana gets his damage before the other party members and i warent talking phys as mona dose have fine damage with wind and mona helps with getting 1 mores and batton passes are usefull in both P5 and P5R more so P5R then regular p5 but when you have a cat that can get crit skills earlier then others and have the ability to help get all out attacks and persona nagotiations
I would not say great damage, but lucky punch is really, really useful. He is not better than Makoto overall, but only because she is way too overpowered.
Morgana has a shit stat spread too. High magic stat makes him aight as a healer but he has shit stats for almost everything else and why tf does he have the highest luck stat while wielding an element that doesn't have a status effect?
Ann fought against being sexualised as a powerless prey that can be dominated at any point and time, and so, her awakening is fuelled by the power of her inner self (graceful carnivore), ready to topple (dominate) anyone who dares to think little of her.
but story and social link wise that doesn't really come across well at all
@@ivyward1393 story wise, yes, social link wise I agree
Not to mention that she put herself into those horrid situations to try to protect her friend, and continued to do so because she thought she was preventing her friend from being hurt, which broke her when she realized that it was all for not.
I'm probably gonna remember Kanji for one thing above all else: "I'M GONNA SLEEP IN THE GIRL'S TENT! THEY'VE GOT MORE BALLS THAN YOU!"

Tactics. You command your party members to use tge tactics you need. Mitsuru doesn't try to charm if you use her on full assault. It's almost like playing the game the way it tells you will make things easier
Also Yukiko in combat is FUCKING BONKERS WHAT
i've played 3-5 properly several times but now on my 20 something playthroughs, i have them all set to act freely lol makes it more interesting to see how they respond in battles especially if it's the reaper
>implying that there is a ‘proper’ way to play a game
@@antichaos so, if you set all your party members to act freely, in p4 or p5 is criticising the game for their random behaviour justified? In p3, although direct commands is not an option, the tactics really are the intended way to play. Learning to use tactics will definitely give you a massive advantage, minimizing the rng factor in combat.
this guy clearly did not play the game or used the party control mod, like ffs the game wasn't revolved around using act freely as you unlock more tactic options as you progress through the game
List skews heavily on physical combat characters.
I kind of agree with this. I was surprised when they dismissed Ann's potential in combat so easily. Her magic stat is the highest in the game, Concentration + Blazing Hell will pretty much murder everything not resistant to fire.

I used her the entire game after her recruitment
She’s well rounded. Most flexible character, works good as a support, a healer, a tank, a physical and magical attacker
@@solismax65 Exactly. Great to have someone who can cover all the bases when I need Joker out dealing damage as the heavy hitter.
Same I was like "uh....Makoto ain't that good ? " That girl was one of the strongest character of the game with the protagonist she was not my bias at all like she was annoying but dam she was one the brain of the team
Makoto and Morgana are permanents on my line, with Ryuji and Ann alternating for the 4th spot.
“As I doubt many of you would offer your spare room to a talking bear who crawled out of your television…”
Me: (having recently gotten into the Danganronpa series) “Uh… Yeah. The whole ‘No talking bears’ thing is VERY understandable, thanks! Not until he (OR SHE!) proves they’re not evil first.”
Aint no way bro said Katsuya isn't interesting as if he doesn't solo all of the detective characters on this list.
I 100% disagree with Ann's spot on this list as she has one of the best AoE magic skills in the game being Blazing hell and can learn concentrate along with able to concentrate the entire team not to mention her skills to debuff bosses like in the Shido or Okumura fight plus the healing spells you can obtain. You could seriously use her and solo the twins. Not to mention she ties in with a great story arc with the first palace her skills may not be the greatest for confidant but she does have great skills for the party and in my opinion a must for a magic build.
and lets not forget how useful her sleep is in early parts those damn technicals make or break the game a lot early on in hard difficulty
Ann pretty much a must-have for most of the bosses in the game
definetly the most buffed in royal, if you buy the amazing izanagi persona with myriad truths her trait meshes really well plus royal does push the usage of ailments way more than vanilla and the older games
I can do 3 k damage with late game ann its just insane
Haru feels like shes only in top 10 because of personal bias here, she is virtually nonexistant in P5, her only meaningful role in the game is getting you though a bioscanning door. In terms of her personal story, Haru's is just a repeat of Yusuke(my father figure is treating me as an object to advance his career and that sucks) but without the same level of attention that other member's who joined the party got. Her inclusion to the party is heavily overshadowed by the fall out between Morgana and Ryuji and after that dungeon is finished she just kind of shuts up and joins the party for the ride. I find her very similar to many of the other characters you rated in the low 30s. Is she likable and adorable? Absolutely. Is she memorable or important? Not really.
Only other rating that sounded biased was Lisa, "she has an interesting and complex character arc, but I don't like her" is how your description of her sounded. Outside of the "I find her annoying because she calls herself hot part" your description of her lines up more with how you consistently talk about the characters rated between 25-15, than the characters placed around her.
She is definitely a good party member just like the rest, but I have to 100% agree that this is a biased placement.
Yeah I agree. Don’t get me wrong, I like her and she had potential and she’s a great Party member, but she got screwed by lack of time and sadly p5 r did no favours
Naoto was late game but she was doing plot stuff in Kanjis dungeon and her role in moving the investigation forward was so pivotal she made an impression.
Would say in P5R there is more time with her. But 10 is still really high for her.
"It is not a ranking of which character you'd like to kiss the most" Then you proceed to put Haru in the top 10 with little to no mention of her combat ability while gushing over her character. Dafuq? Most P5 players already know that Haru's character was screwed over in the Okumura Arc by the whole Morgana drama and she gets very little screentime.
This list is very biased. I stopped watching after this.
LOL yeah seems like the reviewer couldn’t figure out if he wanted to rank them based on battle ability or character preference so he did both? this list is wildly all over this place
"Uchiha" lol
Got to admit, I didn't expect Haru to be so high up the list. While she's lovely and all, it just never clicked with me.
She was my least favorite in 5 ha. The dungeon is a pain in the arse too.
I think her problem is she comes along so late in the piece that most people don’t give her their full attention.
There’s usually 4 or 5 confidants people are trying to max out by that point that she kind of gets glossed over.
Also compared to Ann/Ryuji/Makoto’s more recognisable teenage problems and being actively outcast in high school most people won’t relate to her arranged marriage angle as strongly.
Also her dungeons a pain in the arse…
@@bestgirlchie534 definitely doesn’t help that the Phantom Thieves barely interact with Haru before you actually recruit her. Not to mention that you need lvl 5 proficiency before you reach rank 2 of her confidant and in my case Proficiency was the last social stat I worked on which meant I didn’t get past rank 1 in my first play through.
Agreed.
I honestly though she'll be very low in the list (ande definitely lower than Yusuke), and as the list advanced, I thought: Damn, they forget about her? :0. But in the end, Triple jump seems to like the cinnamon roll
The fact that they put two of the early party members from persona 5 so low on the list tells me either they never fully played P5 or they chose to completely ignore those two in P5 Both Ann and Yusuke have tremendous character development and on a side note Ann is tied for best healer in game
Also the fact that they said the central theme of Persona 5 was "breaking the law for the sake of justice" which isn't even a secondary theme in the game tells me all I need to know about there experience with persona 5
P5 is one of my faviroute games but I hate Ann. She doesn't shut up and her devolpment is very little tbh. Yuseke is slightly better but he is pretty useless in combat at in general I never connencted to him. Those 2 are the two weakest characters in the game, and they deserve there placements. If we're are alking base P5 then it's the stupid cat bu they slightly improved him in P5R. Akechi is easily the best, Maruki the best charcater, and I always liked Kasumi and Ryuji.
p5 is my favorite game of all time and between og 5 and royal i have 5 playthroughs and imo Ann has probably one of the greatest growths in the whole persona series because admittedly she is rather bland at the start watching her growth whether in regards to her reconciliation with her best friend or her resolve in regards to her modeling. she is by far the best lovers social link in persona and im saying that as someone who loves yukari from p3 to death
How is Ann a good healer. She died so easily. If she was my healer I would be at a massive disadvantage
@@metallife365 I don't think she did grow that much. Her confident is: She wants to be strong, she wants to be like Mika, Mika all g, now she strong. Of course that's oversimplified but most ranks are going with her as she says wacky way on how she will be strong, then you saying that that's not how she should become strong. In the story she has no conflicts or any relationships to any of the late game protagonists/antagonists. In battle she is the best other than Joker, Tripple jump got that very wrong. But as a charcater, she starts as pretty girl who wants to model and ends on pretty girl who models. So, imo, she has basically no devolpment. Compare that to Ryuji, he rectifies his relationship with the track team, descovers and reaafirms his beliefs, decides to not rejoin the track team dspite being able to because he feels he doesn't need it anymore etc. He has conflicts with Morgana and we get to see him being an asshole which helps us understand who he is. He is 10000x beter than Ann, who as I said doesn't really evolve. Oh and they are 100% right, she talks so much about wanting her personallity to come through not her looks, but then for the rest of the game she gloats about her looks and in general is potrayed as the pretty girl. Like wtf even his her personality, all we see is her modeling and her relationship with Mika. She does nothing wrong ever, she never makes a tough decsion and her ideals remian the same. I just realised she is actually a terrible charcater. Welp
The ranking is weirdly biased towards brodude characters and cool looking characters but to each their own I guess.
Also weird to mention no spoiler but showing some of the biggest spoilers of the franchise on screen at the same time.
I still had a good time watching the video and it was nice to see some less represented characters like Ren and Zei or even Eleonora.
Uhh ann has the highest magic damage output in the game especially after getting concentrate. So saying she's weak is a lie especially in base P5 where her, ryuji, makoto and joker is the best party in the game. Morgana is considered the weakest of the party then Yusuke if its base p5.
Eh, I think that more depends on what kind of enemy you're fighting and your playstyle.
Joker is the Jack of all trades
Mona is the healer
Skull is the physical hitter
Panther is the magic hitter and doubles as an alright healer
Fox is the baton passer
Queen is the buffer and serves as general utility
Noir has everything else, including karns and amarita drop
Violet does nothing
And I’m the boss breaker
@@goroakechi6126 if "does nothing" means "is good against most enemies in the one palace she's available in" I agree.
@@edmg7
By the point you get her, you’re going to have a bunch of personas that can do everything she can better than her. Cendrillion has about as much worth as Sandaphalon.
@@goroakechi6126 the same could be said of any party member. In my first playthrough I had a Persona that could substitute for each and every one of them.
Edit: actually, scratch that "each and every" statement. I didn't have a Persona that could do everything Haru could.
Haru's placement pleases me
Her Beauty Thief and general absurd behavior in that scene made me love her to death, it hurts friendzoning her(I won't this run, I swear)
As a party member, she's phenomenal tho, with Gun and Psy skills, the fact she learns One-Shot Kill and Gun Boost & Amp, her grenade launcher, hoooo she's good
I agree kind of, after P5 Royale. Before she just doesn't get enough time at all. Not her fault but it's true. I also think they were hard on Yuskue here if ranking Haru high :) but know not all the characters are for Every one
The point of Ann is that she takes back the power of her sexuality. Not letting others and past trauma define her view of herself.
I agree! Ann and Yusuke are actually my favorite characters in P5, so I was sad to see them so low, but I understand why people think so little of Ann. Her strength as the femme fatale type character doesn't get to shine through as much, because there isn't really a balance between the moments she is confident, strong, and powerful, and the moments where she is a pawn like in Shido's palace and Yusuke's arc. I think it would've been much better if she herself was reluctantly volunteering to do that so she can grow stronger on her own and so it didn't feel like she was being manipulated.
That would be nice if it actually happened in the game.
@@RedGoner Well...she never gets used by anyone again in the game or in the sequel like she was in kamoshidas arc, so it did happen.

So here’s the list of things you might like Persona games:
Persona 1: Learning about the origin of Persona’s.
Persona 2 Innocent Sins: a continues of P1 but with better gameplay and a solid story writing.
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment: The continuation of Innocent Sins and answer to a lot of unanswered questions also already have everything you want in future persona games.
Persona 3/FES/Portable: Great Story telling and some relatable characters.
Persona 4: Funny and have the best party members.
Persona 5: just great visuals and gameplay.
Why is Yusuke so fucking low? He's awesome!
Why did I have to scroll this far down to find a fellow Yusuke enjoyer?
I liked his confidant story but I find him to be useless in combat
I agree, I don't like how they sorted tha list :\
I would love to see your persona teams for the final 2 dungeons of each game cause this list is wild. I only played the 5th entry so I cant really comment on others but Ann and Makoto being that low is hella suspect
That's a list with so odd opinions, as different from mine as those of the general public that i stranged on the beginning, but in the end I kinda loved it so much. I never meet anyone that likes Chie so much how u do, and this is amazing. I was so surprised seeing your top 10 that I forgot the people have differents tastes from others. My english is not a big deal but with the knowledge I have, I could enjoy your video the same way. Good work man, and good list.
Idk what your on about for Yu’s character it’s fucking incredible probably the best blank slate in the games and given the most personality as a protagonist thanks to stuff like P4D, P4A and the likes
Generic protagonist even with spin offs, probably shows the least personality in his own game I couldn't even find any hints of personality in his dialouge other than making jokes in serious moments.
....so they gave him a personality outside of the most important thing he appeared in?
Isnt that worse then doing nothing at all?
@@kaizer712 Well, you are supposed to be put in the shoes of the protagonist in the game and basically go your own route
@@splendid6064 considering, Tatsuya, Maya, Makoto, Kotone and Ren... that's flatout not true.
all 5 of those protagonists have very clear and distinct personalities that most likely will not line up exactly with the player's.
aside from Yu, the only other protagonist that is a self insert is Naoya; its so absolutely clear that Persona protags are not meant to be self inserts, which is why Yu stands out so much for being so... plain.
@@helloitsme472 I’ve played persona 5 once and royal twice I have no idea what kind of personality joker would have other than being a nice dude and being a show off in the meta verse . I’ve only played p3 once I hated Tartarus and Ng+ made it even more boring so I stopped but makoto just doesn’t stick out to me like at all I can’t recall anything much other than I don’t care. *proceeds to talk about nothing but the characters themselves*
Overall it's a good list, my only issue is that you state their usefulness in combat and then rank every Persona 1 character so low.....like, you know they can pretty much equip any other persona right? Shouldn't that count for something?
How to say you didn't understand persona's story without saying it directly: One Hour Video Edition

the best thing about rise is toward the heaven dungeon she has the sp healing spell that kicks in automatically after every battle, it’s nearly impossible to run out of sp at that point in the game thanks to rise
I’m so excited to read the measured and reasonable comment section of this video.
"saying shinjiro is a party is a spoiler in itself so I'm gonna keep it brief" but he shows akechi death scene lmao
Imagine thinking Yukiko isn't an insanely good party member combat wise and calling her just "decent"
This guy has no idea what he is talking about. His ranking is all over the place.
I stopped listening to his opinions about the persona 4 cast quite quickly. Yukiko and rise bad? OUTCLASSED BY OTHERS? give me a break he's never picked up the game
Do every Final Fantasy party member ranked (Spinoffs and MMORPGS excluded)
I’d love to hear your well thought out options!
Why is Haru ranked higher than most of her allies? Anyone can have their opinions but I just want to know if anyone can honestly say they played through her father's palace, maxed out her confidant (and found out what's in the coffee she gives Joker), played Persona 5 Strikers and not dislike her at least.
Okay I want to defend the story of both Makoto (Niijima) and Rise.
I would argue that Makoto is the Phantom Thief whose story most aligns with the themes of Persona 5 so much so that her rebellion is the best and most honest of the characters. As the student body president and younger sister of a Public Prosecutor there if a very defined idea of justice and responsibility surrounding Makoto. When she rebels against the systems that molded her and her sister it is something amazing. Additionally in combat I would say Makoto Performs exceptionally well. She provides a lot of Utility with her ability to buff allies defence and her Nuclear Damage is good with a decently high Magic Stat. She also can heal the party to full and provide good physical DPS with her skills and fists.
Regarding Rise. She is the character who's story is the most thematic to the themes of Persona 4. Persona 4 is themed around media and how information can be clouded. Rise's struggle with her identity as well as her origin as an idol put her front and center within these themes. How she finds clarity in herself is akin to clearing away the fog that surrounds information.
I would argue that Makoto and Rise serve a similar function to Yukari in the way that all three of them are closely tied to the themes of the game.
Alright cheers for including the first three persona games boys (and girls), love you
Revelations: Persona is my second favorite Persona game after Persona 3 Portable. The PSP remake would take its place if it had the same music.
Just the graphic with Ben and Peter personas are worth the video
Great work everyone
This guy said that yosuke is overshadowed by JUNPEI. A character that in the definitive version of the game he is in doesn’t even have a social link and his story is the least relatable of the sidekicks. Meanwhile yosuke is the best friend everyone has, he has flaws but through his social link he overcomes them and becomes a better person. I still like him and his story more than Ryuji but i can see the argument while the latter has a better story
Idk Junpei is "Da Man" as he would have you know
@@conormcgough3966 He is literally ranking characters based on which ones he likes. Literally he is not being objective with his ranking. I know you are joking but since we are supposed to be having discussions in the comments might as well say it. He ranks some of the best characters combat wise lower than characters who are close to useless. Even his number 1, Kanji. He is not the most useful character in persona (although i adore his character and story). He is not even the best in the game he first appeared in. Naoto is the best party member in Persona 4 due to providing amazing utility and damage at the same time. No other character does this. Also Rise has the most useful passive skills you can have. Seeing Masao so low disappoints me. his early game is great if you put him middle front. Plus, his actions in the story made him memorable, mostly always fighting against Nanjo's bull, and he changes through the story due to being called out by Masao. The video from the first entries really feels like they didn't play the early persona games too much. This list is very poor looking through it, I feel like they just threw darts at a board to choose it.
Wow, I can see that a lot of effort clearly went into marking this. Great job everyone, keep it up!
Rise is quite literally the best party member and navigator in Persona. She's the only person that can revive you from the dead, she can block deadly attacks, give heat riser to everyone in your party, give you enemy weaknesses, and can locate treasure just to name a few.
I agree with Kanji. Though I never played persona 1, 2, external punishment, 3, and 5 (I'm currently playing Persona 4 Golden), out of all the characters, Kanji Tatsumi is my number one favorite in the series along with Naoto. I'm familiar with most of P5 and P4 main casts but not much with the P3 main cast
Yep Kanji and naoto and teddy are my faves from golden , I love the entire cast though if I'm being fair I love every member
Can we have all Tekken characters ranking from you, guys?
Hope they don't do my main Hwaorang too dirty if they do it lol
putting Ann that low was reason enough to disregard this entire list
Nothing will ever be able to top the ending of Persona 3 and Aigis's speech. She'll always be my favorite simply because of her story. She's one of the biggest reasons Persona 3 is, and will forever be, my favorite game.
That’s the reason Persona 3 protagonist for me ranks above the rest
"Makoto Yuki has a unique personality"
Makoto Yuki: "I don't care"
"Yu Narukami has a unique personality"
Yu Narukami: "Behold, the myriad truths"
"Joker has a unique personality"
Joker: "Begone"
See how dumb it was to based a character's entire personality based on a catchphrase, neglecting the other things that defines them?
God bless Yosuke and Kanji they made p4 so good I loved how their humor made the game so enjoyable
You could’ve just labeled this “ranked from my least favorite to my favorite” and it would have been more accurate.
I've never played any of the Persona games why on earth am I absolutely watching this whole thing front to back.
You should play it :)
Good stuff as always! Gotta say though, never had any issue keeping pretty much every party member strong enough to stay in the rotation for P5R.
Yukiko is a must have party member through-out the whole game! I'm not much of a Yukiko fan character wise. Though, I can just ignore how cracked her gameplay is. She carried me through the Ameno-sagiri fight. I can say the same for Ann (p5). Ann was a influential character story wise, and without her on the team, the Phantom Thieves wouldn't be who they. She has one of the best stories in Persona 5, even if Atlus totally just disregarded her and her whole message the entire rest of the game for fan-service scenes. She can heal and be a total shot gun during battles. How can somebody hate that?
I can relate, she's the only medic (appart from teddie), and she does really good damage, also the last healing spell she unlocks is BROKEN, seriously as long as she has enough magic you're not going to lose.
@@felipealfaro9389yukiko's insane amount of sp, with her insane skills, and rise's sp recover is so broken
Haru is cute and her relationship with her father is sad, but there is no way in hell that she's a better character than Mitsuru.
Yeah don’t get me wrong she has POTENTIAL, but she never got a chance to live up to it. No way she’s better than Futaba or Yosuke or any of them
Haru is a great character. You just feel less connected to her because she's the last character you get so you spend the least time with her. But she has an interesting story and is good in battle. Mitsuru has a strong personality so you'll either really like her or hate her.
@@mattryan5706eh. The fact that her social link isn't even based on her father, but rather the stress she feels from having to inherit it is so unrealistic (considering she wishes he was alive in the 3rd chapter) and makes her feel like she doesn't actually make sense. She's a fine character, but doesn't have enough personality to back it up (she literally is just the kind one)
I think youve been way too harsh on Ken. For me he was an essential party member. Because he had a lot of the benefits as someone like yukari or mitsuru, but his AI was a LOT better than theirs. He learns recarm spells and healing spells early on. Unlike yukari, he can actually hit the fucking enemy with his basic attack and does pretty decent damage with it. He doesnt do anything annoying like mitsuru with her useless status effect spells. He does two different kinds of spell damage (one of which is also a very effective instakill) and has a skill that does additional physical damage to knocked down enemies which is really great for damage chaining. His weakness to darkness was only a minor problem as he'd rarely actually be hit by a dark attack and could easily revived by the MC or another party member. And just boost his evasion! Thats a thing you can do? He was easily the best all rounder party member and a great healer. I will die on this hill.
Says that there is zero spoilers show’s a very specific point for number 17
Not gonna lie, part of me wants to play Persona 5 Royal after this list because I have it in my library and I want to know what the deal is with so many of these characters. But given how long it takes me to finish games, it would probably take me several months to beat it, even with a guide to help me out. Lovely work as usual, everybody. Keep doing what you’re doing.
P5 was my first JRPG it's basically the perfect first game to try out and P5R fixes do many issues base game had it's worth it
Well worth playing Royal if you get chance, there are a lot of little changes throughout with new characters, new events, quality of life improvements, locations etc but then big changes at the end if you fulfil certain conditions to unlock the third semester with new story, dungeon, playable character etc.
P5R is so good, man. You won’t be disappointed.
Only complaint I got is with Teddie. Teddie is more like Yukiko than Chie as he learns all vesions of single and multi target Ice spells like how Yukiko does with Fire spells, and like Yukiko he also gets healing and revival spells. He also gets attack and defense buffing spells.
Simply put Teddie is the best party member for versatility alone.
Great content, can you make a "From worst to best" of every X-Men, Looney Tunes or South Park games next? Pick whatever you want from those three. Have a nice day!

Ann in the party a liability? Highest Magic stat of all members (not counting protagonist), severe damage skills, concentrate, being able to debuff the enemy and as a nice bonus inflicting ailments and the ability to heal. A weak defense isn't that good of a reason, considering Morganas is worse. Yusuke isn't that much better in pure damage output, as he gets outshined in both physical and magic attacks.
Also breaking the law for justice is a central theme for the game? Did we play the same Persona 5?
Debuffs aren't nearly as useful in P5. She doesn't get Concentrate until WAY later in the game, and around that time Ryuji gets the physical version kf it as well.
Makoto is an all around, Morgan's is the best when it comes to support skills. Other Members do what she does but better and have different utilities at that
@@kai_824 sure debuffs aren't as usefull in P5 compared to, for example mainline SMT, there are far from useless however. Why fight buffed up enemies if you could fight regular enemies instead.
Magic skills are different from physical skills. For one physical skills cost HP so if you use two high costing skills in a row it could leave you open to a sudden hard hit by the enemy (Caroline & Justine would like to say hello), wich could lead to death or near death, a consequence you don't need to fear using magic.
Sure Makoto is better as an all-round fighter and Morgana is the best healer, but Ann is the best magic attacker, so if you can't or shouldn't use physical skills (first phase Shido for example) Ann is you best bet. She also learns skill that can put the enemy to sleep, in random battles its the best ailment you can inflict, if you want to end the fight quickly.

I first learned of this franchise in the mid-2000s when P3 came out. I personally could never play the game due to the nature of how Personas came out because it was triggering since I was suicidal at one point in my life and seeing that just really affected me in a bad way (I am fine now btw and love myself more then anyone else). I had friends trying to convince me to play Persona 4, telling me the game didn't have that 'gun effect' anymore but by then I was getting pickier about my games due to how much they cost since I was in college at the time and I'd rather play games I knew I would love. And the reason why I never got P5 was because I am not into play super long games anymore lol. There are exceptions, like if the game is from a franchise I love (KH3 and Breath of the Wild being perfect examples). Regardless, I did watch a let's play of PS5 and I can see why it's a beloved franchise and have a lot of respect for it.
Bit odd that you'd rank Akihiko above Aigis in terms of gameplay, though both of them being around the same level is fair. They cover very similar ground in terms of support (Dekunda vs Dekaja, -kunda vs -kaja) and Akihiko can effectively support earlier in the game, but Aigis can do significantly more damage, largely trivializes regular enemies through the sheer burst that she offers in Orgia Mode which you can use non-stop against them as regular fights should never last longer than 3 turns, and doesn't clash with Mitsuru and Yukari in terms of element usage as she's weak to elec and is purely physical herself. Normally this wouldn't matter, but Charm is a *big* fucking deal in P3 with some of the harder bosses, particularly in Tartarus, making very good use of it, and even as you're rightly giving Junpei the credit he deserves you're still pretty massively underrating Mitsuru's incredible damage output and Yukari's unstoppable healing and ability to rez, both of which allow you to focus as much as possible on doing maximum DPS which is easily the way to go in P3. Certainly helps that her elemental weakness can be covered much sooner than Akihiko's, as Gabriel and her Null Ice item come so late into the game that you may even be below the level required to fuse her by the time you get to Nyx, which is what happened to me in my first ever run over a decade ago. Way I see it, gameplay-wise Akihiko deserves to be S tier as he's basically the central point of P3's backup squad (him, Junpei and Koro) for early-mid bosses that make heavy use of Zio abilities and really excels in that niche, but Aigis deserves to be outright #1 as she's the central point of P3's main squad (her, Mitsuru and Yukari) and is massively OP from start to finish.
End of the day though, the gameplay is simple yet diverse enough that anyone can make different use of different characters and still win without major issues. Your explanations aren't half-bad, really, though I would've liked the list to be focused entirely on gameplay instead of using odd story bits here and there.
Hoo boy. Some hot takes on this list. I mean, it's your take, so it's fine, but we clearly have some different values for usefulness I'm combat for some characters or how valuable certain character's narratives are haha

Persona 3 is my favorite - I played as the female character. While Akihiko easily became my best boy in the franchise, I was surprised on how much I grew to like Junpei as well.
