@Justin Archiblad you dont learn about Indian history because if they add it to your course CORRECTLY then they have to give credit to ancient Indians for many amazing discoveries and philosophies whose credit they give to mostly greeks and other civilizations
"India conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border."- Hu Shih, Chinese Philosopher, Essayist nd Diplomat... (India=Indian Civilisation).
Ancient china fully influenced by indian, ancient greece got knowledge of arabs and arabs got from indian, indian civilistaion and history is olders than 30000 years , Everyone says ramayan or MAHABHARAT was myth but thats indian's history not mythology, scientist founded proofs about MAHABHARATA and RAMAYANA
Aryabhata was from Patna (Bihar), Brahmagupta was from Bhinmal (Rajasthan), Bhaskara I was from Bori (Maharashtra), Bhaskara II was from Bijapur (Karnataka), Madhava was from Aloor (Kerala), etc. All of these Mathematicians and Astronomers were from different parts of India, all contributing to India's collective civilizational progress. Let no one (especially the converted ones) try to divide us! "The country (varṣam) that lies north of the ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called Bhāratam; there dwell the descendants of Bharata." -Vishnu Purana (text from 1st millennium BCE).
Oh, my fellow Indian... Takshashila was just one of the centers of knowledge to be decimated by ignorant Islamic forces... Check out the "libraries" of Sharada, Pushpagiri, Vikramashila, Nalanda, Valabhi etc... "Library" is a small word for such places of international congregation for pursuit of knowledge and application of sciences. :)
@@varunmanjunath9123 I agree my friend, numerous schools of wisdom were destroyed when those ignorant fools came here. Mohammed bin Qasim and Allauddin Khilji are only few names
R3DF4NG so as Hank points out in the video, Panini wrote the first work seriously studying the structure of and rules governing Sanskrit, and near as anyone can tell, he was the first to do so for any language. So he is, in a very real sense, the first recorded linguist in history, and his work in Sanskrit is widely regarded as the first example of linguistics. It’s worth noting, too, that the word “linguistics” didn’t come into wide use until the early 20th century. “Philology” was the common term before that. For instance, Tolkien considered himself a philologist, not a linguist, as that term didn’t really exist.
Aaah ok, got it. Thank you Matt. :) I dont know if this falls into the linguistics field, but there are rumors that sanskrit is a perfected language. what does that mean? It said you can concise a paragraph in English into a few sentences in Sanskrit. This property of the language its used to make computer codes shorter etc.. Or how the meter it is written in(i think that's what it is called) is mathematical. how true are these claims?
R3DF4NG well there are different kinds of languages which express thoughts in different ways. For instance, in some Native American languages you can write an entire English sentence as one giant word. Sanskrit, in contrast, only makes extensive use of nominal compounds - in this way, it’s much the same as German. I (and I’d say most other linguists) would balk at calling that a “better” option, much less using a term like “perfected.” Linguistically speaking, Sanskrit is fascinating, but it’s nothing particularly special - there’s nothing it does that many other languages out there don’t also do. I would note though that the reason Panini made his grammar is because Vedic Sanskrit (the ancient form of the language) is considered to be spiritually important to Hinduism, and this is likely the reason you’ve heard these claims, rather than due to any true scholarship.
@Arbab Amin Nop, You got it wrong. what he mean is about world media and historians that how they burried nicola tesla to elevate thomas edison. same way they burried India to elevate Greeks.
i dont know why peter brought the 'moslems here' India is not islamic country, pakistan and bangladesh are.....hence the seperation after british left India was diverse cultural land from start. India never affiliate to any religion. Outsiders broadly classify us as hindus and indians, name derived from indus river at north west. The so-called hindus make up 70% of india, But did we become hinduist state. No. We believe in science and dharma. No messaiah, no miracles, no drama. Dont compare india to any islamic state. Also if u knew, buddhism and sikhs also belong to india. We didnt persecute them saying they were non-hindus. India respects all religions and diversity. Pakistan is having tough time trying to put false propaganda that hindus hate islamic states. Lol there are 20% muslims in india by population %, why are they not going to pakistan or bangladesh. Coz we are not religious or anti-religious.
Babylonian Mapping/Gaming true bro Modern religions don't like prior heritage of the land before that religion was introduced. So what I am saying is, not surprised. Why don't they agree that civilizations are good in some aspects without religion being the reason for it. Also Persian , Greek, Norse, Aztec .....so on
Sad that still it's called Arabic numerals. We should start calling it Indian numerals to respect the original creators. Even our own Indian text books call it Arabic numerals. Such is the state of colonial hangover
Ganesh Nayak Yes.History books should be rewritten without adding bias but definitely after highlights the things that we have achieved in the past. Its almost as if our history books castigate and reprimand us and glorify the west.
There are few misconceptions I would like to clear to every one. Indian history was subdued and underplayed by many nations of the world except south east and the East Asian . The primary due to the colonial experience here are some facts : 1:- India knew hypotenuse theorem way before pythogoras .cited in Baudhyana sulbasturas it also deals with a lot of geometry intricate calculations, etc. 2:- India has the oldest system of architecture in vastu shastra which is very symmetrical and far superior to Hellinistic Greece or Rome of virtuvan . 3:- India has six schools of traditional logic system Buddhist logic system and jain logic system . Unlike the Greek who followed the fallibility and in fallibility , Buddhist had four stages of logical out put and Jain's had six .This is a fundamental difference in the metaphysics that evolved in a rich mathematical system . 4:- India was best in metallurgy zinc, steel and iron wootz steel was the best until the 18th century . wrought iron was the best until the European enlightenment . Wootz steel was exported to Damascus which was used by the Muslims to win crusades. It became known as the Damascus steel . 5:- India is the originator of the heliocentric model . Aryabhatta in his book Aryabhatia proposed the model in the 4th century AD. he also defined sidereal motion ,equionxes , etc 6:- India is the originator of the decimal place value system and the number zero (0) only this is acknowledged 7:- India is the originator of algebra Al-jabbar translated Indian algebra in the 7th century and took it to middle east and later Al- Jabbar was called in Europe as Algebra . 8:- India is the originator of pi infinite series ,cousin series science series and the basis of calculus all this cited in Bhaskar acharya's work and also the infinite series evolved during Madhavacharyas work in Kerala . All of this before the 14th and the 15th century way before calculus was created . 9:- Trigonometry was invented independently in India. All the stupas in Hindu temples follow extremely accurate arc values The Sanchi stupa is a perfect hemispherical dome and present atleast during 3rd century and still exists now . 10:- the speed of the light estimation was mentioned first in the Atharva veda which is atleast 1500 BC .Also this was a more spiritual experience ,it was mentioned Never the less , along with this was the concept of infinity , negative numbers and metaphysics or zero . 11:- There are still 35 million untranslated texts waiting for scholars . Thats all the Indian civilization combined . 12:- pananis grammer grammer composed in classical sanskrit during sixth century BC is still used in computational linguistics and natural language processing infact all of the Indio- Aryan language used panninis grammer . 13:- Regarding mind science models, the Upanishads stand out as the ancient piece on mind science .it also evolved into yoga , Tantra all the School of classical thoughts Upanishads are atleast 1000 BC or earlier . 14:- The oldest text in metered poetry is Rigveda which is now dated atleast 3500 BC or earlier . So , I understand history is not thought well to present Indians or people from elsewhere but in denial of civilization and citing it primitive people is ridiculous . There are thousands of evidences and we'll preserved texts that say to the opposite . All this texts that I have sites is well and alive. This is surviving despite the desecration of 12 , University's of ancient India including TAXILLA,NALANDA, VIKRAMSHILLA etc India also had other pieces of architecture the Shilpa shastra on art ,the Natya shastra on poetry the Panchatantra which is a precursor of Aesob's Fables it has the Dharma Dharma shastra on universal ethics ,the Arthashastra on state craft and economics , kamashastra on sexuality and Yogasutras on yoga it also has the mimamsa school of philosophy which is a comprehensive School of rational laws .Nyayashtra on school of logic ,agama shastra on Tempe building and plenty more . At the end it has the world oldest epic Ramayana and world largest in Mahabharata. So I request every one not to consider old Hindu civilization like a primitive civilization .it had a 1500 year's of classical period which is more than the Greeco-Roman-arabic classical period put together the civilization extended to whole of south east Asia right up to cambodia where we have the largest Hindu temple in Angkor wat and the largest empire of the end of classical period .Namaste 🙏
India is indeed a big proponent of knowledge in science way back then. I love how they connect the concept of Religion and Science, base on how they understand both. Hats off to Panini for being the first to study linguistics which opened them to venture into musics. I also appreciate how they study natural philosophy and contemplating their belief in God by consistently doing their rituals up to this time. Vedas functioned to teach people how a society should be, It adds up to their thought of mirroring the cosmos into social context. Really interesting fact! Maurya Empire was exceptional, sponsoring research, into astronomy, hydraulic engineering and forestry. Ashoka's act if protection towards animals and giving them right is inspiring. Thanks to their good governance which I think powerful to the development of their country and the indians as a whole. I have to agree that even today, the debate between pure and applied science of which is more useful cannot be compared because of chinese and greek influences to Indians. They cannot be separated, enough said.
Actually Hinduism is not easy to comprehend It's passed on orally and alot of texts were destroyed Vedas contain no names of Gods we worship today in our lives So Vedas are not everything For example Energy has 3 aspect 1. The Indian/Hindu worldview doesn’t start with God. It starts with understanding the nature of the universe and codifying different aspects of the universe with a symbolic object called Deva/Devathas. The western worldview starts with God, All Powerful All Knowing Entity who is up in the sky has Created the World and Human is his best creation and our duty is to praise him and serve him and abide by the rules he laid and the Rule book is Bible/Quran/Torah.

Harman Singh in that case. Hinduism has also not originally originated in India. The first chapters of rigved were composed in Afghanistan and Pakistan side.
Harman Singh .... Well ok..I meant Vedanta not hinduism. Ya I know Hinduism is more of a culture or tradition rather than a one fixed religion. The title Hindu was given to the people of Indian subcontinent by the outside invaders.. Regardless of one's belief. If they were from Indian subcontinent they were called Hindus. So wouldn't that make us Hindus as well? Because we all have Indian surnames like dhillon, Kapoor, sidhu, gill, Arora, sodhi, Bedi. Etc. Which means our ancestors were from India. Wouldn't we be then considered Hindus theoretically?
Harman Singh plz don't get me wrong brother. I'm not trying to question my own faith. I'm proud to be Sikh. I just genuinely want to know what everyone thinks. So I was just curious about ur thoughts. I know for a fact that Sikhism is completely seperate religion. Different from vedic religion and Islam
Harman Singh ... Khalsa is an Arabic term I agree. It comes from the word khaalis. Meaning pure/pious. But Sikh word is Indian. It is derived from the Sanskrit word shishya (शिष्य) meaning student or disciple.

Wait, whoever watching this video should keep in mind the face that Hinduism and Bhuddhism were not two separate "religions" they were very much similar dharmas, bhuddhism was a reformed form of Hinduism, in the ancient temple of konark we can see a bhuddha carved in it and in Sri Lanka we can see Gaja Lakshmi carved in a bhuddhist monument, in bhuddhist countries like Thailand Hindu Gods are still worshipped in shrines, and Hinduism, bhuddhism and jainism are not religions but are Dharmas, it is very different from what western understand by religion, and Ashoka was no convert or anything because conversion does not exist in dharmas. He embraced the philosophy and still paid homage to the Gods and Brahmanas.

Actually chandragupta was trained personally by an philosopher Acarya Chanakya. Chanakya took chandragupta as his pupil bc the King of magadh wasnt fit to sit on the throne. Chanakya knew about the Greeks long before they sat foot on the indian subcontinent. Thats why he trained chandragupta to become a king that will protect and unite aryavrata (india) so that it can withstand an greek invasion.
Ancient India had such a level of greatness that it actually contributes a bit negatively towards her outlook TODAY. After she was crippled by foreign interventions, many contemporary Indians dwell in past greatness, simply getting by with life. There are no grand ideas, nor are there cunning plans for governance and long term well being of the populous. Of course, there are few with vision, but an average Indian today is simply concerned with themselves and their immediate surroundings. An average Indian today is occupied in putting food on the table, educating their children at the best of their abilities and then finally get old and die.
I was watching a libertarian debate vs progressives last week A girl on the libertarian team (a ethnic Indian) said “call me racist, but the British occupation of India was the greatest thing to ever happen to our people, without them, we would’ve stayed a backwards, dirt pour, disease ridden nation” And I was like “...let’s forget for a sec that you’re a libertarian claiming a forceful government occupation over a countries culture, economy, and daily life was “the greatest thing ever” and go back to....what the hell are you talking about?”
Even the U.K and for that matter all of europe was dirt poor, disease ridden and backward until they started colonising the asia and africa. Some countries in europe were dirt poor until very recently like 40 yrs ago .Italy and Portugal and even nordic country like Finland are such example. People just tend to forget these things. and when we become rich they will forget our poverty too.
Winners write history... British occupation of India has led to an unhealthy westernisation of Indian culture. Exaggeration of both the inherent failures and the glorious achievements of India is very common.
how was the British occupation the greatest thing to happen to us on Earth....we are still backwards, dirt poor, disease ridden nation....... although it's a fact that we would have been not United if it were not for the British to come and take over....its a question that u would wanna ignore... really it's a tough one to answer...if u have a habit to think from both sides of the coin
Twam should have been written as tvam - (त्वम् before sandhi). There is no 'w' in Sanskrit, just a v that gets pronounced that way after consonants. Also, it should be karoṣi (करोषि), not karoti. Karoti is the third person (he, she, it); karoṣi is the second person, which is what you used. The full sentence with sandhi would be written as: tvaṃ kiṃ karoṣi (त्वं किं करोषि).
LotusEater I don't even understand what you're asking. All I said was "Twam" is actually "tvam" and should be written that way. The hard "v" sound and soft "w" sound are both allophones of the same letter "v". In Devanāgarī they are both written as व् so why should they be written differently in Latin script?
You didnt say that, you said there is no W, infact there is no W in english too. There is no W is any language, all W are soft v hard v whatever "V" sound. You made it sound like Sanskrit doesnt have a w while english has. I agree that tvam is better written with a v, i was arguing about the concept of how a letter SOUNDS, and sanskrit has way more letters than english. Logically there is no W, also what is a J?? we never say JAY in a word do we? we never say doubleyouu in a word, its just a V sound, technically there is no W.
So many Pakistani guys hating in the comments... even saying that modern Indians are not descended from the people described in the videos, while at the same time they want to claim Arab heritage, and build mosques in their capital that look like Bedouin tents, and name their missiles etc. for Afghan and Farsi invaders, who actually murdered people who lived in modern day Pakistan.
Blood Fire Drake lmao your nation? Your nation itself claims that it is the legacy of Turks and Afghans, it is India that is the descendant of Bharat, and tbh all these glories belong to Pakistanis as well seeing as they're really the same ethnicities as Indians, but you can't take it away from the Indians either. And as for the continuity of the ancient Indian civilization, even Iqbal has said "Mit gaye Roma, Misr aur Yunnani... Kuchh toh baat hai ki hasti mit ti nahin hamari... dushman raha h saara jahan hamara."

Whoah this is an intense argument. Besides wasn’t Pakistan a part of India at one point? So the achievements are both of theirs. Anyways many modern Indians are descended from these people. And many modern Pakistanis are as well
Pakistan was one with India,Not a part of it.We are not an extent of India. We are our own nation. The Indians are descent from their ancestors,We are are descended from our ancestors, the Indus civilization and Aryans.Don't tell me that the Tamil, central and east Indians are Aryans.Even the north of India can barely be called Indic.

I think the British wrongly defined the borders of India. India should have consisted of India, Pakistan and parts of Afghanistan and Persia which when brought together together excluding the some Dravidian states in the south gives you 'Aryavartha' which literally translates to 'Abode of Aryans'.
Nope. The Mughal invasion happened. Then came various European powers like Portuguese etc. Britishers simply came because they had heard so much about India from their predecessors.
The very first University human made, was in ancient India named Takshashila, in Nalanda. Then 900 (700+200) years of foreign rule destroyed many potential. The fall of maurya empire happened when the last King ashoka started spreading Buddhism after witnessing a bloody war. And then the kingdom fell apart.

The Indian religion is not at all about scrificing animals to secure a certain social class, Hinduism is a guidence toward acquiring true knowledge. That can never be defined by this derogatory custom (animal slaughter) of a few.
According to academic scholars, the compilation of the Rig Veda began from around 1800-1500 BCE. That is 3500-3800 years ago. Do you really think societies, religions, and belief systems stay the same for nearly four thousand years? Here in Nepal, Hindus still sacrifice animals to their gods, and the Brahmins here eat mutton. Also, while I was reading a selection of short Buddhist Sutras (from the Pali Canon) and Jataka Tales almost a decade ago, I began noticing a curious pattern: the Hindu gods Indra and Brahma were frequently mentioned; but the MAIN gods, Vishnu and Shiva, were never mentioned. It turns out that Indra was once the dominant god in the Rig-Vedic Religion, while Vishnu was a minor god. It was only later, with the increasing popularity of the Puranas, that the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva gained pre-eminence. So obviously, religion in India has changed and evolved over time.
KhukuriGo Yes! So much this! Religion in the Indian Subcontinent has evolved a lot in the 3000+ years since its evolution. Did you know why Shiva is absent from the ancient Rig Veda, Yajur Veda etc? Because Rudra is derived from an ancient god from the Dravidian pantheon who was not known at the time to the authors of the Vedas who lived in the North of the Subcontinent, and was later absorbed into Hinduism after significant cultural exchange between the Dravidians and Indo-Aryans.
Partiban Anathurai: Are you referring to the possible proto-Pashupati figure in one of the seals used by the people of Harappan Civilization some 5000 years ago? I'd just LOVE it if I get to see the day the Harappan script/pictograms are finally deciphered, if they EVER get deciphered, that is. I also have one other query, if you don't mind. Do you know when the written script began developing in the Indian subcontinent after the collapse of the Harappan Civilization? My searches have led to the early Mauryan Period, with the Asokan Edicts being one of the earliest examples of written Indian scripts I have been able to find. Are there other examples of written Indian inscriptions dating back to the time period between the collapse of Harappan Civilization and the establishment of the Mauryan Empire? As a mere casual lover of history, I am not very good at finding these things.
+KhukuriGod Interesting take on Hindu mythology. I haven't studied the Vedas but from what I know of the Mahabharat, it seems to me that Vedic mythology (at the time) was very close to Greek, with Indra being in the same position as Zeus. Vishnu and Shiva seem to have been added to the pantheon after coming in contact with Krishna, who was probably from another culture with different deities. I think the story with a child Krishna lifting up the Gowardhan mountain and thwarting Indra was cultural appropriation, with the old Vedic gods slowly being superseded by the newer Vishnu. But then again, this is just conjecture on my part. I too find history and mythology fascinating. :)

Biased. 1. Completely ignored Indus valley civilization and its achievements in science and engineering. Urban planning, water engineering, minerals mining that supplied to pharoahs of egypt like lapis lazuli and much more. 2. Ignore metallurgy. Ever heard of crucible technology? wootz steel which in turn influenced metallurgy in middle east and by proxy europe is not discussed. 3. Sugar crystallization. That science first developed in India and was carried/stolen to persia and china. Gave way to Candy. 4. Cotton. Indians were first to cultivate, process it and wear it. After Alexander cotton cultivation spread west. 5. Too much focus on the northwest part of india and "religious" background of Sanskrit even though many sanskrit works are non religious. Ever heard of Tamil sangam literature? Thirukkural is arguably the first secular work written over 2000 years ago. Also Tholkappiyam is Tamil linguistic work written in the pre-asokan era. India alone doesn't mean Religious Sanskrit & Vedas. It is a collection of many languages, literature & native sciences. 6. Along with spread of buddhism many astronomical, mathematical and linguistic works spread to east and south east asia due to the necessity to translate many indian works. None of that is discussed. 7. No works on surgery is discussed but thankful ayurveda is. 8. Political science treatise(arthashastra) by chanakya is not discussed. This is a precursor to the Prince written many centuries later. 9. Logic. Many aspects of logic was discussed and written like Nyaya, jaina and buddhist logic systems and none of that was even brought up here. There is more but I'll stop here. Its ironic this video is about science but no scientific method is applied to the research in this video. Instead the usual colonial prejudices are there where the focus is on outside influences on India. There may have been pockets of exchange and influences in different parts of india but to say that 3 or 4 times in the video repeatedly without concrete evidences about a show on "science in India" undermines the enormous native contributions and their methodology and spreads misinformation to viewers. Please remake this video without Greek Optics (i.e not just Northwest India and its subsequent empires).
Well at least he made the video, and just because he didn't mention everything and anything under the sun doesn't mean it's a bad video. Personally, I love the effort.

@jay man Dude, its true, Hinduism contains both theism and atheism, please read, even rig ved has nasadiya sukt, it questions the existence of god. also we have had many atheist philosophy charvka etc.. even Buddhism and jainism which originated from Hinduism are atheistic religion. please do read. I am a nastik Hindu, as Hinduism has a lot of sects,I follow that sect... so Hinduism is a bouquet of philosophies, unlike Islam and Christianity which are monotheist. jai hind.
I’m so glad Indian tv is showing the story of Porous. I know it’s dramatised however in western history classes it’s always ‘Alexander the Great’ blah blah we are never taught about India’s great achievements as they want us to believe everything was given to India by the British. I love my Indian heritage
With a quick web search I found that it was Aryabhata and not Brahmagupta the one who calculated the circumference of the earth. Unlike for Eratosthenes' work, I couldn't find any sources on that except for the fact that he came up with an apparently very accurate number.
Sources for eratosthenes are much recent probably later than 13th Century and in different language of arabic and without any commentaries. Arabs updated ancient texts which recent knowledge they absorbed from world in house of wisdon in Baghadad. How can you accurately predict what eratosthenes actually did on such sloppy method?
This guy has misinterpretation in many cases. Ayurveda and animal sacrifices cannot come in the same sentence. I used to like his work, but being a researcher myself on ayurveda, I now doubt his works might be incomplete, vague & done in haste.
True, true! I, as an Indian (and a Hindu) could find out many fallacies (superficial, like mentioning of animal sacrifices in Ayurveda) and hasty summaries regarding subjects (such as Vedas, Mathematics, philosophy) while missing out on trademark Indian topics like Ramayana, Mahabharatha (spiritual yet historical texts), Dharma and Bhagavad Gita, cosmology and its detailed description of stars (and constellations) and various sciences which are still amazing to behold in this point in time. Nevertheless, this video does a great job at achieving its purpose, the narrator presents a new (unbiased and true) picture of Indian history, giving a minuscule sample of Bharat's culture and heritage for people to further pursue in their own curiosity! Indian history and culture cannot be summarized in a small video like this. This is a good introductory video. :)
While he may not go into specifics, remember that he is merely giving a CRASH COURSE, which is an overall view of topics in a certain field. Other than this he does not specialize in this topic and the team was given around a week to prepare this.
Just as a note, modern Macedonia has been historically part of 'Greece', even it is not part of the modern Hellenic republic. Similarly, Pakistan Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh are all historically been part of the collective cultural area of 'India'. Just summin that could be useful for when ye do the maps.
STFU. Bangladesh has nothing to do with either India or Pakistan or any other South Asian countries. We are totally different and unique in our own way.
Another interesting episode from Crash Course. Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to go back and split the video into segments in order to digest the material. I’d also love to hear more about Indian history. Keep the videos coming.
No the history is complicated. Ancient Greek philosophers came up with the basic ideas, Indian mathematicians worked on those basic ideas and fleshed out trigonometry. Arabs and Persians fleshed it out a bit further and spread it to medieval Europe. Afaik, the words sin and cosine are Sanskrit/Indic in origin.
The first every book of geometry is Shulbha Sutra which already talked about the pythagorean theorem. It also talked about completing squares and square roots. It was also tackling on the arithmetic of geometries. These were discussed in order to build intricate alters for worship.
India is an oustanding country because of their cultures, religions and so on. Aside from that they contribute a lot in science . Thank you for this video, I learn a lot.
Ayurveda is still completely relevant today. We have Govt. exams to join Ayurveda course in Govt. medical colleges and become Ayurvedic doctor with handsome salary.
It is really sad that such a well-made educational video is the hotspot for so many backward-thinking comments about whose ancestor discovered what first. Guess what, it is humans regardless of nationality, religion or race that discover things. Not one nation. All of us. Tribalism has no place in the scientific advance of humanity.
Well that could have been possible if the modern Education and academia {Since it's inception} was not so Euro or Western centric. For e.g. Read book 'The Nay Science'.
Well explained. Generally people think of India whenever the topic are of Hinduism and Buddism but nobody notice Nepal which has great contribution in both religions. "Bharatbarsh" and India are two terms..
Great to see the earliest discoverers of some of the most important scientific concepts getting the respect the deserve. Much more honest and interesting than merely talking about the first white guy.
Getting respect, No my friend this video didn't do anything for lost respect of indians because the west and some asians are jealous thats indian were the world's knowledge bank and its lost all his glories over colonisation of 1000 years. No matter how many videos you make racists westerners will not give a dmn about indian they only know indian as a country of shitty, filthy, black, poor, country
akshay de population would surely increase in quantum even if minimal population growth rate as because of current huge population multiplier . Very bad scenario
How great India will be is not destined that way; it is up to Indians to decide how much they will sacrifice to be maximally scientific, productive, compassionate to fellow Indians and the world.
Nikola Tesla was one of the few scientists who combined science and spirituality which was a classical example of cross-pollination of ideas and thoughts. He was the man who gave a life to the Vedas in the west and inspired many other scientists who were also the founding fathers of Quantum Physics. Tesla’s work on free energy was revoked by the people who were running the economy which explains that when capitalism falls into the wrong hands, the revolution ceases to exist. The pioneers of Quantum Mechanics and few of the greatest scientists from the west like Niels Bohr, Nikola Tesla, Werner Heisenberg and Erwin Schrodinger were well versed with the Vedas. German Physicist and Nobel prize winner, Werner Heisenberg rightly said, "After the conversations about Vedic philosophy, some of the ideas of Quantum Physics that had seemed so crazy suddenly made much more sense." And Niels Bohr’s statement, ”I go to the Upanishads to ask questions” is something to ponder upon. This inclination explains the ground-breaking theories from Neil Bohr, Nikola Tesla, Erwin Schrodinger that changed the future of humanity. It is a tribute to our ancestors and the philosophical minds of classical India that the great problems of modern physics like Duality, Reality, Consciousness and observables were grappled by them centuries ago. You should be proud that your land has produced beings who gave birth to Dharma, Vedas, Upanishads and many other philosophies that left even the modern scientists flabbergasted.

Just want to point out to the creator here that Buddhism and Jainism are not "austere rivals" of Hinduism. In fact, Hinduism is the parent religion of Buddhism and Jainism. The Japanese hold Hinduism in very high regard as Lord Buddha better known as Siddhartha was originally a Hindu and Buddhism was only one of the branches or extension of Hinduism. The underlying ideaology of all three faiths is the same. And yes, I'm a Hindu and I live in India.
A) Panini wasn't first of wise men, he just unified the dialects into one language that too very scientifically (see Anuradha Choudhry's lectures on sanskrit) which was very important given abundance of scientific research going on in whole country/kingdoms. B) A very important point to note is that information was passed on in form of verses or poems which is a problem because what the prose or poem conveys gets lost through time. This is not something made up. From Aryabhatta to Bhaskara Acharya followed this method.
All of today’s knowledge in India and Hinduism is only a portion of the real scripts and knowledge that existed , but as British colonization stopped orally passed knowledge
Kashmir should get its independence, neither a part of India nor Pakistan but an independent nation on it's own. You people are exploiting human rights.

I am an Indian and a Hindu. Before we pride ourselves or devalue ourselves for being or not being born an Indian. Please know that Sanskrit, Vedas, and ayurvedic science are very ancient. These were developed during the Satya, dwarpara and Tretya yuga. This is the Kala yuga we are in. This science was bestowed only on a worthy student who the gurus thought wouldn't misuse it. So much of this knowledge wasn't passed on as the gurus knew we were approaching the evilest yuga of the 4 and would definitely use it to cause harm than benefit the planet. Every soul takes birth as per his/her quest for knowledge. We are all one people, there is no nation, religion or skin color to which you belong. Many of these rishis migrated to other parts of the world, and a majority of them did not procreate as they seek moksha (enlightenment) and also as they did not want their children to take birth in the Kala yuga. This isn't a crash course on the Indian achievement of science but for the whole of humanity.
That was also the kala yuga according to ancient texts. We are now moving out of the kala yuga. India will once again be the centre of the world in the coming centuries and modern India will lift Indian civilisation and the rest of the world to the stars as humanity starts colonizing space in the coming centuries.

Aw yeah, my man Panini, grandfather of all Linguistics! Also, thanks Hank for the shout-out to Linguistics as a science!
elaborate more, for the people who dont quite understand the importance. Indian here. But no clue about panini and his work.
I dont know if this falls into the linguistics field, but there are rumors that sanskrit is a perfected language. what does that mean?
Matt Kuhn Awesome. Thanks again. That answered some of my questions.
Have a great day.

Its actually Indo-Arabic numerals. Because it was popularized by Arabs.
*It is good to see that the world is finally able to see the bright India which was eclipsed by the dark cloud of 'Colonial Hangover'*
First Indian satellite was named after Aryabhatta..
There are few misconceptions I would like to clear to every one. Indian history was subdued and underplayed by many nations of the world except south east and the East Asian . The primary due to the colonial experience here are some facts :
1:- India knew hypotenuse theorem way before pythogoras .cited in Baudhyana sulbasturas it also deals with a lot of geometry intricate calculations, etc.
Aryabhatta in his book Aryabhatia proposed the model in the 4th century AD. he also defined sidereal motion ,equionxes , etc
6:- India is the originator of the decimal place value system and the number zero (0) only this is acknowledged
7:- India is the originator of algebra Al-jabbar translated Indian algebra in the 7th century and took it to middle east and later Al- Jabbar was called in Europe as Algebra .

Sikhism also came from India
Harman Singh yes... im not denying that. But it originated in India that's all I'm saying.

I was watching a libertarian debate vs progressives last week
A girl on the libertarian team (a ethnic Indian) said “call me racist, but the British occupation of India was the greatest thing to ever happen to our people, without them, we would’ve stayed a backwards, dirt pour, disease ridden nation”
And I was like
“...let’s forget for a sec that you’re a libertarian claiming a forceful government occupation over a countries culture, economy, and daily life was “the greatest thing ever” and go back to....what the hell are you talking about?”
We have many people like her in India. Who hates country to the core.

As a linguist Sanskrit and Latin has always been my favorite languages to study in
tragoedia veritas fascinating
Twam should have been written as tvam - (त्वम् before sandhi). There is no 'w' in Sanskrit, just a v that gets pronounced that way after consonants. Also, it should be karoṣi (करोषि), not karoti. Karoti is the third person (he, she, it); karoṣi is the second person, which is what you used. The full sentence with sandhi would be written as: tvaṃ kiṃ karoṣi (त्वं किं करोषि).
Carter Wood what??? What is a W? No language has the sound for w. If not even Sanskrit has the sound for w. What you said doesn't make any sense.

The Indian religion is not at all about scrificing animals to secure a certain social class, Hinduism is a guidence toward acquiring true knowledge. That can never be defined by this derogatory custom (animal slaughter) of a few.
Who said it was about sacrificing animals? He clearly was talking about what was written in the vedas. IT IS written that way in the vedas.
KhukuriGo
Yes!

Hinduism is an Atheism and theism at the same time
How?
"Long story short "
Universe(Brahmand) consists of
Param atma (Energy)
Param tatva (Matter)
Maha kal (Time )
Kal (Black space)
(Today modern Science says
Space and Time are not different they are different attribute of 1 thing and Hindus use 1 word "Kal")
1. Param Atma
2. Param tatva
Both are Param (Supreme)
Hence equal
Atma = Tatva
Energy = Matter
E = M
Both can not be created nor destroyed only translated ( or incarnated) into another form (or body )
Both are Trinity
*Energy* has trinity aspect
1. Creation +ve
2. Preservaton =
3. Destruction -ve
*Matter* has trinity aspect
1. Proton +ve
2. Neutron =
3. Electron -ve
Hindus personified it as
Brahma +ve
Vishnu =
Shiva -ve
Since Energy and matter are two
2 types of worship
1. Meditation (Yog-atma se param atma)
2. Idol worshipping
Why idol worshipping?
Hindus do the same rituals on the purchase of car bike house TV AC etc which we do before idols
Bcoz
A car can be moulded into an Idol of Natraja
But no change in the composition of the proton neutron electron
Proton and neutron are always connected form Nucleous
Brahma and Vishnu are also always connected through navel cord (Nabhi)
Nucleous Hindi name is also "Nabhi"
Vishnu the personification of preservative aspect of the Universe energy
Or
Simply
Vishnu the preserver
1st avatar of Vishnu was Fish 🐠
2nd Avatar of Vishnu was Turtle 🐢
Now in last 150 years
Science says the same how life evolved and preservered on Earth
So
Param atma + Param tatva + Maha kal + Kal = Universe (Brahm or Brahmand)
The highest manifestion of Brahm is *Para Brahm*
Multi Universe

the source is 'Aryabhatiya' i think .
You may need to go through again. He said abt the initial stages for Ayurveda not later developed stage!!
While he may not go into specifics, remember that he is merely giving a CRASH COURSE, which is an overall view of topics in a certain field. Other than this he does not specialize in this topic and the team was given around a week to prepare this.
@@synth_ss That do not give them a pass to misrepresent. Animal sacrificing & Ayurveda have no relation what so ever.

Sitting on Ceilings Ok
also the Binary system by Pingala
Aryabhatta didn’t invent zero. Nobody knows who came up with zero.
Another interesting episode from Crash Course. Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to go back and split the video into segments in order to digest the material. I’d also love to hear more about Indian history. Keep the videos coming.
The Pythagorean theorem was discovered by an Indian mathematician way before Pythagoras was born
No. The first proofs written down of the Pythagorean theorem were given by Euclid.
Yes its Bodhayan therom...
Richa Daiya we gave to Greek traveller who visited India .
The first every book of geometry is Shulbha Sutra which already talked about the pythagorean theorem. It also talked about completing squares and square roots. It was also tackling on the arithmetic of geometries. These were discussed in order to build intricate alters for worship.
I clicked this immediately as soon as I saw the word INDIA
stuck on 69 hahah..no one dares to like
India is an oustanding country because of their cultures, religions and so on. Aside from that they contribute a lot in science . Thank you for this video, I learn a lot.
I didn't know about the hospital! That's so cool
Surprised why still there lot of Indian Doctors.
There was a person called 'Shushrut' who performed facial plastic surgeries in BCE era. Considered the father of surgeries. Look him up on the wiki.
For e.g. Read book 'The Nay Science'.
then remove Patents
True. These people hold on to their ancestors milestone and stop moving ahead.
Well explained.
Generally people think of India whenever the topic are of Hinduism and Buddism but nobody notice Nepal which has great contribution in both religions. "Bharatbarsh" and India are two terms..
ramayan was written in nepal.
vyed vyasa who wrote vedas was born in nepal but no body notice it.
As Indian I didn't even knew that...I guess we suck at passing down our knowledge!
Abheek Sharma sab ncert me diya hai.
Or most haven't come out of "I need to be told about this but a foreigner and only then will I believe it" syndrome.
To be honest many people around their world do not know stuff about their countries, jinko GK mein interest hai however unko pata hai
thank chacha nehru and congress for that.
Great to see the earliest discoverers of some of the most important scientific concepts getting the respect the deserve. Much more honest and interesting than merely talking about the first white guy.
Getting respect,
No my friend this video didn't do anything for lost respect of indians because the west and some asians are jealous thats indian were the world's knowledge bank and its lost all his glories over colonisation of 1000 years.
No matter how many videos you make racists westerners will not give a dmn about indian they only know indian as a country of shitty, filthy, black, poor, country
You forgot to mention CHANAKYA - "The father of economics" from the capital city of the mauryan empire- PATLIPUTRA.
He referred to him as a 'wise old adviser' to Chandragupta
With love from India , Love you Hank .
India is Great , So it is history and so will be its future.
India WAS great. India can't be great unless we are decolonized in our minds
not if we keep populating at this rate
akshay de population would surely increase in quantum even if minimal population growth rate as because of current huge population multiplier . Very bad scenario
WE WUZ KANGZ N SHEIT 😂😂😂😂
Science is anti spiritual.Isac Newton wasted his last years by doing research with Bible and Alchemi.
Oh, and Kamasutra as well.
Ankit Rai so you want them to mention all the things that came out of India ??
And proud of it. Sex + spirituality ✌
sex is a part of life, it's just we indian made it "Hauaa"
@Dx Fire excel sati, everything was there in the whole world even before us. Even sati was there but with a different name and sati went wildfire in the west because of Britishers even though these kinda traditions used to happen there already
It was class(varna) system that became caste(jati) system from the 3rd century A.D.Sati system exists to this day where widowed women go around the funeral pyre of her husband and asks the society if theres any one to look after her otherwise she retires to the temple and leads a religious life and is worshipped as Sati mata every year in Rajasthan.Jawhar the widow burning system that became famous among women to escape from rapist Abrahamics (Muslims and Christians).
This is one of the videos that did a better job of teaching me about a subject than my own history class did.
Medical surgeries also performed in Ancient India
On bobs and vagene?
Sushruta did rhinoplasty and some eye surgery
yetigriff No..Some Brain surgeries with some eye surgeries and more.
I think I will now..I have sushruta samhita but never really read it
yetigriff dude please don't generalise. India has a lot of people. And yes there are many idiots, but obviously there are many decent people too.
for a second I thought this was an announcement for Crash Course India.
Blabla130 episode 1: the glory of the mauryans and the Indian scientific golden age.
Final episode: bob. And. VAGENE!
I’d watch that
This video hasn't even skimmed the surface of India for a crash course on us
Believe me Indian history is way bigger than the rest.😀
A) Panini wasn't first of wise men, he just unified the dialects into one language that too very scientifically (see Anuradha Choudhry's lectures on sanskrit) which was very important given abundance of scientific research going on in whole country/kingdoms.
B) A very important point to note is that information was passed on in form of verses or poems which is a problem because what the prose or poem conveys gets lost through time. This is not something made up. From Aryabhatta to Bhaskara Acharya followed this method.
It was so interesting ty so muuuuuch !
All of today’s knowledge in India and Hinduism is only a portion of the real scripts and knowledge that existed , but as British colonization stopped orally passed knowledge
Is knowledge made or discovered?
Both. we are exploring the possibility space, but logic is rooted in our perspective of reality.
(Causality, simirlance, etc)
Michael Wade Made to be discovered.
It's realised
Michael Wade both
Michael Wade made
Fact- Maharshi Panini was from Kashmir. But today it is totally Islamic jihadi.
True Bro
Kashmir should get its independence, neither a part of India nor Pakistan but an independent nation on it's own. You people are exploiting human rights.
Ashutosh Anand Singh
No bro.
He was from KHYBER-PAKHTUNKHWA!
Mature Man
What to expect from Americans?
They are a friend of none!
@@n-carter4468 the loudest one is heard everywhere.
im 17, and it makes me very happy that sometime after 20 years or so my elementary & middleschooler children would have Crash Course to watch
Panini was so important, there's a sandwich named after him.
Satay chicken panini... Yummm
glad I wasn't the only one to notice that
Lol... It's actually Paa*N*ini.
*N* and n sounds are different.
But yes, it made me hungry when he said panini. 😂
hahahaha good one.
well the thing is pizza comes from pita bread which comes from indian naan, eventhough name anology is not true, it might have emerged from india since it has pesto which is from india originally.
I dont know why youtube recommended this video,
But i am feeling very proud right now.
As someone who knows next to nothing about India's history beyond what's common knowledge, and who wants to write a pre-colonial Indian character for a story that spans many world cultures, this channel and episode is gold. Thank you!
