Read Ephesians 5-6. It says "submit yourselves to one another in the fear of the Lord. In the following way: 1. Wives, to your husbands 2. Children, to your parents 3. Slaves, to your masters." Consistent exegesis means we cannot conclude that husbands submit to their wives any more than parents submitb to their children, just because they are addressed in the passage.

In the same passage husbands are instructed to live their wives as Christ loves His church. That is we as husband's must not laud it over our wives but rather be ready to die for her. There are men who mistreat their wives and take advantage of the submission verse and there are wives who do not submit to their husbands and quote that husbands should live with their wives in an understanding way. Both are wrong and focusing on one feels like it’s negating the other.

He asked me why are you getting married and we chatted a bit but he said one thing so profound I have never forgotten it. He said if you are getting married for what you can get out of it the don't get married. It will fail. He said if you get married for what you can put into the marriage it will always last.
Man and woman were created equal. When god gave Adam authority over the woman it was delegation of authority. In any relationship whether corporate or social , when there is a decision to be made where people do not agree only one can make it. But! With that authority comes the responsibility for making that decision, because it also affects other people in the case of family.
Ephesians says husbands love your wives as Christ loves the church and gave His life for it. God rules over everyone but in love , never forcing himself on others just because He can. Ephesians 5:25-33. So the verse in Genesis doesn’t mean men are superior to women, women are of lower social status , because of God sending Jesus Christ. If us as women, are genuine Jesus Christ Followers, we are to submit to our husbands period. It doesn’t matter if he is acting out or being a child in moments, we are only in control of ourselves and our relationship with Jesus, we are still to be obedient. This is my journey currently. I wanted to be in rebellion as I was angry with my husband’ behavior ~I cried out to God angry, He comforted me reminding me that I was still to be obedient and in this~ He will reward my obedience. It’s not a matter of if we find reasons not to, it’s a matter of God says to and we do it. Marriages and Families are being destroyed due to both men and women refusing to obey Gods’ commands. I agree. My note though would be that all this submission is never done in a vacuum. I find though the husband has a bigger responsibility then his wife in all of this. It is much harder to follow: Eph 5-22 --> Because of Eph 5-33 and 5-34 --> now the real part where there is many failures (ie.: Husbands are so bad that they need more info in Eph 5-25 to 33) For Children towards their parents: Eph 6: 1 to 2 (I agree with that too) --> now the responsibility of the father towards his children is Eph 6:4 --> Do not provoke If you fail in what is above, why would you be suprised if you have contention with your wife... and your children. My two cents. (edit: also everything should be done because Christ loved us first and for his sake. Godly men. Submit does not mean slave…no opinion…and whatever you say. As women we are answerable to God. Every man is not a Godly man. Understand the will of the Lord. Christ was humble. Many men abuse the scripture and make themselves a master. Submissive is not slavery of any kind. In saying that My husband is the head of my household.
Submission is a posture, the same as humility. Wives are called to default to submitting to their husbands. Biblically they are not called to submit to good husbands, or wise husbands. There is no qualifier other than to submit to their own husband. The only time wives should not submit to their husbands is when it would be sin. If the scripture gave a qualifier then it wouldn't be hard to apply it to every instance. I have listened to teaching that husbands have to meet a certain standard before they should expect their wives to submit to their leadership and I hate it with a passion. Jumping through all the hoops of being patient, being kind, being understanding, setting the example, only to find that your wife still won't submit to your leadership is toxic. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord otherwise you are in sin.

First, Paul is still addressing all the saints in Ephesus at Chapter 5, verse 21. He changes who he is addressing to wives in v. 22. Paul is specific in the audience, changes between wives and husbands, then children, then slaves.

I think we want to categorize women who do not do this properly as rebellious when in a lot of cases there are women who did submit somewhere along the way to a man who was not a good leader. Paul received a teaching from Jesus about women needing to cover their heads during prayer and worship. He concluded that the church had No Other practice. The true church of God, women wear veils. Psalm 19:8 💕The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; All these are true but if you only focused on these then you would forget that the second or new covenant is more precious than the first or old covenant stated in Jeremiah 31:31-33 and Isaiah 53. Then why are you now not in the Old Covenant rules? 2. At the same time in 1 Timothy 2:11-15 💕A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. The last example able the military 10 month vs 10 years men doesn't always hold up. Sure there are consequences, but breaking command does happen when life is on the line. This is why a woman shouldn't submit in every situation, and why citizens don't submit to government in every situation. God gives rights that can't be taken, they can only be willingly laid down. Wives are submit in "all things", however, Scripture never conflicts with itself therefore when God says, "don't sin" we must reconcile the meaning to be a balance here. Perhaps for people who really are bad at understanding this specific piece of Scripture, they need to be hit over the head with an extra statement, "Wives submit to your husbands in everything...that isn't a sin, because duh." But many of married life's decisions come with no guidance from the Spirit nor 'right or wrong' Scripture to justify it. A husband wants to buy a tomato and the wife wants to buy a pear, they have not enough money to buy both. Do they buy neither and keep their money? Do they argue until they can't speak in the middle of the store? Do they buy a potato since they can't agree? No, the wife submits (surely after giving her opinion as to why the pear is the preferable choice) and says, "Ok husband, if you think the tomato is the better choice then I support your decision....and then they both move. on. together. There's no Bible passage saying pears are evil nor one saying tomatoes are a poor choice...and I highly doubt the Spirit will tell you which to buy. At most, I'd guess the Spirit would guide the wife to submit to her husband...This isn't complicated stuff, but it is difficult to accept because submission requires humility and humans are prideful creatures.

It comes from the Greek word "Hupotasso" that means "rank under" and here is the definition from: Strong's Concordance Original Word: ὑποτάσσω Part of Speech: Verb Transliteration: hupotassó Phonetic Spelling: (hoop-ot-as'-so) Definition: to place or rank under, to subject, to obey Usage: I place under, subject to; I submit, put myself into subjection. It does not get more literal that this. Wives are to consider themselves to be a lower rank (think military) than their husbands and to treat them accordingly. How does a junior officer treat a senior officer? With the utmost respect and complete obedience.

It says they are to submit to their husbands. The husband will stand before God and give an account of his marriage in a way that the wife won't. But the apostles did write to the churches about many things including instruction on relationships between wives and husbands, servants and masters, children and parents. Are you married? I doubt that 2 Christians married to each other are going to come to different conclusions on adultery or murder. Great! The grammatical structure is called Ellipsis. It's a common part of almost any language and the correct methodical translation of one language into another. The FACT is that the verb IS borrowed from the verse before. He glosses over this and does nothing to explain why Paul would phrase it this way. He simply says "military term so in MY understanding of the military it can't be both ways". But Greek words often have multiple contexts. He simply focused on the military one because it confirmed his already entrenched position. At the very least Humility would say "look there is some grammatical evidence for what this other group saying, I just can't land in the same place because given the information I see, I come to a different conclusion". Instead we get "NOPE MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY". Debate or disagreement on the nuances of scripture and the original languages isn't a problem for me, it's "my interpretation is the only one" in those particular cases where the Bible doesn't give us that level of precision... and Voddie is a great teacher sometimes, but this isn't a strong argument in it's substance. And let me be clear, I don't hate Voddie or the group he most commonly associates with, but just as vehemently as he takes issue with particular things, when I see scriptural evidence that takes a different position than Voddie, I'll be equally as loving but vehement in my disagreement with his position -- bc it is just that, his position, and just because Voddie says it, does not equate it with God's word. @@SeanShineYouth What is YOUR interpretation of these verses? First, translating from one language to another is no perfect art. Second, none of us were there when Paul wrote his epistles. Thus, the "best" way to make these translations from one language to another is to hope to understand the author. We can try but can we convey his spirit at the very time of his writings? Maybe but we can at least attempt to do so. I don't believe we can perfect this art. Bias will play a part in it as well. As long as someone finds ways to even slightly change or add to a word's definition, all mankind does is bring a little more confusion. Bible translations are doing that in our age. We do have to try to find what is the correct interpretation of the Word of God, even as many will say "my interpretation." Doctrine tends to persuade believers as well. I blame seminaries for this bias in their teachings. My two cents.
You're right on with the seminary thing, but I think if we're honest all of us have some kind of bias. The question is whether we've examined it in light of scripture, been willing to let the Bible change us, and if we come to different position on interpreting scripture we should attempt to be as objective and gracious as possible, and honor those who have different interpretations as long as they've actually done their homework to back it up. I realize that this can be mis-perceived as me making allowance for "anything goes" but that's really not what I mean. This isn't always the case, but most often it's apparent when someone's goal is to "entrench" their view or twist scripture to fit their view...This is different (and often in observable ways) than someone who has genuinely studied the scripture and come to a different conclusion based on objective observations of original languages or context. To me, I can honor and appreciate the latter as brothers and sisters who I disagree with and not "false prophets". I rarely see the same grace from folks who run in Voddies crew, and to hear him speak so dismissively of a valid Biblical study of the original language without offering a substantive alternative to why the Greek grammar is constructed the way it factually is, and simultaneously not offer the gracious humility of saying "I can see why they might interpret it this way but I ultimately disagree" is disappointing... that's really what I'm getting at. Consistent exegesis means we cannot conclude that husbands submit to their wives any more than parents submitb to their children, just because they are addressed in the passage.

Ephesians 5:25-33. So the verse in Genesis doesn’t mean men are superior to women, women are of lower social status , because of God sending Jesus Christ. On the surface that seems simple but when you start delving into it, it ain’t simple and men folk and women folk better stop worrying about whether the other gender is doing what they are told and start worrying about whether they are doing what they are told.

It doesn’t matter if he is acting out or being a child in moments, we are only in control of ourselves and our relationship with Jesus, we are still to be obedient. This is my journey currently. I wanted to be in rebellion as I was angry with my husband’ behavior ~I cried out to God angry, He comforted me reminding me that I was still to be obedient and in this~ He will reward my obedience. It’s not a matter of if we find reasons not to, it’s a matter of God says to and we do it. Marriages and Families are being destroyed due to both men and women refusing to obey Gods’ commands. Godly men. Submit does not mean slave…no opinion…and whatever you say. As women we are answerable to God. Every man is not a Godly man. Understand the will of the Lord. Christ was humble. Many men abuse the scripture and make themselves a master. Submissive is not slavery of any kind. In saying that My husband is the head of my household.
Submission is a posture, the same as humility. Wives are called to default to submitting to their husbands. Biblically they are not called to submit to good husbands, or wise husbands. There is no qualifier other than to submit to their own husband. The only time wives should not submit to their husbands is when it would be sin. If the scripture gave a qualifier then it wouldn't be hard to apply it to every instance.
I have listened to teaching that husbands have to meet a certain standard before they should expect their wives to submit to their leadership and I hate it with a passion. Jumping through all the hoops of being patient, being kind, being understanding, setting the example, only to find that your wife still won't submit to your leadership is toxic. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord otherwise you are in sin.

First, Paul is still addressing all the saints in Ephesus at Chapter 5, verse 21.
He changes who he is addressing to wives in v. 22. Paul is specific in the audience, changes between wives and husbands, then children, then slaves.
Submission is an act of the heart, obedience is an action.
You can be submitted but that doesn't mean obedience.

We women DO NOT assume the authority over men, but HOLD the testimony of Jesus Christ for it is only Jesus Christ who is the master of all servants whether men or women, young or old.
So I ask you would you deny the reliability of a women or sisters who holds the testimony of Jesus? Is it only the men who must have the testimony of Jesus? Why are you not primarily on the 'Law of Moses' today when verse said that 'the Law is perfect' ? Am I deceiving you?
3. It is only by the "works you could know the fruits" for all servants.
So I encourage all the Christian pastors to test the spirit that tells this understanding and after you have tested then SPEAK to know the spirit of truth or the spirit of falsehood.

The last example able the military 10 month vs 10 years men doesn't always hold up. Sure there are consequences, but breaking command does happen when life is on the line. Wives are submit in "all things", however, Scripture never conflicts with itself therefore when God says, "don't sin" we must reconcile the meaning to be a balance here. A husband wants to buy a tomato and the wife wants to buy a pear, they have not enough money to buy both. Do they buy neither and keep their money? There's no Bible passage saying pears are evil nor one saying tomatoes are a poor choice...and I highly doubt the Spirit will tell you which to buy. At most, I'd guess the Spirit would guide the wife to submit to her husband...This isn't complicated stuff, but it is difficult to accept because submission requires humility and humans are prideful creatures.

I would also make a distinction between moral matters and matters of opinion. I doubt that 2 Christians married to each other are going to come to different conclusions on adultery or murder. You could have different opinions on which church to go to, what to wear to church, how to teach your kids, where to eat, etc...Situations where you don't choose between right and wrong but between 2 different options. In those cases, the husband makes the final decision because that is the way God designed marriage.

These were the words of Paul (not the Gospel of Jesus Christ) and should be seen as nothing more than a relic of a time when women did not have equal rights.

Then throw the Bible away. The epistles and Acts of the Apostles are nothing more than words and their writings hold no bearing, according to you. Since Paul went out to the Gentiles, his words are vain. Hope you're a Jew.
Plus, Jesus spoke to the Jews first. Leaves the Gentiles hanging on nothing because Jesus did not go out among the Gentiles.
Lastly, Jesus preceeded Paul. He said nothing of the six million slaves in the Roman Empire, said nothing of the gays, nothing against the ruthless government.
Paul unequivocally stated in 1 Cor. 14 that the commands ultimately come from God. So yes, it is the gospel of Christ because there is a government involved. Christ preached the Kingdom of God(Mar. 1:14), and every kingdom has a government and a set of laws. God's Kingdom is no different. Contrary to what "Christianity" thinks, the fake messages that are centered around Christ is NOT the gospel He preached!

And it shows me He and many of those he runs with will cling to their traditional interpretations even when confronted with sound translation of the Greek language. Great! The grammatical structure is called Ellipsis. It's a common part of almost any language and the correct methodical translation of one language into another. The FACT is that the verb IS borrowed from the verse before. He glosses over this and does nothing to explain why Paul would phrase it this way. He simply says "military term so in MY understanding of the military it can't be both ways". But Greek words often have multiple contexts. He simply focused on the military one because it confirmed his already entrenched position. At the very least Humility would say "look there is some grammatical evidence for what this other group saying, I just can't land in the same place because given the information I see, I come to a different conclusion". Instead we get "NOPE MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY". Debate or disagreement on the nuances of scripture and the original languages isn't a problem for me, it's "my interpretation is the only one" in those particular cases where the Bible doesn't give us that level of precision... and Voddie is a great teacher sometimes, but this isn't a strong argument in it's substance. And let me be clear, I don't hate Voddie or the group he most commonly associates with, but just as vehemently as he takes issue with particular things, when I see scriptural evidence that takes a different position than Voddie, I'll be equally as loving but vehement in my disagreement with his position -- bc it is just that, his position, and just because Voddie says it, does not equate it with God's word. Not everybody seems to realize that. if you agree with him, by all means do what you believe is right before the Lord, but don't demonize folks who have a scriptural basis for a different practice. @@n9wff

What is YOUR interpretation of these verses?
First, translating from one language to another is no perfect art.
Second, none of us were there when Paul wrote his epistles.
Thus, the "best" way to make these translations from one language to another is to hope to understand the author. We can try but can we convey his spirit at the very time of his writings? Maybe but we can at least attempt to do so.
I don't believe we can perfect this art. Bias will play a part in it as well. As long as someone finds ways to even slightly change or add to a word's definition, all mankind does is bring a little more confusion. Bible translations are doing that in our age. We do have to try to find what is the correct interpretation of the Word of God, even as many will say "my interpretation." Doctrine tends to persuade believers as well.
I blame seminaries for this bias in their teachings.
My two cents.
You're right on with the seminary thing, but I think if we're honest all of us have some kind of bias. The question is whether we've examined it in light of scripture, been willing to let the Bible change us, and if we come to different position on interpreting scripture we should attempt to be as objective and gracious as possible, and honor those who have different interpretations as long as they've actually done their homework to back it up. I realize that this can be mis-perceived as me making allowance for "anything goes" but that's really not what I mean. This isn't always the case, but most often it's apparent when someone's goal is to "entrench" their view or twist scripture to fit their view...This is different (and often in observable ways) than someone who has genuinely studied the scripture and come to a different conclusion based on objective observations of original languages or context. To me, I can honor and appreciate the latter as brothers and sisters who I disagree with and not "false prophets". I rarely see the same grace from folks who run in Voddies crew, and to hear him speak so dismissively of a valid Biblical study of the original language without offering a substantive alternative to why the Greek grammar is constructed the way it factually is, and simultaneously not offer the gracious humility of saying "I can see why they might interpret it this way but I ultimately disagree" is disappointing... that's really what I'm getting at. Grace to you by the way. My issue is with the content and disappointment with the lack of Grace I see, more than picking a fight with anybody! @@n9wff
