Dick Solomon is delivering a eulogy for the funeral of his colleague, Dr. Leonard Hamlin, a very hated person. Short of words, he uses physics to do the job...
It's weird seeing videos again that you once watched with family, grew up watching marvel with my old man and he passed Right before end game came out and now I never watch it cuz it just doesn't feel right.
No. No. NO. Dr. Solomon is NOTHING like Sheldon. I don't know why people make that judgement - but it's just not true. It's a disservice to compare 3rd Rock to Big Bang Theory. Dr. Solomon is an alien trying to learn the concept of being human. As an Alien, he tries to understand why humans are the way humans are. With this speech, you can tell he's trying to connect with humans in what we call empathy (trying to put himself in his shoes to say something kind), life and even death. For us, life and death we struggle with. We cry, we hurt, we just... Well, don't know. Some of us believe we go somewhere, others don't - but as humans we try and make sense of it all. All at the same time, these "aliens" are trying to do the same. Sheldon Cooper and Big Bang Theory is none of that. It's a show trying to mimic what the "nerd" is like but fails because they are only cliche of what nerds are "like." As a result nerds don't connect with these characters. Big Bang falls short of bringing intelligent humor. Just my two cents.
I immediately thought of this eulogy after hearing about Professor Hawking's death today. The eulogy is scientific and deeply lyrical simultaneously, no easy feat for any writer.
My daughter Samantha Young died may 4th 2019, i was at a loss and could not fathom how in earth to eulogize her. Since i was 17 when i watched this i wanted this to be mine...i instead explained to the church ...this show that her auntie who had been murdered a month before and her dad and i watched this show, as well as my children on dvd any time they stayed home... this was the best way to explain her passing. It will still be my eulogy...her auntie and my daughter...best explained
My Dad just died this morning on February 14th 2024, and my sisters and mom are really into spiritual stuff, but this always hits me more. I miss you Dad ❤.
k you so much for posting this. a great ,funny series but a beautiful moment ,captured ,which really struck a cord with me. we are all ,pure whit , light in the end.peace,
One of the best eulogy ever!
I used this quote for my mom's Holy cards. She was all about science, and this was perfection. I miss her so desperately. I miss you mom. I love you.

Dick Solomon, sciencing the shit out of things long before Sheldon Cooper
Totally true! That's a good comparison. It would be awesome if John Lithgow would guest star on TBBT. :)
haha well said! and very true
It’s like showing candle to a red hypergiant

@@SabreLeonheart haven't seen much of tbbt as much as 3rd rock from the sun but as far as i've seen... i totally agree with you.
One of the very best moments of the whole series.
@RaniaIsAwesome I smiled when I read stevehislop's comment then frowned when I read yours
It was so beautiful ❤
this was actually really touching
Agreed. I was thinking about stripping the laughter from the audio.
I love the whole "Could you have BEEN more trite?" Implying the whole matter to energy thing is "PSEUDOSCIENCE" where they come from! 😁😁😁
One of the most beautiful moments in television history.
I agree with Mary here. That was surprisingly touching.
I loved this part of the episode. It is so poetic but scientific, simple yet meaningful.
The epitome of excellent writing for this show. The contrast between highly educated beings compared to the simple human mind. Brilliant scene.
but Dick's facial expression changes always gets me😂😂😂
This was the most beautiful moment in 3rd Rock, for me. 💝🌹
My grandma passed away last night and this scene is helping me cope
I hate u
I'm sorry about your grandmother. This was a beautiful thought. I'm also sorry about trolls.

Amber Goepfert I’m sorry for you’re loss. Breaks my heart just reading this. I hope you’re doing ok. Take care.

"There's this thing we have to go to bc my dad knew this guy, you have to dress really, really nice!" 😂😂😂 Tommy inviting August to the funeral 😂😂
THIS IS THE THING THAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT? 😕
😅 Yes :)!
August was just the worst.
Beautiful moment
This was so beautiful. I want someone to say this at my funeral.
More likely Ashes to ashes Dust to Dust if god Doesn't want you the devil must!
RIP John Mahoney. I watched this episode right after he died. And saw pictures of Eddie looking at the missing chair online.
I dunno why but one of my fav 3rd rock moments.

Did someone in the audience say "shut up" at the end of the eulogy?
@BIockbusterz Yes.
