Calico is an old west mining town that has been around since 1881 and was abandoned in mid 1890s after silver lost its value the town that once gave miners a good living lost its hustle and became a ghost town"
1880s the discovery of silver ore and other minerals in the Calico Mountains of the Mojave Desert led to the founding of Calico in 1881 and a population of several thousand the town became a center for over 500 mines including California largest silver mine at one point and produced 20 million in silver and 9 million in borate minerals by 1892 the town was named after the colors of the areas rock.
