Rolling Stone trying so hard to stay relevant; resorting to something as outlandish as ranking Invasion of Privacy as the 16th best hip hop album ever just for attention
Here's the thing when someone says they don't like a certain artist (Adding onto the first bad take that Kanye West isn't good.) Most of the time, it's either they don't have a good reference point to jump into an artist and understand where they're coming from artistically, or they are just lazy to do the work and are closed minded. I was a diehard rock/metal fan before I started getting into hip-hop/rap. But rock even to this day is my reference point. In order to transition into the hip-hop/rap realm I had to get into artists that helped me transition into that understanding. For me coincidentally that was the Grammy's performance with Imagine Dragons & Kendrick. Somehow down the grapevine of getting into the genre I finally started getting into Kanye, despite me always hearing him on the radio. Yeezus especially was a great transition point of my understanding. Another important factor that helps me understand an artist is knowing their backstory. 99% of the time if I didn't like an artist it's usually because I didn't know their backstory yet either through investigation or watching various video essays on them. So liking and getting into an artist really does depend on reference point, and how much the individual is willing to accept something different that they're not yet used to. I remember countless times when I was getting into certain artists having a feeling that I initially didn’t like what I was hearing because it was so different, but knowing deep down there was something there, something I was missing. So I’d often force myself to keep listening and digging until I understood and liked it. Nowadays I refer to this feeling as being on the same wavelength. Once that switch in your mind clicks, when it goes “Oh, now I get where this artist is coming when they make this type of music”, it’s much easier to listen to their music because you’re coming at it from an angle where you can understand and appreciate it. Of course it does take a lot of time commitment and understanding, but if you really like and are curious about the artist it shouldn't feel like work. Using this type of thinking when getting into artists has really allowed me to broaden my music taste over the past few years, and fully appreciate the importance of an artists work, as well as their certain place within music’s history and niches.
Agree. When I first started listening to rap (Biggie, Wayne, etc), I disliked many rap artists like Kendrick, DOOM, etc without ever listening to them, let alone the 'mumble' rappers as well. It was ignorance and unwillingness to accept. Then I realized it was pointless to hate on them & now I'm huge fans of Kdot, DOOM, Uzi, 21 Savage, etc
I agree with u, liking new artists and new music to u depends on reference points and getting used to these new sounds. And as u said, it takes a lot of commitment on your part as a listener to really start accepting this new taste let alone loving it, and tbh I suffer a lot with these points even though I'm aware of them, I find it really difficult to start liking genres that haven't appealed to me in the past even though I try all the time to get used to them.
7 months late to say I disagree. If you said saying an artist is bad I would understand, but you can understand plenty about an artists and still not like their music. Death grips is praised. I tried to listen to their music multiple times and just don't like it.
The worst take for me was the Invasion of Privacy one. The other ones were from every day people that may or may not have been trolling. Rolling Stone is a major music publication outlet that supposedly prides itself on keeping the integrity of music alive for their consumers. What made the take even worse was that it was a collective/consensus opinion, not just one writer with an extreme bias towards Cardi. A group of people that get paid to write about and critique music really came together and agreed that Invasion of Privacy was a better rap record than Illmatic (using influence as the criteria as if Illmatic isn't arguably the most influential record of all time). It could be due to baiting for engagement like Luc said, which is sad considering they should't have to succumb to click bait material given their already global reach.
The 2 worst rap takes I’ve heard (both within the last couple months) we’re 1. Denzel curry has not made anything good since 2015 and 2. Kendrick’s new album was just “trying to do the Kanye thing”

I completely agree with you but things like synths and strings can also be included in rock music, anything off of angles by the strokes and Tonight, Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins are the first examples I thought of.
I love rap and I also love rock since I grew up on it. But your comment leads me to believe you haven’t listened to much rock other than what’s in the mainstream to be forming an opinion like this. Saying you’ll always hear guitar, bass, and drums in rock is like saying you’ll always hear someone spitting over a beat in rap. That’s what differentiates the genres. Music definitely doesn’t need melody or harmony. Music doesn’t even need lyrics. But rhythm 🥁 is very subjective, and that depends on your taste in music.
12:30 not only that but even if a song doesn’t have melody and only has rhythm that is still music. Bens definition of music is outdated and idiotic, music is literally an art, the “definition” of art changes with time, maybe when music was created it needed rhythm and melody, but the music scene has changed infinitely since then.
The guy that said “Lil Wayne has forgettable Music” I think is confusing the Lil Part with another Lil. Lil Wayne is the #1 Rapper in my opinion, other can say he’s not which I can’t disagree it’s a matter of opinion, every has their right to it but man don’t got forgettable music sorry, he don’t!

the tom macdonald bro is even trying to hide his racism
Love your vids. Keep it up 🙌
12:30 not only that but even if a song doesn’t have melody and only has rhythm that is still music. Bens definition of music is outdated and idiotic, music is literally an art, the “definition” of art changes with time, maybe when music was created it needed rhythm and melody, but the music scene has changed infinitely since then.
“Tom McDonald has versatility”? Wtf bro yell raps on every single one of his songs. The dog whistle is crazy
Can you guys please rank Bruno Mars' albums? I haven't heard anybody talk about him for a while. Btw keep up the good work guys! You guys rock fr 🙏
Man yall and bobbalam are the two best people that talk about music in my opinion on youtube
naming life of pablo first is crazy
I question Kanye's sanity, but I can't question his musical talent. He objectively has one of the best discographies in all of music.
Well, my friend has the incredible take that is: Kendrick, ye and abel all suck. Ironically he also refuses to listen to any albums by them.
Because he thinks they suck
this my hot take that ppl consider it’s bad take: juice wrld and lil peep overrated. juice wrld is good at freestyles, but music is mid af and ppl be putting him with the goats. lil peep maybe not my genre
juice is definitely overrated
Best music podcast on UA-cam
Dude definitely was clout chasing with the Tom McDonald comment 😂😂
Ok hot take drake is knowhere near the top 30 rappers of all time and his last like 5 albums have all been duds
Agreed
His last good album was if you reading this its too late. I didn't enjoy anything after that.
@@Adam-yi7gg dark lane demo tape exists
@@rogue9230 oh i haven't listened to it. Thanks for reminding.
Form your own options drake doesn’t have a dud
I like when they don't fight 🤝💖
Besides Lil Wayne, the take about Lil rappers ain’t bad
Give Yachty his respect
Fax
Why, he’s mid at best and I don’t think that’s a hot take, he makes boring commercial rap over boring instrumentals
what do u think about his new album
@@Prodbyjah464 well now there’s there his new album
@@natsumemika8434 yeah my bad I made this before it released and it’s safe to say I liked it a lot, however one good album doesn’t make you Kendrick Lamar or some shit. If stays this consistent then he’d get my respect
"yeat is playboi carti's son" - fantano
Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely are his kids
Great video 👍🏻
We don’t claim Alijah as an E*lijah
6:15 logic is so overhated, like yea he’s pretty inconsistent, you have projects like Supermarket that was absolutely garbage, but he has a lot of good albums like No Pressure, Under Pressure, Vinyl Days, YSIV like how can the “worst rapper to ever grace the mic” have 4 amazing albums? Classic L take from budden, but tbh he’s probably trolling to stay relevant
Kanye is not good😂 with no explanation… funniest take
NFR da goats no cap
bro the translation 😭
@@zeller5095 💀💀💀💀💀
Bro wtf is that translation
Thank you youtube translation, very cool!
I hate that Kanye argument, so what I don’t like his music? I can say what I want ab anybody it’s my opinion?😂
That’s the Laval Rockets hat? If so what a gem
Extremely common Ben Shapiro L
Is that a Laval Rocket hat??!
Wait didnt lou like bobby Tarantino 3? Like you said that it might be album of the year in the review from last year.
Also Ben Shapiro: "Listening to Mozart. That some people listen to rap rather than Mozart is objective proof that some people are stupid."
I don't think one can get any more pretentious than that when it comes to music unless they've time traveled from the late 1700's. Also like people from the 1700's, he's pretty much showing he's racist without explicitly saying it.
I mean, I don't personally enjoy Kanye West's music but I wouldn't say it's bad.
