How to Claim Your Account on Apple Music for Artists

- If you have uploaded music to the Digital Streaming Platforms (like Spotify or Apple Music) you need to claim your account on those individual platforms so you can make edits to your artist page and access all of the analytics of the platform. This video shows you how.

Hey Matt, this was great. I do have a follow up question. Don't know if you know of this branch of request but I am currently trying to claim my artist profile as well, however my initial request has gotten rejected. The already release one song of mine that I featured on is the one I had linked for their verfication but hey said I wasn't the primary artist of that song.
Do you know what would be best as a next step? Should I upload a song where I AM a primary artist and let CD Baby create the itunes profile for me. Once that is out, then I can request access on that one..... what do you think?
Yes, you have to be the artist. Features don’t count for claiming an artist page. Release a single. It is the easiest route to claiming.

Hey, so once i upload my music to Cdbaby or tunecore , i should be able to search my artist Profile from those sites on Apple Music’s search bar? In other words, will Apple Music be able to find my music from other distributors even tho I’m searching for my music on Apples search bar?
Just recently changed my artist name and therefore I'm making a new account to drop my new stuff under. Ideally, I would like to already have my new tracks on the profile with my profile pic as soon as I drop them.
VS having to wait a week for them to review everything while my new track is on a profile with a blank pic for the first week
. Do you know a way to work around this?
I cant verify a profile or albums cuz I haven't dropped under my new name yet
You determine the release date. That would only happen if you opted to release the new music immediately. Upload all your new stuff through a distributor, put your release date out several weeks and claim the profile after it processes in about a week. Give yourself a bigger window.

I don’t think your phone matters as you can access this on any PC, not just a Mac. You login to Apple For Artists after you release at least a single. Should be fine.

Your artist profile on the streaming services will remain the same whatever distributor you use. Great question.

Thank you for watching! Congrats on your release. There is only one way and that is the second way. You cannot create an Apple Artist Page without music. When you distribute the release through Distrikid, each streaming service will create an artist page for you and then you can claim those pages after. If this is your first release ever, give yourself at least 2 months of time from upload to release to claim your page before your release date.

Sometimes releases go to the wrong profile. If you can prove they are both you, they normally combine the pages and give you control.

I’ve been tryna find myself in the search bar but it says no results…. 😔. I’m on an iCloud account do I need to be on a Gmail account in order to to create an apple? I can’t have an iCloud?
I have a lot of remixes i did for various artists. So there are a few unclaimed artist pages. I would like to claim one of them and combine all the others to that one artist page so that consumes can see the remixes i did. i tried to claim one artist page but to verify i need an album. but i don´t have a album. but like 10 remixes. not quite sure how that will work.
Me either, man. You can only claim a page you have music under as the artist or you are in control of (like a label). Remix’s dont cant be claimed unless you have the rights and you are the artist.

So, my distributor is distrokid, my first song is going to be released next month, so technically I only can edit my artist profile wen the song drops?
For an example, Spotify already give me acess to my profile so i can manage and be ready for the release.
Hi, no. If you set the release date further out the song uploads to Spotify before the release and you can adjust your profile. Make sure you set the release date like 2 months out to make sure it is processed way ahead of the release which gives you time to claim your profile and submit for Spotify playlist consideration. The first song is always going to take longer. After that it’s a couple weeks. Congratulations!!

What if your first song is only a feature? My vocals are featured on a song and it's saying I can't make an artist account yet unfortunately until I have a primary song.
A feature is not your song and therefore you are not the artist, unfortunately. Just curious, but why would you want an artist account if you are not the artist and don’t have your own songs?
I have come up with a problem with my distributer because it won't let me post the song unless I provide my Apple Music link. How can I give them the link if I do not have an artist apple account? And I already subscribed to that distributer, I paid $50 for the year. I would appreciate your help.
The problem is that Apple Music wont let you claim your account until you have music that has been distributed to their platform already. I suggest you call your distributor.

I tried to claim my artist page but its been so long apple music didn't response. Before I tried to claim my artist page there was only one page with my artist name but now I can see two. One empty artist page has been created. Really confused
If they are both your pages, ask Apple to join them. Should not be a problem. Apple Artist page, right?

I’ve never had to contact Apple but I imagine they would have great customer service, even at an Apple store they might be able to help. Not sure, though.

Claiming ones account takes a bit after your first release. I’d say a few weeks. If you don’t get access, contact Apple support.

Not sure I understand your question, Apple Music takes 2-4 weeks for music submissions to hit the stores. That what you mean?
I just uploaded a new song under a brand new artist name through distrokid, so Apple Music and Spotify have already created my artist profiles. Do I need to create a new Apple ID using my new artist email to claim my artist profile on Apple Music? Or should I use my existing Apple ID to login?
You could, but you can claim both with the same Apple ID. It just means you manage that artist’s account. You could have multiples.

Yes, Apple will not create a profile for an artist without music being released under that name first. You release trough distributor then claim the profile in Apple for Artists.

@@MercyFlowpr That is difficult. Why not ask your distributor? You do have to have at least one song out to claim your Apple for Artist page. You could release a "fake song" just something, then claim your Apple for Artist page, then delete the song via the distributor. Then when you release a "real album or song" you already have the Apple for Artist page claimed.
I need some help, As I am signed to different labels Apple music made two artist profiles for me (Idk why) and now some of my music is in some other profile and rest on the other profile

You have to sign in as the artist. It thinks you are requesting to manage the account.

Well, congratulations! That’s a big deal. It always takes a while to claim your Apple page after your first release. Once it is claimed, your next releases will be smooth. It just takes a while for them to sort out who you are.

It’s not a matter of applying but claiming what is yours. If you have music, your artist page belongs to you.

Your first release sometimes takes a while to appear on the platforms. Once the song is live on the streaming platforms, try to apply again for your artist page.

@@mattsteinfeld it was alot of back and forth but finally got it fixed, customer care told me to get ahold of apple music for artist customer care. They tried to fix it then it wouldnt work then they tried again and it allowed me access. Lil bit of work but worth it. At first it wouldnt let me access anything. Thanks for the quick reaponses

Go to Apple Music for Artists and create an account. You can't do that from CD Baby. Once your music is on the platforms, you can claim your account through Apple Music for Artists.

Can you request for access even without releasing the song
No, once a song is released, an artist account will be created. That is when you can claim it. Make sure to have plenty of time before your release on your first release so you can do all of these steps before the release day.
This was a big help in the process of connecting my account but i have one question. How long does it typically take for it to be accepted i did mine on 01/30/23 and it hasnt been accepted yet
For music to go live after submission? Sometimes it different. Your first release is usually the longest. Several days to two weeks, maybe.

I don’t remember, honestly, for me. I would plan 2-3 weeks to make sure you don’t release your first project before having access. It shouldn’t take longer than that. Better safe than sorry.

Hey! Thanks for watching. It really depends on if you have the same artist name by chance, or if it’s some type of fraudulent thing where it’s your name and they’re trying to benefit from it.

You’re going to have to get in touch with those platforms, or if you know the distributor they used (like CD Baby) that way they will remove it from all platforms they distributed to. This is a full album and even the album cover was taken without him knowing, this is what he was explaining to me.
By the way, Everton is my uncle and I am trying to sort out this issue for him and could not get any information on how help. These persons have been making money from his music for years now.
As it relates to the distributor we don't know the person or the body.
I’m sorry to hear that. Though, that person might own the rights to the music recordings. Either way, you need a lawyer who specializes in royalties. It might be expensive with no result. If the music is making more money than it will cost you to litigate, then it will be worth it. Good luck!

No, you don't have to pay to claim your Apple Music account, but you will need to upload your music to the streaming platforms via a distributor first (if you haven't already).

Good question. It is irrelevant what system you use. If you have music on Apple, you can claim your artist profile.

If you have music on Apple streaming platforms you sign up for Apple Music for Artists and you set up an account claiming your music.

No, a distributor is the company that actually puts the music on the digital platforms for the artist. You, in this case, are whatever your “talent” and you agree upon.
