Being alive in the '80s brought me here. Can still remember all the words 30 years later.
Same except I can't remember all of the words only some of them. The melody has stayed in my mind though.
It's getting hard for me to remember what I did five minutes ago but I can still remember this with crystal clarity.
These were the sweet old days when commercials were actually fun to watch.
Yeah commercials today are rip offs to attract Generation Alpha to brainwash them. Same thing for music, it used to be so good in the 80’s 90’s and 2000’s but Sexyy Red came along and it all went downhill from here
This just goes to show the degree of programming we were all subjected to as children...if after 30 years we could all remember the lyrics and sing along as if this little jingle was a super famous pop song, really says something.
The thing I want to ask is do today's young adults(ie - those a bit younger than me) remember lyrics like we do? We had the Alka Seltzer kid singing "Plop plop, Fizz fizz...oh what a relief...". And the two Campbell's kids looking a lot like Raggedy Ann and Andy singing about their lunch "Mmmm mmmm good....!!“, and the Good and Plenty's "Charlie says, love my....", etc, etc. So my point being do they have any jingles to remember like we had?? Even the non-singing commercials are remembered to this day!! "Where's the Beef??" and that loveable but picking eating kid named Mikey who apparently doesn't like ANYTHING...and of course a day w/o Orange Juice is like a day w/o sunshine - ask Anita Bryant. 😎
A lot of things seem to be designed it to make it sound like a TV theme song.
I think it is just because we heard it over, and over, and over, and over.
I was born in 1978. I love this classic commercial and the classic song! This classic commercial is clever, entertaining, and fun! Thank you for posting and sharing this! I really enjoy listening and watching this Big Red Chewing Gum commercial!
How the hell did I still remember the lyrics after all these years?
That's why it's called a jingle, because it jingles on in the mind.
This is one of the very best commercial songs, ever. I've always loved this song.
I remember my mom showing me commercials from her childhood and I remember thinking how old they looked. Now I'm looking up ads from my childhood and realizing that they look crazy dated as well now and omg I'm not ready to be old 😅😅🤣
They had an 80's power ballad for an advertisement! Those days will never come again and I sure miss them!!!
Wrigley's is brilliant. Juicy Fruit, Doublemint, and Big Red all had unforgettable commercial jingles.
This without a doubt is the best commercial jingle ever
Um... Arguable. Winterfresh hadn't come out yet. Winterfresh was the last great gum jingle to come out. And there's still Doublemint, which was the king and leader of the pack
now is the perfect time the season is just right you can play all day and dance into the might at beautiful mount airy lodge all you have to bring is your love of everything
Even the Stereo 31 jingle is awesome.
And the graphic with it, based on the font, the grittiness, and the year, probably came out of an Amiga Video Toaster; they were pretty popular with non-affil UHF's with pretensions. 🙂
This actually makes me very happy/sad.
The world has improved, yet fallen so far, in so many ways.
Back when commercials were actually good.
"You'll shoot your eye out, kid."
This was one of the masterpiece jingles composed by Peter Cofield
I miss 80s and 90s commercial. Even the early 00s had some amazing commercials.
Wow! I can’t believe how well I remember this commercial.
It was one of the most played and catch jingles, and the jingle lasted from around 1980 up until the mid-90s. This is the more familiar 1983 version of the jingle, with the original sounding slightly different and the 1992 version "younger" sounding.
Inside info here. The band parts were filmed in Phoenix Arizona. At Central high school. That is the Central high band. No Peter did not attend there. My friend Gary appears in the first clip. I believe he is one of the guys walking away from the pole. If I remember right there was a second version too. Filmed on the field. But he did say Peter was cool as heck. And hang out with everyone. Not the stuck up star type. Central high band did a lot of commercials during these years. I wonder who got that money?
I always loved this commercial. Why can't we have good, creative commercials any more?
Your fresh breath goes on and on.
and legend says today.. still fresh.. . the energizer bunny is chewing it while he goes on and on and on...
Wow!! I went from not remembering this song to singing along in 3 seconds!! Awww, the memories!
came for the big red goodness and it's from my local tv channel... :)
Just had this jingle randomly pop into my head after all these years.
OITNB brought me here...
The is probably the pinnacle of Jingle writing, the sincerity and enthusiasm and dynamic musical ideas all hit super hard, I still remember every word of this and sing it out loud 30 years later more often than I’m comfortable with lol. Which means it’s perfect advertising 🔥
Try hitting those upper notes at the end and you will have fun and a good laugh 😂
Thank you Peter Cofield for creating such great jingles, may you rest in peace.
Wow, wow, wow. I can't believe I still remember the words to this little jingle after not having heard it for 10 or so YEARS! Shows you what good marketing can do! ;-)
Popped in a stick of Big Red when this commercial came on in the 80s... the flavor is still going strong to this day.
Pretty sure the kid on the Tuba...was Ralphie from A Christmas Story, also was Messy Marvin from Hershey's Syrup commercials
For some reason this popped into my head out of the blue and I know every note. I must have been drilled into me when I was a kid. Makes me wonder what else in lurking around up there.
OMG This brings back so many memories of when I was groing up. Forever an 80's child.
i loved this commercial!! why don't they make them like this anymore?!
someone sang a part of this in a south park episode and the jingle from this commercial came flooding back to me!
One of my friends sent me a post on Facebook of commercial jingles; she said this was her favorite. I recognized most of the jingles, but I'd never heard this one before!
It's 4am, in the year 2020.
Why is this jingle stuck in my head?
Nice. I also had to see the original on UA-cam.
Kudos to both Big Red & Verizon!
Heard the notes of this tune on one of Sirius XM's 80s on 8 indents before they introduced a new song to be played, and I finally found where it came from! Turned out they were singing the Big Red gum tune with their own twist! Instead of ending it with "Longer with Big Red!", it ended with "With 80s on 8!"
Wow! Brings me back to my childhood. And I still remember the lyrics
I read the Big Red marketing campaign was launched in 1982 and this is one of their commercials from probably a few years later.
I remember this from when I was young... I looked it up because another song reminded me of it and I've had it stuck in my head for the last week or so. :P
Awsome jingle, timeless lyrics.
I LOVE this jingle. I completely forgot about it until Verizon. Theirs is pretty good too. Haha. This is even better than Wriggley's statement of the great mint jingle. I MISS THE EIGHTIES!
I believe this jingle was written by Peter Cofield, who also recorded a solo LP for the Coral label in '68 and was a member of a band called Queen Anne's Lace.
I was chewing this gum that what bought me here i remember the 700 commerical they had every yr till 1999 lol but still love it till this day
I miss when commercials had jingles
by the way.. i *never* saw that cool white stripe on a stick of big red. EVER.
I always wanted the little red and white striped gum but no one ever manufactured a gum that looked like that. they should though. I'd buy it.
They did! That was supposed to be Trident gum. It just looked like that to mask the actual brand.
Fredent's the one that took the stick out of gum, with Big Red! I've been saying this for past 25 years! Those old commercials freaking work dude!
that Stereo 31 jingle tho
Aww so cute… I miss this gum and this jingle
I lived for these commercials as a kid 🧒 I still know the full theme song and guess what the gum still live up to this type lol
Awesome catchy tune. I member this one and the doublemint gum one which i can't find. the one that goes double your flavor, double your fun, doublemint, doublemint gum. lol.
Santana sure loves her vintage media XD
The 80s: When a chewing gum ad sounded like an event! 👍
One of the greatest commercials songs of all time up there with Mentos...
What about the, chew the gum called Big Red commercial, with the bold clean bite, the big strong flavor that's bound to get you right. Big Red.
My favorite gum jingle.
Idk the song just popped into my head... Therefore I had to come back to watch it. wow takes me back lol hopefully they really did have good breath! 😨😂😂😂😂😂
That is classic!!! I just had to save this, it's too much! :-D
People rightfully praising the jingle. The key is the build-up. The song does resolve with the first line - "so kiss a little longer" - but after that, it just keeps building to the "BIG RED" finish, changing keys, higher registers. It's pretty ingenious.
Here from OITNB, looove this! '00s kid here though
Haha. I live in Peoria.
lol I KNEW I heard that new Verizon jingle somewhere before! I'm kinda glad I wasn't the only one.
THIS JUST POPPED IN MY HEAD OUT OF NOWHERE!!!😆😆😆
Big Red is not on sale in Australia & New Zealand on a continual basis. We have made formulation changes to the Big Red product made in the USA and will from time to time, release limited stocks to satisfy consumer demand.
Wtf why am I remembering this song and randomly singing it at 4 in the morning 😆😭
I loved this jingle and the song from Juicy Fruit
Hey it’s Peter Billingsley!
funny i was able to sing along with the entire song even after 20 years of not seeing this. :P
This brings back memories from my childhood...And in my childhood I use to think the said "0:18 Big Red freshest breath like glue it." and "0:30 Give your fresh long lasting freshness with The Grass."
I love these commercials. We need more commercials like this but today's society is "Too Cool" to make commercials like these anymore. When you die no one is going to remember "How Cool" you look but how well you enjoyed life and it shows through commercials like these.
Just watched a pharmaceutical commercial where two guys kissed. Reminded of the good ole where commercials didn't include same sex kissing.
This song has been in my head for 30 years lol
When i graduated high school in 1997 we call this the Official kissing gum. 😂
I still have a stick of big red in a small box that I found among my things. They don't make this gum anymore, I think. I keep it as memorabilia from yesteryear.
OITNB brought me here but I'll never forget these lyrics. That's how you KNOW a jingle writer did their job well! Lol
I've been singing this for a week. It was time to listen to the real thing.
World's Most Beautiful Drive.
Bill Houlihan had a more accurate forecast.
Ahhhh... nostalgia. Thanks!
I can't believe I remember this song
I am looking for an older Big Red commercial from the 70's. It was western theamed. Featured a Marlboro Manesque cowboy. The song went...., "Chew the gum called Big Red. With a bold, clean bit, and a big strong flavor thats bound to treat you right. BIG RED!" ..... something like that.
+mercoid Yes! I so reember that one. Me and my cousins used to goof on it. Good times. If I find, I'll link ya. Please do the same
I remember this like it we're yesterday. I haven't even thought of this til 2 years ago.
They should start showing these commercials again. Once upon a time a good jingle helped you remember a product. They could show the newly packaged product at the end.
Me too! They must have kept on using that song through the early 90s.
The Big Red commercial is in my top 10 best 80s things. I miss it.
Just sounded like I heard it yesterday. Amazing
This takes me back to when ads were good
I still remember as if this aired yesterday.
35 cents now, LOL, I miss these commercials , they were tasteful back then , now they have to show every body part to get you to buy,
For some reason this song popped in my head this morning.
80s throwbacks today always show moody cyan magenta, that's bull. THIS is the 80s, cheesy, cheerful, optimistic with the best jingles.
MY GOD! My fave film for years and years has been “get over it” with Kirsten Dunst and Mika Kunis and ohhh my hod they reference this song and it’s even more funny now I know what they’re supposed to be singing ! XD go watch it if you’ve not it’s a early 2000s classic
Amazing how I haven't seen this commercial in almost 30 years yet I sung along to it like I see it all the time lol
There's a movie called Get Over It and they sang this song during a audition:, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Foster and many others like Mila Kunis and Sisqo sang along!
SAME!
Same here!
I literally just sang it for my boyfriend, from memory. Then I had to look this up to make sure I had it right... Fucking verbatim. How? I can barely remember what I did tonight.
😊👏🏼
