  • Camp cooking OSG's famous cinnamon rolls then hiking a trail that unveils some brown trout that are staging to spawn in a small river coming out of a lake. I'm taking my fly rod to sight fish these big bown trout migrating into the creek.

    Bro, you got to let that fly sit a bit when it lands and then let it drift with slow strips here and there. Note that the ones you landed jumped the fly just after it hit the water. Slow natural movements are what drives them crazy. The wind helps impart action too and you can just drift the fly with good results. In the future, treat your dries and the first foot or two of the tippet with floatant to keep the fly buoyant. You can also get foam terrestrials like beetles and Chernobyl ants that will float high and stay dry if you coat them with Vaseline. When they're picky, try smaller flies and match the hatch. Cloudy and cold in the fall and I would bring size 16 Blue-Winged Olives and size 18 Mating Midges. Beautiful scenery, family, and cinnamon rolls. Thanks for taking us along.

    Subhann’Allah! Look how much she has grown, I remember the early years when it was just the wife, the dog, and you and your fishing content. Occasionally your father would be shown. But now there’s two children, a brain tumor scare and even some hunting adventures.

    Few tips for fly fishing. Try to get the action to be in your shoulder not your wrist and watch/time your back cast . Also when stripping a fly point the rod at the fly it will give it much better action.

    • @1OldBuzzard
      @1OldBuzzard 10 місяців тому +2

      I've noticed he has been rushing the back cast a bit. He needs to wait a second for the line to straighten out behind him more and move his aim point to above his target so it all falls down "softer".

    When you put the hot coals on top of the Dutch oven get ash from the fire and put it on top of the coals for an insulator... it works wonders! 🔥

  • @KimchiJerry
    @KimchiJerry 10 місяців тому +2

    LFG needs more trout videos! Different level of awesomeness 🔥 also you should use desiccant after using your flies and then re-apply floatant to maximize your chances of catching. And when you have a fish hooked put some pressure on it by turning your rod sideways. Puts more pressure therefore speeds up the process because they get tired quicker.

    Hey man, I love that you're starting to get excited by fly fishing! By the way, if you stop letting your fly line land before casting again every time and just keep it in the air you will avoid spooking a lot of fish. Letting the line hit the surface has the effect of tossing a rock at the fish. Good luck! I've been fly fishing for over a decade now. In my opinion a dry fly with a nymph beneath it would have been the go to there

    Next time you use the Dutch oven for baking, count your coals. You need twice the number of coals on the top that you have under it. Also, spread the bottom coals out, including around the outside perimeter of the oven. This will allow heat to penetrate the sides of the oven as well.

    The Brown trout is one of the most amazing Salmonidae in the family. I find that they fight better than any other trout or char and can fight as hard as a Coho Salmon.
    Fun facts: All Salmonidae originate in what is now British Columbia Canada. The Brown trout is a natural (not human bred) hybrid of the Atlantic salmon and arctic char which became the brown trout and is its own breed of Salmonidae now.

    Back in 1980 I spent the summer cooking in a restaurant on the shore of Lake Superior. Several mornings I was there for an early morning shift , before 5am. To get sausage and bacon ready for breakfast rush we would just about fill a 12" cast iron skillet almost full of uncooked bacon and another with sausage links. Set them to cook on medium heat on a commercial gas range and you end up boiling the meat in rendered pork fat. It is the fastest way to cook a bunch of bacon/sausage at once. You pull them out as they brown and stir them as they cook.

    One with your dutch oven, when you're hewting it up don't stick it straight in there, off to side so the pores of the iron heat up nice and even. Keep it natural and love it, no charcoal near it. Its iron, you're not making steel.
