“God doesn’t kill a bunch of people...”
Me glancing over at the Bible
One word : salt
Toast Party just first born sons
Christians be like: But, but, but, but..... Jesus. Reasoning human being: Read the bible. Do you still belive in harry potter?
Looking at Europe, well he doesn't stop them either...just punishes them.
@霊幻Arataka You think you should have the right to murder your children, whom you have made?
Tobias is a musical mastermind
they should be even bigger
Indeed brother
A macabre maestro if you will?
Yeah, he's the new Freddie Mercury
Lord Asperger no
I'm not a Christian, but I love your mom's thought process. "I don't want to nag, I'm not going to tell people they need to convert, I'll just live my Christian life as an example" .. That is wonderful. That's what it is all about. I really think Christianity would do better if there were more people with that attitude.
thats the best way to try and be one; live as example. I'll discuss my faith and reasons and opinions if asked; but theres a line between harrassment and sharing.
She needs to see Year Zero.
Maybe He Is.
Definitely Monstrance Clock.
Charles Deichman I always read monstrance clock as “monstrous cock”
Especially year zero...
Also Cirice.
He is awesome
I’d say for sure year zero. “Hail Satan”
“Welcome year zero”
Ghost is tongue-in-cheek "satanic." It's pure theatrics.
Came here to say this.
EXACTLY
They seem to share the same views as as the temple of satan rather than the church of satan
Well Tobias has always been in occult/satanic bands. So it's tongue in cheek but also legit.
James Streck and I love it.
*Introduces her to a satanic band*
*Chooses a pretty Christian song for what the bands worth* lol
That's what Satan would do, too. xD
Song is about the plague bro
Rats is making a mockery of the Catholic church for blaming human sin for the plague instead of it being caused by rats(actually the fleas on the rats).Better listen a little closer. It is any thing but christian
@@moniterlizard07 I said it was about the plague... you just confirmed it had something to do with the plague
@@kimjongdaddy6793 Yes it was about the church blaming the plague on God's anger towards humans
I'm a Christian and adore Ghost, I used to do a lot of theater so I appreciate thier theatrics and musical style, they have a Scooby-Doo meets Batman vibe. I picture Rats like a dark themed version of Singing In The Rain.
Like 10 years ago, I went in to a store that only sells metal stuff with my mom . clothes, cds, patches etc. they played music in that store, when we were there a cannibal corpse song was in the speakers. the girl at the register shut it off as soon as she saw my mom. my mom is an executive at a company so she is wearing a suit. my mom just said. "Hey! dont turn if off, this is some good stuff" i was chocked. for 10 years my mother would take/join me to concerts, dark tranquillity, bodom, amon amarth and so on. she headbangs more than i do.
Cool mom 😁 my mom used to go with me to a few shows and concerts but she just went for the shits and giggles and to make fun of us weirdos 😂 good times . Needless to say if she thought this was a phase jokes on her Lol I love my mom 😊
Lol my mum is pretty much the same. I always show her newer bands she might enjoy and she shows me the classics of when she grew up
Mbn, I have to hide my music from my mon
They got robbed of a Grammy for this album.... 🥺
BIG TIME!! I was so pissed....
@@emilyspector2728 For real.
twice!!! that fuckin chick was considered "rock"...more like pile of shit
Your right🤟🏻
@@sanchoddrums I know. So stupid.
Me personally, I don't think the song is about literal rats. It's more of a theme: Rats had spread the Black Plague, and did so rather quickly.
"rats" in this sense could refer to anything that spreads like wildfire - ideas, hatred and so on.
It seems more like an "open to interpretation by the listener" sort of song. You have the basic shell - you just need to fill it.
I read somewhere too that this song is also a response to a lawsuit the lead singer was going through at the time with former band mates. Rats is him talking in part about them gunning for his money and trying to tear down his vision for the band. 'They're still coming after you, there's nothing you can do... RATS!'
Tobias was interviewed on a radio morning show in Philadelphia and was asked directly what the song was about and his response was it's about rats
bingo. For me it signifies the rats of human kind and the shady shit that they do now.
Joran Moore TF also said it’s about social media as well.
@@jimmcginley2786 well duh

I really respect your mom for being able to put aside her personal beliefs a bit and listen to the song with an open mind. A lot of people can't do that, have the "you do you" mentality. Can't wait to see you do another reaction with your mom, they're great ! :D
There's a great channel where a pastor and his son react to metal songs and discuss it. They're open minded, too, and pretty cool to hear that side of things (what with me being atheist).

I love Ghost. . I love ghouls guitar battles. Live of course. Theatrics really interesting 🥰
I love ghost
Well Ghost *are* a satanic band, but not for real, they do make satanic music but is more of a halloweeny gimmick they have. Tobias (papa Emmeritus and Cardinal Copia) himself is an atheist, and the Nameless Ghouls are... Well, nameless ghouls
They just play with a religion they dont belive in. Like marvel.
No the hulk does not appere in Ragnarök(The end of the world according to old Norse religion)
I think they just want to expose religion in general - bit like the spaghetti monster religion to show how stupid it is when you think about it
yeah. They are antirreligious, dont satanic
Satanic means you do belive in christianity. But have a different take on it.
Pretty sure tobias is non a nonbeliver. And as I wrote. He is just haveing fun
Nothing about Ghost is Satanic ROFL
i got my mom to really enjoy this band lmao and both my parents are Southern Baptist
Do they know what the songs are about or you just let them chill and enjoy the music?
I'm pentecostal and i love them😁
I love them too. It's just music, and for me it's more like a movie villain thing than a real Satanist stuff, and even if they opinions REALLY are satanic i still don't care, cause they have the right to think the way they want, and say the message they want. In the end it's all about you if this insults you or not. Anyway, love them. :3
I got my mom to really enjoy Sound of Music, and she's a satanist!
Oh..
@@kkk2764 Hes, they are a "Theatrical" show band... The "band" is just Tobias Forge from Sweden, and the rest of them were just hired actors/musicians to perform and some did play and record his material. In their history only 2 other prior members ever wrote songs with him, the rest he is credited with, as far as I can tell... Recently he fired all or most of them and hired all new and they sued him, and lost! This band you see here is not the one that did meliora, Which Cirice was from, Not sure even IF those guys are in this new version with his new character "Cardinal Copia" ...."Papa Emeritus IV" was the last front man/ character and that was Tobias also! He changed just about everything. They are NOT Satanists! He was specifically asked in an interview if he was and his answer was "Do we believe in a hoofed horned being under the ground?" sort of thing, and they said NO, that was ridiculous, but he also believed religion is ridiculous too. As do I but that's just my own experience with it. They put on these masks and costumes and are an ACT.. a "Theatrical band" The music has dark and eerie lyrics but it's all a part of his creation of the name brand as well as the name of the band. It's all Tobias Forge, his ball of wax he is the head honcho... (& he is really a very nice person based on what I have seen and heard) As are the new Ghouls-They love and fiercely protect children, and try to do "good" in the real world, but they play those characters. That's about the sum of it all... I have liked this "band" for a long time, I have some vinyl! & it bothers me that they are mis understood as some evil Satanists that spread harm. He is not that guy. The Ghouls are all very polite and well spoken in interviews which are all over the tube and easy to find. It is interesting to actually hear all of them answer questions and talk to interviewers. Especially kids talking to them-how they treat them! The Ghouls I have heard speaking and Mr. Forge have earned my respect. It is a show-That's all. Just happens to be real good tunes.... :)
Your mom is an adorable, sweet lady, and I'm glad she openly dug the music, even if she differs from the tongue-in-cheek lyrics ideologically.
The point about Satan never stops coming after you is backwards. I never see Satanists preach in favor of Satan but I sure do run into a lot of Christians doing it...
Lucifer never stops coming for your soul by placing sinful temptations in front of you. Leading you down a path closer to him and further from God. “The line between good and evil is divided down the heart of man.” Religions or atheist I think that quote reigns true. Also the Bible does say he’s always trying to twist and manipulate the human soul.
You don't see Satanists preaching in favor of Satan because Satanists do not believe in Satan, nor God.
Satanists are simply activists who seek to expose the intolerance of Christianity and Christians. You know.. Like the song we just listened to. And this one too ua-cam.com/video/Q6UfqI5ovQI/v-deo.html

@@austin8819 even though god is supposed to be the all powerful unrivaled one
@@Thor.Jorgensen well certain branches of satanism do believe in a literal satan, but the majority simply see him as a symbol for rebellion against tyranny and the status quo, having the ability to stand for what you believe in
@@ravenhopkins347 No branches of satanism believe in a literal satan. What you are referring to is Luciferianism.
But true enough some branches of Satanism do use Satan as symbolism for individuality, seeker of knowledge, and some times as a rebel against authority, as he is described in the Bible.
I mean if you read the bible, only adjectives suggest that Satan is evil. His actions, however, are never more evil than that of God. Compared to God based on Satan's actions in the bible, one may think him more of a saint in comparison to God. Seeking to free humanity from the shackles of eternal mind-control.
And remember, the bible does not say that Satan created Hell, or even that he rules Hell. It was God who created Hell to punish Satan and the sinning humans.
The bass from this band is amazing, one of the best mixes I've ever heard. Can always hear it and the tone is so powerful. Such a good band
That snare drum tho!!!
They're not satanic. It's just an act, if you wanna play along. They're basically actors, not Satanists. It's like a theatre play, if you forget that they're just playing a character and pretend that they're Satanists it becomes much more interesting and immersive.
Tobias Forge actually does consider himself a Satanist. Probably not theistic, but still. This interview covers it well: www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/brick-brick/201812/the-whispering-walls-tobias-forge
They are still going to hell
@@charlesm8482 If hell exists, then sure. Emphasis on "if"
@@bossman1086 That's a cool interview. Thanks. Well, non theistic satanism is very similar to atheism and it's much much different than theistic satanism, so I still wouldn't call them satanistic.

Many of the songs on the album Prequelle are about the lawsuit, including this one. The "filthy rodents" are the plaintiffs. I'm not going to name names; you can find all of that in Swedish court documents on Google. Also, for 2015, won the Grammy for best metal performance for "Cirice". I'm glad you both enjoy the song. The most satanic- Year Zero
The least satanic- Life Eternal

I'm working up to your newest clips, and I have to say. I think I'm in love with your mom.
I hope she's in more videos.
The song does indeed use the plague as a metaphor for religion. Although it does not point to any given religion, the use of a singular 'God' indicates that it is more directed at Christian/Catholic beliefs. Alex is right on his reading, but has highlighted the wrong lyrics (although they do form a greater portrayal of it). Focus more on the opening lyrics:
"In times of turmoil, in times like these. Beliefs contagious, spreading disease. This wretched mischief is now coursing through your souls. Never to let go, never to let go. The Rats."
Directly referring to religion as a plague that poisons minds, perpetuated and spread by 'Rats', i.e. missionaries, priests or people who seek to convert others to their religion. Further exasperated by civil unrest, making it easier for a given religion to spread through a nation... Like a plague through a impoverished town.
Excellent explanation. Lyrical correction: "COURSING through your soul". But you totally hit the nail on the head.
Well put!
@@dark-eternalknight3379 Thank you!

Bible was an amazing song.
She will thump the bible not getting the point of the song.
Bible isn't actually a Ghost song. It's just one they cover from an 80's Swedish band called Imperiet.
It's all an act, Ghost has even had religious members, and just in case you didn't know Black Sabbath's bassist is religious.
so is Tony Iommi who has wrote choral works for Birmingham Cathederal (You can hear one here: ua-cam.com/video/5r-9-5T93N8/v-deo.html), Ozzy is practicing member of the Church of England and prayed before each show and I cant speak for Bill Ward individualy

You definitely got the Bubonic Plague references in the song, but I believe Tobias has said that the song also refers to the pervasive beliefs people get from social media and how misinformation can spread like the plague.
Ahh, dude. You’re mom is super dope. Agree with her ways of living with her beliefs or not, she’s a cool chick. Very cool. Thumbs up, mom!!
It's amazing how Christians always have an explanation for the "acts of God" that make no sense to the non-Christian people. And then there's always the "God works in mysterious ways" joker card.
False !!
😂😂😂🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 nice hellacopters logo btw
Not all the time.
well put
Humans trying to explain the acts and thoughts of God is "pointless", we're not the same beings, not on the same level of existence, we can't think as he does, nor see him because he wouldn't be God then
Ghost’s gimmick is that they’re modeled after the Catholic Church but worship satan instead of the Holy Trinity. Or at least that’s what Wikipedia says
As a Catholic I do understand the reservations about Ghost, I myself like the song Year One but the blatant references to satan make me not want to like it. But even with everything I still like the band and the masks are awesome. I’m actually going to be seeing them live this September on Friday the 13th
From what I‘ve seen, the song is about the plague but the religious references are about the mentality at the time: preachers saying the church would save them (the disease spread faster in confined spaces) and that the plague was a punishment from God for everyone’s sinning ways
Well you could debate that a church which tortured people, burned them alive, started wars and rapes children doesnt sound much like a christian church.
My mom is a devout Christian, she introduced me to Ozzy and White Zombie when I was a child. She even took me to my first metal concert, Ozzfest 99. 🤘🏻
I'm seeing them live tonight and I'm pumped

Live at Wacken, with Floor Jansen!
Your mom is the most accepting, level-headed religious person I've seen! I'm pretty sure if I tried to get the religious members of my family to listen to Ghost, they would smack me repeatedly in the head with crosses. You guys are both awesome! :)
Has she listened to "from the pinnacle to the pit" yet?
@alex_hefner i love your reaction videos dude. I love your mom's reactions, plus the fact that she may not agree with the message but still likes the music/sound. Keep on keepin on alex and to quote you dude, "Dont let anyone throw shade at you."

Religious folks like your mom need to exist more and the preachy ones give folks like your mom a bad rap. She's tolerant and accepting and to me, that's fundamental for everything else. It's funny that Alex mentioned Thriller, because I've been saying Cardinal Copia looks like Vincent Price, who (for the unenlightened) performed the monologue at the end of Thriller and who portrayed many darkly entrancing yet eloquent madmen.
Matthew McClain yep, and the laugh at the end of Dance Macabre is a pretty obvious reference to the laugh Vincent Price gives at the end of Thriller as well.
I'm not particularly a fan of Ghost but having said that, I love the key the song is played in. The song & the guitars especially remind me of early Queensryche 🔥

I have not been listening to Ghost super recently.
I almost forgot how good they really are.
Almost.
Glad you brought them back up on my radar.
I love their music, and love the lyrics, but really, just everything about them is cool.
I like that they choose to hide their identities with the masks and the make-up.
The cool thing about the masks, I've noticed, at least for me?
I don't focus on the various band members as much and just really enjoy their music.
And Alex? I kinda disagree with you just a little on one point:
I've heard a few of Ghost's songs, including "Cirice," and I thought "Rats" was pretty darn catchy myself.
It's been awhile so, maybe my perspective is slightly out of focus.
That's one of those things about Ghost that I find so intriguing:
That, musically, a song can be THAT catchy, with rats as the lyric subject matter.
It's a somewhat unique juxtaposition, really.
You wouldn't think it would be catchy, with that title, and then it is.☺
And their music just gets under your skin, or it does for me, anyway.
I'm glad you had the mom unit with you today.
She is always interesting to watch.☺
Just saw ghost at Twickenham in London supporting Metallica, absolutely amazing, would definitely watch them again( also check out bokassa, really good too)
Harry Garraghan spot on!!! Me too also
I love the discussion you and your mom had. Very mature back and forth on both sides. I'm not religious or Satanist or whatever, but I love this band and yes anything that sparks a good conversation that makes you think is good. Your Mom seems like the right kind of Christian and she ROCKS for that and you ROCK for being able to communicate these thoughts of yours in a way that isn't insulting but makes people think. You have to understand that Ghost is a kind of “parody satanic” band, most of the members are atheist or non-religuous
One subject of the song is social media and that you can’t escape the hate. In the past you would be save of bullies at home but now „they are still coming after you and their is nothing you can do“
my 19 year old son turned me onto this band about a year ago....just seen them live for the first time on Friday oct 11'th …..best live show I've ever seen....just made me like them that much more!! \m/
I dont believe they're satanists, I think they're making fun of the back and forth that christianity has with itself sometimes
Jason Richardson: Hos Down. It's instrumental and will blow your mind!
I recommend the Meinl cymbals video. It's live in studio
I'm a newly acquired Ghost fan."Rats" is one of my favorite songs. The video is awesome too! Yes this song's interpretation is centered around the plague. Take out the interpretation of the plague for a moment, and put in the Covid19. People are constantly getting sick from the virus, and people are dying from it.
The appeal of ghost is that the music is excellent for the uninitiated, and if you dive deeper it is thought provoking. Your mom seems very open minded and can appreciate and interpret the message, which is the kind of people bands like ghost are directing their music towards.
It isnt that the members of ghost are promoting satanism (who cares if they are) but they are using the theme to add depth to their music.

Ghost is satire at the core. Sacrilegious satire, but satire nonetheless.

@Marko L Free will with an all-knowing god? Isn't that kind of an oxymoron?
Rogred It is. Christopher Hitchens calls this the “totalitarian” aspect of religions, the idea that one all-seeing and all-knowing entity gets to know your every action and thought - thoughtcrime - as seen in 1984 by George Orwell.
@Marko L But it was not god, it was Lucifer, Behemoth, Satan or Leviathan with an apple...
Your mom has a solid grounding on good theology. I have a doctorate in divinity and am very conservative in beliefs and am a classical guitarist.
This song is actually about bullying and "rats" is used as an analogy or metaphor in the sense that rats are every where regardless of where people live, same in this day and age bullying is everywhere. Schools, workplace, cyber bullying etc...

Introduction to Ghost is best with "He Is" :D
correct about his dancing style: foot loose and thriller. that is great. Your mom is a doll. Awesome to see.
Now I don't have listened to that much Ghost, but from what I feel,.. the lyrics and satanic tones are ironic and I feel like your mom here that the rats are comming from Satan and most of the other songs can be taken as a warning to stay true to your god and keep Satan out...
However that is just my limited experience from listening to a handfull of songs and I am hardly well enough educated to say if this is correct or not.
I thought the rats are christians.
I don't think people realize what Satanism really is about...🤔
Ms Inked for most that is correct...
It really depends on what kind of satanism It is
I love ghost 👻 Tobias forge is a musical genius . It's pure theatrical brilliance he brings his songs to life.
the way i understood it the 'rats' were the ex nameless ghouls that were suing tobias forge for what they thought were unpaid royalties. they lost their case and he ended up counter suing and won, he wrote rats as a third person perspective of people trying to always take what someone has earned. the rest of the album has lyrics that allude to this as well.
I admit to NOT liking this band when first hearing them...but weirdly enough a few months would pass by, and they've grown on me! I bet their insane to see in-person. :)

Dope as usual. Never disappointed. Freak what others say. Your mom, wish she was my mom too. Have a dope ass day my dude.
Props to your mom, she lives her life right. Not forcing her beliefs down people's throat, just living an example. I have nothing against religion, just against pushy people telling me how to live. So good for her.
